GOGOL BORDELLO SIGNS WITH SIDEONEDUMMY RECORDS AND RELEASES NEW ALBUM "GYPSY PUNKS: UNDERDOG WORLD STRIKE" ON AUG. 9
GOGOL BORDELLO TO PERFORM ON THE VANS WARPED TOUR '05 IN JULY
New York rebels Gogol Bordello are set to release their forthcoming album
"Gypsy Punks" on SideOneDummy Records on Aug. 9. Gogol Bordello caught the
eye of Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman at The Voodoo Festival in New Orleans
last fall who brought them over to SideOneDummy Records and picked them up
for eleven dates in July on the Vans Warped Tour '05.
"We are very excited to be apart of the unique vision that is Gogol
Bordello," said Bill Armstrong, Co-owner of SideOneDummy Records. "With a
mind bending live show, incredible heart and energy, Gogol does what very
few bands have ever been able to do; make you forget you are watching a
band. With a vodka bottle in hand, they literally turn the venue into a
festival and dare you to celebrate life. Don't believe me? Then you haven't
seen them...yet."
Gogol Bordello's third full-length album "GYPSY PUNKS: Underdog World
Strike," was produced by Steve Albini (Nirvana, Jimmy Page/Robert Plant) in
glorious analogue sound. "GYPSY PUNKS" is an expansive 15-track salvo that
expands the band's fusion of Gypsy punk and Slavic stomp with a touch of
metal and dub-wise sound effects that pay tribute to the classic sounds of
Jamaica. Singer/lyricist visionary Eugene Hutz and the rest of the Gogol
collective have attained a new level of musical and lyrical intensity in
their continuing cultural crusade to build a bridge between Gypsy music,
rock'n'roll and other styles of rebel music.
Gogol Bordello will bring their cathartic and debauched gypsy punk rock show
to this year's 2005 Vans Warped Tour (select dates in July).
Gogol Bordello's genre bursting music and hypnotic live shows have been
described as "legendary" by many including The New Yorker, Interview
Magazine and The Village Voice. This eight-piece ensemble runs Gypsy
rhythms through a punk-rock blender resulting in music that's on the
threshold of contemporary global culture.
