Rod Waterman reports:
Iron & Wine, the brainchild of lyrical genius Sam
Beam, has just finished work on a five-track EP
for Sub Pop, tentatively scheduled for release on
September 9th. Entitled The Sea and the Rhythm,
the EP features five songs that didn't quite make
it onto last year's acclaimed and remarkable
album, The Creek Drank the Cradle. Tracklist:
01 Beneath The Balcony
02 The Sea and the Rhythm
03 The Night Descending
04 Jesus The Mexican Boy
05 Someday The Waves
Three of the cuts on The Sea and the Rhythm
(including the title track) are from an earlier,
indepedently released EP that was untitled. The
tracks "Beneath The Balcony" and "The Night
Descending" are previously unreleased.
Meanwhile, Iron & Wine never sleeps. Beam told
Pitchfork that he's just finished recording
tracks for a second album with producer Brian
Deck at Engine Music in Chicago. The album should
see the light of day around March 2004. And while
the songs get mastered and the tracklist and
title are finalized, Beam is taking his act on
the road in October for a bunch of dates, many of
which are with British electrostentialists
Broadcast, which seems at first blush to be a
pretty strange contrast. The tour winds down with
a few dates in the company of Sub Pop labelmates
and acoustic kindred spirits Fruit Bats. Ahhh,
that seems more like it. Tour dates:
