Hi all
Following on from kicking things off with the Hybrid Q&A yesterday,
here's more news in response to the questions that were submitted and
picked out. (There's still plenty more to come too!)
:)
Cheers
Nick
**Q4** For the future release of RAAPB2 do you think you will be
revisiting older remixes and trying to get them released or will
it be newer material only?
Mike: Mostly brand new mixes because we've been putting together
bootlegs this year to DJ with which probably won't see the light of
day as they're of rock bands who don't like playing with
'electronic' artists. We've been remixing some really beautiful and
sometimes quite dark score material which is all work in progress
right now, but it's an inventive use of source music that would never
normally enter into the dance scene. We're working on a mix of Dear
Clarice by Hanz Zimmer from the Hannibal score, really beautiful but
dark choirs and a killer bassline. Oh yes, we're off on a tangent, we
hope you enjoy the ride.
**Q5** Old chestnut - 'All I Want' instrumental.....Mike made a point
of handing the track over to KirstyHawkshaw (as per the release on
Hybridized.org of a clearer version of this track on a Hybrid DJ set
and associated track listing) and I believe Kirsty was under the
impression that Mike was possibly going to help produce her latest
album. I realise that Mike and Chris are really busy at the moment but
I was just wondering if they still had any plans to help Kirsty with
her album or if they had considered doing any further work with Kirsty
on their own new album ?
Mike: We don't think Kirsty will be making an appearance on the new
album as we've been chasing a few other female vocalists to give
things a different slant. All I Want was originally written about 3
years ago and was actually the first track finished for Morning
Sci-Fi. We used the instrumental in a few DJ sets to test it out
(notoriously in Sydney for Gatecrasher I recall) but we never felt
that it fitted on the second album for some reason. In hindsight it
probably should have made it on there but hindsight is a marvellous
thing. Come to think of it, what the hell were we doing putting Fatal
Beating on Wide Angle when we had Kill City waiting in the wings? You
live and learn...Also, to give you the full history of All I Want
before I digress any more, In Good We Trust was actually written for
All I Want and shares some of the sound design noises, there is
actually a version which has vocals, strings and everything else but
was considered a bit too over the top for release. Re-used, re-worked
and re-edited and still not used. I don't know if we'll be producing
any more tracks for Kirsty, she's adorable and a really good friend
but I don't know if musically we're travelling in the same circles
anymore. Never say never though...
**Q6** What do you think the two of you will do when you've had enough
of travelling around and you finally hang your DJing boots up?
Mike: Probably sit in a large comfy studio with Chris just north of
San Francisco or perhaps somewhere unusual like Croatia, producing
other bands and working on an occasional score. I don't think we could
ever stop making music in one form or another, it's in the blood and
is the only thing I know we can do (fairly) well. Music is for life,
not just for Christmas.
