Pretty amazing sound, non? That mic, reportedly, was only used for the
monitors. Shure Beta 98

that. You couldn't really have a monitor feed from the condensers at the
volume they needed.
The condenser in front of him is the source of the great sound. The
worst sound on that DVD is Angelo's. He uses a Big Tone transducer. The
best sound I have heard other than a condenser mic is a Schertler DYN ->
Sansamp Acoustic DI -> AER amp. It also works great on flatops,
archtops, and mandolins. The Schertler is a top mounted condenser mic
that looks like the old Barcus transducers.
