Hi!
A friend of mine and I play gypsy guitar together for few months. We
recorded some titles (mp3 and 1 video 150MB) you can download on our
website :
http://www.ruedes2amis.com
For those who don't know the french word for download is
telechargement. So you can click on the link telechargement.
Thanks for downloading and hearing. It would be great to know what you
think about. Don't hesitate to criticize us.
Bye!!
There is à book from a french guitarist (Stephane Wrembel) who studied gypsy style in Paris with Django's folk. The book is rich :
-Exemples you can learn and use on several chords progression -Explanations on improvisation and chords building -scales and arpegios used in gypsy style
the title is gypsy jazz guitar, stephane Wrembel. It's a good book for beginners and "not beginners too!!
Enjoy yourself playing! Hello from France

Michael's book is an excellent introduction to the picking style, perhaps the best. However, the question seems to be more about comping, i.e., playing gypsy rhythm. John Jorgenson's "Intro To Gypsy Jazz Guitar" is a good intro to the comping style, and it includes a good
DVD (although I don't know if North American Zone 1 DVDs will play in Argentina).
Michael Horowitz will soon be releasing a new book on gypsy rhythm (perhaps a multi-volume book). Watch the www.djangobooks.com Web site for news.

Hello all,
For those of you who don't know of us, we're Modjango, a gypsy Jazz
guitar duo based in Birkenhead, Merseyside, UK.
Here's a couple of tracks for you.......they're due to go on the
next album, latcho drom, released sometime this year (trying to work
as quickly as possible!).
Here's the link: www.flybywireless.com/modjango.htm
Our usual website (djangoreinhardt.net)is down, due to the host
going bust (grrrrr), but we're working on this at the moment.
There's a couple of tracks on the fly by wireless link, Rodrigo's
concerto D'Aranjuez, and Bossa Dorado. I've been recording these for
the last few days, and I'll post more as and when. I actually did
the rhythm on Aranjuez using a kitchen pan, two spoons, and a large
wooden spoon :)
It starts like the original, classical version, but becomes entirely
original. Again, Bossa Dorado follows a similar pattern.
I was encouraged to post these by a couple of mates of mine, who are
regular forum goers, and in the end I buckled and have done so :) I
just hope they still buy the CD lol :)
For those of you who already know of us, and have followed us over
the last few years, many thanks for your ongoing support; it's
greatly appreciated. Hope to see you all soon!
Cheers all,
Paul
Learning how to play guitar is like learning how to speak a language.
The more you listen to, imitate and play along with professionals, the
better you'll get.
Studies show that 97% of all guitarists discover that learning how to
play guitar isn't as easy as they thought it would be. And if you keep
using the same old time-wasting strategies, drills and boring exercises
that other people use, you're even worse off!

I have the same Gitane DG-255 model and went through the same question. This is what I do and I highly recommend it for your consideration.
A Radio Shack clip-on electret mic (part #33-3013) goes for about $26. Nice flat response - the specs rival similar mics that sell for 4-5 times more. The mic has a 1/8" plug so you'll also need a shielded extension cord (#42-2560) that ends with a 1/4" plug. That's another $7. Go to a crafts store and buy a small clear suction cup that's used to affix things to windows. They're about 25 cents. Affix the suction cup directly on the upper bout out of harm's way. Clip the mic to the suction cup, aim it back toward the bridge and plug it in. It's that's simple. You'll be amazed.
I've used this setup with no preamp and minimum EQ, although a preamp wouldn't hurt. I've used the mic on several venues both indoors and outdoors and it works just fine. Our violinist (and a flutist friend) uses the exact same system - no problems.
Worst case scenario - you're out about $33.25, plus tax.
Best case scenario - well, you get the picture...
good luck,
Steve

Hi everyone,
So . . . I am playing a bit this week, putting myself
in heavy competition (birdland, dennis being on the
east cost of the us, stephane, and all that!) and
annoucing my gigs- please come out if you are in the
area, and play a tune or two with us- its free and
fun!
Hi everyone,
We are playing This Sunday and next Saturday at Jam
For Bread Cafe; a cafe located at the corner of
Pacific and henry streets in Brooklyn, NY. Its a great
cafe, with pastries, coffee, sandwiches ice cream
salads, and all of that. The gig on Sunday is from
12-4 with the last part being a jam session for those
wanting to try some django licks out.
The band is going to be great; including these guys:
Tom Landman- Lead Guitar
Piruz Partow- Bass
and me Ben Wood - Rhythm Guitar.
And some great guests later on in the day.
The Saturday Group adds a few features, a great
fiddler, Monica Smith, and the fantastic jazz singer,
my wife! Eve Seltzer (singing . . .). And from Canada,
Duane Andrews. This one is at night, starting at 8pm,
and going to 10- so you can still make the late gig at
birdland for those folks in town for that- this way,
you even get to play some django inspired music.
the exact dates are November 6th and 12th.
come out and play or Listen . . . It'll be fun.
Thanks
and see you soon,
Ben
