OK, Barbershoppers, here it is: Song #1 in my new
series of Two Dollar original songs/arrangements.

Many years ago, about 1982, I wrote a tag, "Annie's
Gone Away", for no special reason, that many
barershoppers have sung. It's even been called one of
the most enjoyable tags ever written. Well - I don't
know about that - but it is fun to sing. Many years
later, I decided this tag needed a song. It's titled
simply, "Annie", and tells the story of the fellow
who's fallen for Annie, and she finally invites him
over for an evening. Here's part of the verse:
"A rainbow painted the sky today, as I stopped at
your front gate.
You were so sweet to say we should meet; I hoped I
wouldn't be late."

But the shades were drawn, and the house was dark. No
one answered his knock on the door. When he asked the
boy who lived next door, "Have you seen Annie today?",
his only reply was, "Annie doesn't live here anymore."
Now his rainbow has turned to shades of grey, and
clouds darken the sun. The bluebird's song is stilled.
And he sings, "My world can't go round without you."

Well, you get the idea. It's a song that's never been
performed on a show, nor in contest, and your quartet
or chorus could be the first to present it to an
audience, or to the judges.

And, Yes, it's yours for a Two Dollar bill, with
permission to perform, and to make copies for your
quartet or chorus. If your singers are looking for a
song with lots of heart, and opportunities for
heartfelt expressive singing, and making an impression
on your audience and the judges, give this a try. If
the idea appeals to you, send your Two Dollar bill, or
equivalent, to me at the address below, and the music
will be on its way the very next day.

I'll be announcing a new song/arrangement in this
series each month from now on. By the way, the next
original song in the series is an "easy to learn" song
for the coming holiday season that your listeners will
enjoy.

Keep on ringing those good old barbershop chords!!
