Hits in Canada - ARC label   Message List

I have had better luck than I expected locating ARC albums with Hit
Records and Country & Western Hits masters. That is once I found out I
was looking for. ARC albums show up frequently on ebay. The singles
are very rare only because there doesn't seem to much of a market for
them.
ARC claimed to be stocked in 3,000 stores so they probably sold quite
a few albums and singles.

ARC issued Hit Records masters on the Canadian Hit Records line of
singles. Then they decided in 1963 to put the Nashville "Original
Sound Hits" on their Hit Parade album series. Hit Parade 21 has 6
songs recorded by Hit, and 6 songs recorded by someone else. I am
assuming it is the company that provided sound-a-likes to ARC before
signing with Hit. Starting with Hit Parade 22 all songs on the albums
were Hit recordings until Hit started it's own distribution in Canada
with another company.
I am posting the non-Hit ARC songs to the file area in hopes someone
has these on other records, and can identify the source. My guess is
England because of the way they sing "Prima" on Donna, The Prima
Donna, and the inclusion of the songs Martian Hop, The Kind Of Boy You
Can't Forget, and Wham. These were probably bigger hits in England
than the US.
Any thoughts? I'd like to hear them.

Paul

Hi Paul,      Just a guess, but they were probably from the Embassy label in England.  I know ARC had a lot of Embassy tracks on their LP's and even...
