Houston Early Music’s 2005-2006 season will open with a performance by The English Concert under the direction of acclaimed baroque violinist Andrew Manze, 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 800 Houston Avenue.

The English Concert was founded in 1973 and quickly earned a place among the world’s leading period instrument groups.  With an exceptional combination of sheer enjoyment in music-making and technical brilliance both on concert platforms and in over 100 recordings the orchestra became worldwide ambassadors for British performing arts.

Andrew Manze was associate director of The Academy of Ancient Music from 1996 to 2003, and succeeded Trevor Pinnock as artistic director of The English Concert in July 2003. He is increasingly sought after as a guest conductor in symphonic repertoire and oratorios throughout Europe, the US and Australia. Manze has released an astonishing variety of CDs. Recordings made with The Academy of Ancient Music have garnered many international prizes, including the Gramophone, Edison and Cannes Classical Awards.

The program includes works by Vivaldi,  H.I.F. Biber,  Johann Pachelbel and J.S. Bach.

Noted as an engaging speaker, Manze will discuss the evening’s performance in a pre-concert talk at 7:00 pm.

Volunteer Opportunities

If you would like to help bring the joy of early music to Houston, and to get to know the folks behind the scenes, please call or email us. Our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to find ways you can get involved. It takes more than excellent musicians to make the music: it won't happen without the invaluable effort of ushers, envelope stuffers, concert assistants, ticket takers, reception hosts ... and many more people just like you.
