A list for enthusiasts of Franz Josef Haydn (1732-1809) , contemporary of Mozart who was the best known composer in his time.
If you have been searching for a place to express your fondest thoughts, feelings, or opinions about Haydn's life or music, then this group is for you.
Any topic is most welcome--whether it be favorite works or recordings, announcements or reviews of new (or old) books, CD's, or live performances; even expressions on how this music has personally influenced your life--provided that it relate to Haydn, his eighteenth century world, or his place in posterity.
Although our discussions are informal (and hopefully, we will get to know one another, as they unfold), the scholarship of Haydn's compositions and career is strongly encouraged and supported here, as well.
Particularly worthwhile in this regard will be any shared information which will perhaps shed light upon the (oftentimes puzzling) authenticity and chronology of his works.
Exchanges relating to Haydn's contemporaries are welcome here, as well.
