Victor, Felix and I both enjoyed looking/listening to the Stu Blank Tribute Page, Thanks for sharing it.
Felix was Stu's guitar player for several gigs toward the end of his life and has told me some stories of his experiences.
He also played with Stu when they were both in the backing band for Girlfriends -> changed name to 7th Heaven.
Jack-- thanks for inviting us to your new group. We couldn't exist without your famous list of what's happening on weekends!
Peace

Not that it is, or will be, but even IF having Mo back as a regular contributer is the ONLY benefit of Jack's Blues Clues, it's a damn good one! I've missed you, Mo.

Thanks for all you do, Jack. I used to "Lurk" on BABC just for your calendar every weekend and now it's got its own place and going to be even bigger.
Sorry to have
missed you and Stan's show at the Tradewinds last weekend. I had every intention on going but didn't get back from visiting family up north til way late. I was wiped. My Mom had us working on her land and I also forgot how tiring little ones are.
Again, Thanks for all you do and I'm really excited for you and your new endeavor.
I fell for that Blues Power Band when Tom brought them up to the
Tradewinds not so long ago. It was so awesome and I hope they make
it up this way again. Sunday afternoons in the City are just a bit
difficult for me being way up here in the North bay. I know that's
nn excuse but anyway.....
I'm sorry to hear they're being bumped.

Love ya!
Mo
generally, if you email us and tell us something really hot or special is happening and we don't have something already booked, we'll be there.
It also helps if you put us on the guest list, send a limo, and buy our drinks...or at least get the club to set aside a good table for us. The Tradewinds made us a sign and had bottles of champagne on ice...that was pretty cool. ;-)
but seriously...we're heading out to concord tonight for a garage band reunion party and i'll see if we can't make a date to come to your jam...and we'll try and coordinate with whats going on at the Half Moon Bay Brewery and make a whole thing out of it.
:-)

Thanks Shana --
I'll use spell checker next time--not!...and the misspelling above was purely intentional. I'm intending to go back where I last saw you hanging out to hear the Dave DeWitt/Wendy Workman combo this afternoon on a membership drive mission along with a blues lesson from Professer Dave. OK, Shauna it's Groove Master Dave Workman, the Queen of Boogie Woogie on Hammond instead of piano Wendy DeWitt, John "Broadway" Tucker's amazing voice and Jimmy Hobson on drumns that's gonna get me off line and in the groove at the Saturday Soul Session at The Saloon from 4 to 8pm with no cover charge.
I'm feeling the love today and you and everyone else who have joined this forum
is .85% of that (117 of you in just over a day ain't bad). While putting this thing together I discovered that the 1100 plus membership at Bay Area Blues Club had 236 members with no e-mail addresses so they're probably not active, 288 members had dead e-mail accounts so they're definately not active . That leaves around 600 with plenty of dead weight in there and a bunch that have multiple ID's so they can respond to some messages anonymously. As I said, I am feelin' the love thanks to y'all.
Maybe I'll see some of you in North Beach in a bit.

Shauna Marshall Creative Director Napa Valley Life Magazine p 707.363.7693 f 707.252.9301 mail@...
Here's a Blues Clue for y'all:
I returned home from an fun afternoon at the Saloon (thanks to Dave
Workman, Wendy DeWitt and John "Broadway" Tucker) with February
schedule in hand (which I've already typed into our group calendar)
and notice a big change. After next Sunday, King Perkoff's Band is
back on the Sunday afternoon schedule in place of Blues Power. I
liked it when both these bands were in every other week rotation but
its been around six months of one and six months of the other
recently and King is back in town and his band makes Sundays fun down
there too BUT that means that there's only this afternoon (4pm-8pm
and no cover charge) and next Sunday left to see Applejack with the
Blues Power horn section. So, if you're too far away or not
interested in attending a Sunday blues jams near you I highly
recommend you stop by because you'll fast see why attending the Blues
Power gigs there have been high on my list of guiltless pleasures.
If you need some blues to be chased away because it's been a bad day
or week Blues Power will do that for you better than anyone. Those
that saw Applejack sing at Steve Freund's last gig will discover he's
a great harp player too and with at least two saxes backing him is
able to create some powerful and uplifting. You'll want to check in
at the Saloon and check out Blues Power during the next two weeks to
see if I'm lyin'. I've never left there after their show without a
big smile on my face and know that's how it'll be for you too.
Another change on the regular schedule there is that Johnny Nitro's
Friday and Sunday gigs next week have substitutes. On Friday it'll
be Tony Perez and Second Hand Smoke and next Sunday after the last of
a string of Blues Power Sundays will be The Chris Cobb Band. It
looks like I'll be doing marathon bar stool duties at the Saloon next
Sunday and hope to see some of you there.
If anyone picks up the Saloon's printed February schedule do be aware
that, in an ecological and/or cost saving move, Greg printed the new
schedule on the back side of the January schedule. A great idea but
you'll want to put a big X over January so you won't get confused.
Also, Ron Hacker won't be on the Saloon schedule until March because
the second and third schedules are always taken and the remaining two
Saturdays nights were booked long ago for Nick Gravenites and Barry
Melton who have many fans waiting for their every three month or so
there appearances. Mr. Hacker is at Biscuits & Blues on the 8th and
because he's not on the Saloon schedule should impress the Biscuit
bosses with a packed house (but only with your help!).
Jack
Shauna, what do I have to do to get you to carry out that threat?

I'll use spell checker next time--not!...and the misspelling above was purely intentional. I'm intending to go back where I last saw you hanging out to hear the Dave DeWitt/Wendy Workman combo this afternoon on a membership drive mission along with a blues lesson from Professer Dave. OK, Shauna it's Groove
Master Dave Workman, the Queen of Boogie Woogie on Hammond instead of piano Wendy DeWitt, John "Broadway" Tucker's amazing voice and Jimmy Hobson on drumns that's gonna get me off line and in the groove at the Saturday Soul Session at The Saloon from 4 to 8pm with no cover charge.
I'm feeling the love today and you and everyone else who have joined this forum is .85% of that (117 of you in just over a day ain't bad). As I said, I am feelin' the love thanks to y'all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3plFhpHTibE
is it early...?? or late...?
Apologies to Ed for my misspelling of his last name. It's late or
maybe early depending on your frame of reference and I sometimes
forget that both Ed Earley and Ed Ivey may have bought the vowel e
from Vanna White to polish up their last names. Anyway, I know how
to spell their names correctly but just didn't this time for Mr.
Earley. Like the kids say these days, "My bad!"

The current edition of BluesWax e-zine features part one of a two part
interview that you might want to check out. After 10 years with
Albert King Ed moved on but here's part of the story:
"...once you became Albert King's property, nobody else was going to
hire you. So, if he decided that you were going to retire then you
automatically had to retire because no one else was going to touch
you. The only way I could break that taboo was to go far away. I
considered leaving the country...". Stuff like that doesn't get
talked about much and Ed tells is like it is. If he's ever recorded
with any of you here you might find a mention of your name in theis
short and fun to read interview. Part 2 will go on line late Tuesday
or early Thursday more than likely. There's also an reprint of Roy
Roger's interview from a year ago to make things Bay Area-ish for us.

Since this got on the public board my reply might help others....mayb
e not.
First, you can always change the way you recieve e-mails by using
the "Edit Membership" option just above the blues banner with this
group's name on it. Those that have joined with the individual e-mail
option might want to change that to the Daily Digest option if the
message board gets a lot of traffic. That won't help you in you
situation.
What will work will be me or you unsubscribing you from the group with
the waverider ID you signed in with and me sending you an new
ivitation to your AOL account which has the same name as one of the
guys playing his butt off at thye Redwood Jam this week--oh, yeah,
that was you! Anyway, that'll get you what you want and I'm sorry it
didn't click with me when you requested the same at that other group
that we're still all in. You can also set your "Edit Membership"
option so you get no e-mail and are planning on reading the messages
off of the Home page. So, look for a new invite in your aol mail and
I'll sign out the silversurfer--I mean waveriderjon51 subscription
and your world here will be bluesy again.
The partly computerized message I sent you previously was to remind
you that you don't have a yahoo ID. Without one you can't access the
fun stuff that you can find by visiting the group from its Home page.
The Links will take you to the Calendar which is a good way of finding
event information when yahoo's e-mail servers are down (like it is
right now) plus there's days worth of fun hidden in the Links. All
members are invited to add your own fun in those Links. I've got lots
of different topics and there's a completely empty area for your
Photos.

NOTE:
I wasn't going to start posting in here until the 1st but since the
ice has already been broken (and it didn't even need fixing) and
Yahoo is having message problems so this same list has been in limbo
for hours and hasn't shown up the the Bay Area Blues Club's board
where it is marked to be the last time posted there. Hopefully, this
will appear on the board here before the weekend is over! Just in
case, the calendar here should be pretty much up to date and you can
click on the link to the left and see what's happening.
Some club members may also be fans of black gospel. I'm sad to
announce that Sammy Pickney of the Pickney Singers just passed this
week. He was in need of a liver transplant and had been in intensive
care at Stanford Medical Center. Sammy was a deacon at New Antioch
Baptist Church on Fell St. in SF. He had the ability to electrify
audiences with his singing. His impeccable style and beautiful lead
will be missed.
Producer Tony Heilbut and I visited with Reverend Claude Jeter of the
Swan Silvertones last week in the Bronx, NY. Jeter had suffered a
mild heart attack and was moved to two different hospitals and finally
to a home in the Bronx. He's on a respirator and couldn't speak, but
he recognized Tony and I and, according to the nurses, smiled for the
first time since he got there. FYI, Jeter is the singer whose style
heavily influenced Al Green, Eddie Kendricks, Curtis Mayfield and many
others. Please keep him in your prayers.

Hey Bluzers. . . James Reed is back from the Bluz Cruz and ready to
blow with Mojo Madness tonight at the Old Princeton Landing near Half
Moon Bay. Downbeat is 9 p.m. We hope to see you there. I've got a new
guitar and a new amp and I'm anxious to try out both.

Just in from John Nemeth is news of his new cd release:
Happy New Year Everyone!
I am very proud to announce the release of my latest
CD
"Magic Touch," which combines twelve evocative tracks
of original
material and songs from some of my favorite artists.
The album was produced by the famed
Anson Funderburgh, and I was once again lucky enough
to
have Mr. Junior Watson join us on guitar. You'll
appreciate
the mix of blues and soul accentuated by the legendary
Texas Horns.
I had a wonderful time making this CD, I think we
really found the right chemistry.
I believe it is the best CD I've made yet.
"Magic Touch" is available for purchase on my website
http://www.johnnemethblues.com/
This Spring, I will begin a U.S. tour where I hope to
see you
personally at
a show! You can see the tour schedule on my web site.
Thank you for all of your support.
John Nemeth
This group might not officially launch for awhile since I'm still an
active part of the yahoo Bay Area Blues Club group of which I'm a co-
founder and monitor. If you've never seen that group you can go to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bayareablues where I've maintained a
calendar that is now filled to capacity and just too hard to add
events to. For the weekends I've been cut and pasting the blues
events in the Calendar to a list I've called Jack's WEEKEND BLUES at
a Glance which is posted as a message for easy use by all members.
These are features I'm going to be moving into this new group which
should have plenty of available space for entering new events in the
Calendar and just that will reduce the time I spend doing this little
labor of love dramatically.
Also, there's a couple things available for use here (ex. Polls) that
weren't an option on the existing group.
So, if you've found this please bookmark the site and check back in a
few weeks when I should be ready to launch.
Thanks for your patience -- I look forward to your membership here
since it's not just about a calendar but it's gonna be a lively forum
for you to promote, rate, review and discuss things related to our
Bay Area Blues scene.
Happy New Year!
Jack
