Has anyone seen the current tour? (Is anyone even reading this board?)
I caught the last 40 minutes of the Cambridge, MA show, and I was
disappointed. I love the albums and listen to them all the time, but the
show seemed a little flat and uninspired to me. Lion's Mane was solid,
but the Postal Service cover and Promising Light (among others) were
slowed down quite a bit and seemed to suffer for it.
The crowd was also distracting . . . random hollers and whoops, which
don't really seem appropriate for the tunes. Of course, that's not Sam's
fault, but he didn't really seem to know what to do with the crowd or
pace of the show.
I also came to this show after watching my beloved Red Sox lose a
heartbreaking Game 7, so I wasn't in the best of spirits. That being
said, I'm pretty sure the show would've disappointed anyway. At the
least, the performances seemed inferior to those on the KCRW
broadcast (with the exception that all guitars were in tune last week).
Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone else has any thoughts on this.
I'm a huge fan, so I'll certainly give Sam another chance live, at any
rate . . .
