Subject: Good news!
Hello Harmonet,
Just wanted to let you all know that things are going much better with
my eye. I've received many requests to keep people updated, so thanks
for the bandwidth...
I've had a little miracle happen in my life. Yesterday I went in for
rather serious and involved eye surgery and when the doctor went in to
fix it all, there was really nothing left to fix. There was no
detached retina, no need for a vitrectomy, nothing. He cleaned up
some lingering blood, some remaining scar tissue from the previous
accident and surgery, and sent me on my merry way to recovery. Today,
they took the bandages off my eye and...I CAN SEE... counting fingers
up to 6 feet away. I have peripheral vision and it's getting better
and better. (The only guy who was disappointed was the med student
from Iowa who came to see the surgery!)
Initially, the surgery was going to save the eye itself from dying, in
the end, it restored most of my vision! While I won't likely be able
to read with that eye, my doctors are confident I will be able to use
it to a much higher degree. It literally went from, "you won't be
able to see out of your eye again" to "you're probably going to be
just fine" in a matter of minutes... I still haven't come to grips
with this amazing reality yet!!

Anyhow, I am forever grateful for the outpouring of support that you
all have shown for me. I will not forget the many cards, e-mails,
teddy bears, phone calls, text messages and prayers. It really is,
great to be a barbershopper. Thank you, from the very bottom of my
heart! In the words of my doctor "I guess prayer really does work!"
Looking forward to seeing you all in Nashville...
All the best,
