I'm counting on you and your continued support for an upcoming concert on Oct. 24, 2009 at the Concordia University in Irvine.
I'm organizing and producing this concert to commemorate Ghamarolmoloke Vaziri, a Lion-Heart woman who dared to sing on the stage almost 100 years ago despite of many cultural and religious obstacles, as well as the recent freedom-seeking movement in Iran, .
An ensemble of elite musicians have been collaborating to create an unforgettable night for you and I'm in need of your support. We are flying in two great musicians from the Northern California for this concert and my dear friend, Mahdi Kolahdooz, who is the master mind behind the entire project will be polishing our souls with his mesmerizing voice...
I'll be sending out the flyer along with more detailed information.
Once again, I'm really in need of your kind considerations and support.

Persian Poetry of Rebellion Hits a Classical Note
Ossyan (rebellion): Classical Persian music by Namd Ensemble breathes new life
into the works of rebel Iranian poets, Forough Farrokhzad and Siavosh Kasraei.
www.namaadensemble.com
"Namd Ensemble connects contemporary audiences to classical Persian music. It
was formed by five outstanding musicians who create original compositions based
on both the modern and classical poetry of Iran . Passionate and haunting
melodies that are performed Kourosh Taghavi on the Setar, and Saeed Kamjoo on
the Kamanche and Queychak, poetically fuse with percussions by Mehrdad Arabi and
Afshin Mehrassa colorfully creating the needed space in which the beautiful
voice of Khosro Ansari tells the stories of our times."
Thank you very much for sending these very beautiful clips of Ostad Zarif. Do you know any way of saving the stream in youtube to a file? Please let me know.

"Epiphanys live show has a wild and haunting energy. The rhythms are mesmerizing and Bets 4 octave voice is stunning." ~ PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER
"Based in Armenia and New York, Composer/Pianist John Hodian and Singer/Songwriter Bet Williams led an ensemble of piano, voice, percussion and cello in a performance of high and soulful energy." ~ NEW YORK POST
"Williams has been rightly compared to Loreena McKinnitt and Tori Amos for both the sheer beauty of her instrument and the passion with which she sings." ~ SING OUT! MAGAZINE
"With the improv piano of Emmy Award-winning film score composer, John Hodian... the work of this duo is a musical marriage that blends traces of Clannad's mystic airs, Tori Amos' lovliest emanations and, inexplicably there's even a bit of Kate Bush..." ~ ALMANAC
For the first time in six years, Bet Williams and John Hodian will bring
the Epiphany Project to U.S. stages, including a show at AcousticMusicSanDie go. The band will perform music from their latest CD, Hin Dagh, a work rooted in ancient and sacred texts, set to vibrant and exciting new music. Hin Dagh breaks ground in its origins and sound, as well as in its unique packaging, which presents the CD in a hardbound book format, including the ancient text, poetry and prayers that inspired the lyrics, along with artistic insights and illustrative art.
Bet Williams and John Hodian have been performing and recording as Epiphany Project since 1992, creating music that the Washington Post calls "a unique hybrid of world music, art song, Americana and avant- garde folk; utterly uncategorizeable, but always transcendently beautiful." Hin Dagh takes that music to a new level, with a sound that seems to reach through time, drawing on the beauty of ancient languages, cultures
and philosophies, to create musical compositions that are at once timeless, primitive, worldly and contemporary.
Hin Dagh was conceived as Williams and Hodian were traveling through the ruggedly primitive and beautiful countryside of the Caucuses and Armenia, Johns ancestral homeland. While exploring many of the rites and rituals of the areas dying cultures, they discovered intriguing ancient sacred texts from some of the worlds mystical dead languages, including Aramaic, Sanskrit, Avestan and Ancient Welsh, as well as ancient and not-so- ancient poetry. They began working and recording with a variety of local master musicians playing santur, kamancha, duduk, zorna and many forms of hand percussion. The CD was developed over a period of one year, as the musicians experimented and improvised. Many of the initial raw instrumental performances and vocals become the final work presented on
the CD.
A fearless vocalist, Bet Williams stunning four-octave- range voice has mesmerized audiences across America and Europe with what Sing Out magazine calls "the sheer beauty of her instrument and the passion with which she sings."
John Hodians free-flowing piano playing has been called "impassioned and evocative" by the Philadelphia Inquirer and "pure genius" by Applause magazine. An intense performer and Emmy Award winning composer, Hodians intricate rhythms and haunting melodies reflect his Armenian heritage and his formal classical training, as well as years as a jazz improviser.
Over the past six years, the pair have consistently toured Europe with their ensemble Epiphany Project, but have not performed in the United States in that time. Their U.S. shows will be a unique opportunity to hear the ensemble in its new configuration. For music previews, visit www.booking.
