Session in Zürich, Zentrum Klus, Asylstr.130, Tram 3,8 oder 15 bis
Hölderlinstr., dann in Tramrichtung weiter, rechte Seite. Grosser
Saal, 16.00 - ??? 10 Years Celtic Spirit

Since 14 years I am organizing Irish Culture Events in Switzerland and
since 10 years exactly the Culture Weeks on Inishmore. I am celebrating
10 years Celtic Spirit on Sunday 11 March. There are different things on
the programme. I have Liz Weir, the storyteller from Antrim and Treasa
the Sean-nós singer from Inishmore here. But from 16.00 on a session
is planned and some musicians promised a few months ago that they will
be there. And now they just cancelled. Now I am a bit desperate, but I
know there are a lot of great musicians out there and it would be great
if you could come along. A session just with a storyteller and a singer
is not good enough. Sorry now it is quite short notice. I did send a
message about it before. May be you read it but I would be grateful to
who is able to join so that I can relax and look forward. Ican send you
more details if you mail or phone me. ph.044 2520918. Drinks and food is
provided. Thanks for your support.

Also sicher
des Mittelaltermarktes statt, also sicher schönes Ambiente, genug
Bier-/Met-Verpflegung, keine Anmeldung, einfach mal hereinschauen

Also sicher

Viel
Spass.

Hi SessioneerInnen!!

Just to remind you that there will be a session as planned at the Alte
Schmitte in Steffisburg starting at 8.30p.m on Friday 25th May. Because
of the heat and the high humidity we might consider installing a
pipeline from the tap behind the counter to the middle of the long
table. In which case I think it sensible to arrange a rota whereby at
least one player is "working" and the other ten or so cooling down! On
the other hand we could...................................well, why
don`t we just play it by ear and see what happens!

Hiyo Sessioneers

Following a request for a Ceili band for a wedding dance in the
Grandhotel Giesbach in Brienz for September 1st this year, only half of
the (normally 4-person) Ceili dance band are available. Until now, we've
been unable to find replacements for the two missing musicians. Can you
help?

We need at least one, but preferably two fast, solid players -one lead
and one accompanist- who can hook up with the existing banjo and
accordion player to provide -say- around 10 dance sets. Both existing
players have a wide repertoire and play routinely for Set- and Ceili
dances around Switzerland.

Though primarily for the fun of it, the event is paid and expectations
are high. There would be some initial effort involved agreeing a common
repertoire. The band are based in / around Bern.

You are not being asked to lead the sets, but should certainly have good
presence. If -individually or with another musician- interested in
taking up the challenge, please let me know a.s.a.p.

Thanks and regards
Douglas

Hi there
I posted this some days ago, it seems it never made it into the
newslist. I try again :

Hallo zusammen
Ich spiele also
Elena

Hello
a free fiddle looking for people who would like to play music with me!
I've been playing celtic, west-european, and "medievalternative"
music for many years. My newest love is swedish folk music.
I like eastern european folk music too, don't have that much
experience in playing it.
I love playing for people, listening, dancing, partying!
I'm an experienced amateur, and I always take time for music. I live
in Berne and have no problem moving around.
I play violin/fiddle and a 5-string-viola, too. So I love to play
accompaniment as much as lead.
If you think you might like to make music with me, or your band/
project is looking for some more strings, let me know! And pass it on!
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Elena

Salut
A bientôt!

Hi everyone

We finally found another room for our next Céilí (unfortunately we can't
have the room in the "Webere" anymore) and I would like to announce the date
already so that you can mark it in your agendas:

Friday, November 2 2007
7.30 - 8.30 p.m.: Introduction Workshop
8.30 p.m.: Céilí to the music of band "Toe for Toe"

Venue: Mappamondo, Länggassstrasse 44, Bern
(from the train station about 7 minutes on foot, or by bus with the bus Nr.
12 till Mittelstrasse or Unitobler, the restaurant Mappamondo is right in
between these two stops)

Entrance Fee: 20.- (Reduction: 15.- Fr.)

You will note that we had to raise the entrance fee. That is because we have
to pay quite a high rent for the room. It was very difficult to find a new
place and as it is very important for us to continue with our Céilís we
"risk" it with the new room. It is very lovely, very big and there is no
column in the middle ;-)!

So I hope to see many of you there!

Best regards

Hi all

A big thanks to those who responded to the request for musicians for a
Ceili dance in the Grandhotel Giessbach on lake Brienz last weekend, and
**especially** to those not (yet) well enough known to "Toe for Toe" to
be taken on.

Elandir's Breandan Wade (uillean pipes) and Gilles Clavel (bouzouki)
joined Martin Fleischmann (accordion) and Franz Mühlethaler (banjo) of
Toe for Toe to drive Saturday night's dances -- and with striking
results. The hotel's duty floor manager later described the music and
atmosphere as the best he's seen in the five years he has been working
there..

Toe for Toe (in their normal lineup) will be playing for Irish Ceili
dancing in Bern in November (an "Friends of Ireland" event wide open to
all). With rapid -and frequent- partner change and a location smack
beside the University, for young energetic dancers of both sexes this is
THE place to be on November 2nd..

     When Friday 2 November 2007
     19:30 - 20:30 Short Introductory Workshop
20:30 - Late Ceili dancing till you drop..

station ca. 7 minutes by foot, or take Bus number 12 to either

A cairde,

Please forgive the general email. I just want to let you know that
Anne-Marie O’Farrell and myself are organising a demonstration about the
current destruction of sites at the Tara/Skryne valley and details are

be very much appreciated. Others among you may or may not play the harp, but
in any case we'd like to ask your support for this event. If you're not able
to bring a harp on the day, a golf umbrella would be a good alternative!
Anne-Marie, Cormac De Barra and myself along with Liam O Maonlaí, Steve

Hiyo sessioneers,

Some info on this year's focal session at the Folk Festival Rütti at the
Inforama Rütti, in Zollikofen near Bern, this Friday to Sunday, 14-16th
September 2007.

This is a simple but popular participation music and dance festival.
Whatever your stylistic leanings, pack your instruments and your
dancer's elan... The more take part, the more fun for everyone..

Providing you get there in time (8:30 pm) to defend it against the
hordes of French bagpipe and hurdy-gurdy (drehleier) players, Saturday's
Irish session will again take place in the large central cafeteria/bar.
There is plenty of room here, with sizeable tables which can be pushed
together allowing some 8 players to sit along each side. The result last
year was a large, but very coherent session and no seating problems.
Despite having seating for around a hundred in the room, the atmosphere
remains surprisingly intimate.

The bar remains open until 2am ( or until no further listerer / drinkers
are left - whichever hits first ).

In addition to the normal players from Steffisburg and Germany, the
organisers tell me some of the Lausanne sessioneers are coming. How's
about some from Zürich, Geneva and beyond? There's room for all and no
problem with accommodation.

Full program with accommodation (on straw, in your own tent or maybe
even a rented room) details on http://www.folkfestival.ch/

Other folk/trad events are listed on

Hi all,

Just a little advertisement to tell you that Elandir
took part in the Christmas Concert of the SRG SSR Idée
Suisse that was recorded on the 9th of December in
Weinfelden. It will be broadcast on Saturday the 22nd
of December from 11 to 12.30 on RSR La Première, DRS1,
Rete Uno and Radio Rumantscha. You will also hear 3
very good choirs (DRS-Singers, Goccia di Voci and
Cantus Firmus) and a great brass band (Lucerne Chamber
Brass Ensemble).

That was a high quality concert that is really worth
having a listen.

Enjoy the end of the year and all the best for the
next to come.

Hope to meet you soon.

Gilles

Hi everybody,

First of all, if you missed Elandir on the radio, you can repair your fault here
;-)
http://www.rsr.ch/la-1ere/le-kiosque-a-musiques#samedi

But... Let's talk about really serious things now.

Our flute player, Johan, left the band a few months ago. We thought that maybe
there could be someone, somewhere, that might be interested and motivated to
join the band.

In order to get an optimal melodic section again, we would really like to
welcome either a flute player or a concertina player (male or female) in the
band. He or she would have the great, unique, amazing, ever dreamt chance to
integrate one of the most incredible, talented, charismatic, charming melodic
section in the country (or is it in the world ?) made of Vanessa Loerkens on the
fiddle and Brendan Wade on the pipes and whistles.

I don't talk about the rythmic section... I don't know enough adjectives...

If ever you feel like joining us, please leave us a message on 076 472 20 54 or
send an e-mail at info@.... Or maybe you know someone who knows somebody
who knows a person whose friend has a neighbour that... Please, feel free to
pass on the information.

And if, unfortunately, you haven't heard or seen us yet, you can visit our
website www.elandir.ch.

And if you want to give me some more eulogistic adjectives, feel free to reply
:-)

I wish to all of you a merry christmas and a great 2008 full of music and dance.

See you soon

Gilles
