A brief 'report' of last night's concert from a friend:
I am so glad I went last night. My only regret: you weren't there.
When I heard your quick bio of the tar player I was expecting a
mature older lady who has spent years playing the tar. Quite on the
contrary, she was a very sheytoon looking, playful twenty some year
old with an unbelievable panje, doing a set fit for the master
himself with the difficulty level of 10, on the scale of 1 to 5. She
started off the evening solo, doing a piece somewhere in homayun or
esfahan, please excuse my ignorance, and when she was done with
quite a heroic ending, the audience couldn't help but to jump in joy
like crazy people.
And then she walked off the stage and immidiately our Arash appeared
to play HIS solo and I thought shoot!!! How was he going to fill
shoes that big. My heart was thumping. He took a few moments to
orient himself, then he started with a very slow and soft tapping
which continually evolved. He ended up doing a very impressive
technical Pejman-laced jam that was very exciting to witness (to
everyone's relief, including mine.) The audience again went crazy.
(It of course wasn't unhelpful that the entire first four rows, were
Arash's family and friends ;)
It was amazing to see how the movements of the hands of both of these
players resemble the way their masters' hands move on their
instruments. They play their respective instruments with the same
approach as their masters.
