Last weekend THIRD DAY’s frontman Mac Powell sang the national anthem live before more than 150,000 race fans at the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Also the band, which includes guitarists Mark Lee and Brad Avery, drummer David Carr, and bassist Tai Anderson performed a 40-minute set prior to the race that was carried nationally to millions of viewers on the NBC TV network. According to Powell, “This has been an exciting day! To sing at the fastest track in NASCAR – which just happens to be in our hometown of Atlanta – and meet the drivers we love to watch in the NEXTEL Cup Series has certainly been a highlight of 2004!” During Third Day’s 11-year career, the band has accumulated 21 Dove Awards, 21 No. 1 radio singles, a GRAMMY Award, and has sold over four million albums. <><
SOUNDBYTES:
CASTING CROWNS’ latest DVD/CD project, Live From Atlanta, was just certified Platinum (one million copies sold) by the RIAA. The project features live performances and in-depth interviews with band members. <>< MERCYME’s frontman Bart Millard and wife Shannon are new parents. Daughter Gracie Ryan Millard was born last Thursday (Nov. 4th.). weighing in at 5 lbs 11 oz. <>< Also TOBYMAC and his wife Amanda gave birth to baby number four last Tuesday (Nov. 2nd.) Baby Leo McKeon arrived five weeks early, but is a healthy 5 lbs. 6 oz. <>< And PLUMB (aka Tiffany Arbuckle Lee) has announced on her website (Plumbinfo.com) that she is expecting…"I’m still happy as a pig to be pregnant! (So far) I’ve (only) gained a whopping 6 ¾ lbs. at 18 weeks. <>< AMY GRANT is planning a second hymns album, following-up 2002's Legacy…Hymns and Faith." In an interview with the Richmond Times Dispatch, Grant says the album should be released in March. The mp3 of “Gloria," from Colman’s first solo project due out in early spring ’05, can be downloaded along with the song’s lyrics and sheet music. <>< RUSS LEE is in Iraq for 11 days to visit with troops stationed with the 101st. Airborne Division from Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The former lead singer of NEWSONG is scheduled to perform concerts in Balad, Mosul and Baghdad. <>< LIFEHOUSE has finally found a replacement for departed bassist Sergio Andrade, who left the band earlier this year. Bryce Soderberg joined the band several weeks ago, which is set to release a new album in early February ’05. <>< Irish rockers U2 will guest on Saturday Night Live on November 20th. BONO and the band will release their new CD, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, on Nov. 23rd. <><
