Thanks so much for sharing this with us, Zebra! And I'm particularly happy to see Munich's Hardest Hits mentioned because I was on volumes 3 and 4 of their "Melodic Rock is Back" CD samplers and have back-to-back tracks with Jim Peterik on volume 3. When I signed to do that sampler, I had no idea that Jim, my biggest songwriting influence, was going to be on it! How cool it was when I found out that he was and especially to open the liner notes and see a picture and profile of me next to a picture and profile of Jim! And in the picture of me, you can see Ron Verlin's autograph on my bass guitar!
Peter Hanft and Thomas Schafhauser, who run MHH, are great guys and I'm happy not only for the interest they showed in my music, four years before my album even came out, but also to have them as my friends.
Another outstanding source to discover great melodic rock, old and new, is http://www.myspace.com/melodicrockradio. Their episodes are archived there. And there are several other great ones, many of whom are among my MySpace friends.
I gave up on mainstream radio about 10 years ago, at the age of 26. Internet and satellite stations are far superior. Mainstream stations now are largely run by corporate monsters and have extremely narrow playlists. My 11-year old listens to Radio Disney and I think they just have 25-30 songs in the playlist at once - they play about the same stuff every two hours.
And on class rock stations, I simply don't feel the need to spend another four or five minutes of my life listening to "Hotel California," "More Than a Feeling," "Free Bird," "Lights" or any of those. I'm still constantly searching for the next ultimate listening experience.
Thanks again for the post! Best wishes & keep melodic rocking!
Steve
