In some good news this week, The Dove Awards airs tonight; REBECCA ST. JAMES on NBC; STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN on Fox; TOBY MAC on the newsstands; NEWSBOYS offers free download; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; Top 10 Ways to Celebrate New Year's Eve in the Middle East; and much more!
IN THE NEWS: The 35th Annual Gospel Music Association Awards (formerly called the Dove Awards) is scheduled to air on the PAX TV network tonight (Monday, Dec. 27) from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM CST. “Christian music’s biggest night of the year” was originally set to air on UPN-TV last spring but was postponed for some unnamed reason. Hosts YOLANDA ADAMS and NFL legend Deion Sanders will be joined by “an all-star line-up of Christian and gospel music artists and some of their biggest fans” including AMY GRANT, CASTING CROWNS, JARS OF CLAY, MERCYME, MICHAEL W. SMITH, NEWSBOYS, PILLAR, SWITCHFOOT, THIRD DAY, U2’s Bono, Destiny's Child’s Michelle Williams, actor Stephen Baldwin, Tennessee Titan Derrick Mason, and former American Idol finalist R.J. Helton. <><
REBECCA ST. JAMES recently narrated a made-for-TV documentary, The Changing Face of Worship, which looks at “Christianity's struggle to attract the MTV generation and new inventive ways the church is reaching out to nonbelievers”. The hour-long special is being broadcast in select NBC-TV markets throughout the holiday season. Also the Aussie-born St. James will enter the studio in February to record her first all-new studio album in almost four years. <><
SOUNDBYTES: NEWSBOYS fans can download the band’s song “Isaiah” at iTunes.com. The free download is only available for customers who have purchased the band's latest Modern Worship album, Devotion. <>< TOBY MAC is featured in a Dec. 28th USA Today article on “how artists in certain states and their musical styles reflect that state's culture”. Also McKeon’s (real name) latest project, Welcome to DiverseCity, has been ranked in several “Best of 2004” top 10 lists, including NewReleaseTuesday.com and CBN.com. <>< The weekly Fox News Magazine seen on Sunday nights on the Fox News Channel will feature an interview with STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN in January. For the exact airdate, check with foxnews.com. <><
