If I’m not mistaken…Bitman1 is
correct about the fact of the Liberty LP releases (in mono) were just ‘folded
down’ stereo (or should I say Visual
Sound?
However, GTTOLR are Jan’s 45 mixes, according
to interviews I’ve read (I will look up citations later), but I remember
that Dean wanted to release Jan’s mixes due to their reflection of the sound
“heard on car radios” (where Jan would often have acetates of the
45’s played on KFWB and would audition them in his own car before OK’ing
the releases.

New Jan & Dean album!
GTTOLR was mono, but may not have been
Jan's mono mixes. This album uses Jan's original 45 singles
masters. I'm guessing that back in the day when Bones mixed the cuts
to stereo for Jan & Dean's albums (back in the day when they came out
in both mono and stereo) that the stereo mix was just 'folded down' to
mono for the mono album master. More than likely those fold downs were
what they used for GTTOLR. I'm thinking this will be our first chance
ever to hear Jan's (except for Popsicle, which I'm hoping will be Dean's 45 mix
to keep it original) original creations on CD.

It's still a new Jan & Dean album, which we ain't seen a lot of in the last few years. I'm looking forward to hearing the mono mixes of rarities like
... FOLK CITY
As for GOTTA TAKE THAT ONE LAST RIDE, this is still, conceptually, the greatest J&D compilation on the planet - funny, crazy, the best song line-up in the best order, that great shot from the 1973 Surfer's Stomp Reunion on the back, classic Dean Torrence comic liner notes plus new (at the time) rarities like the LMS version of Gonna Hustle You, Sunshine Music and Vegetables.
At the time that album came out (1974) original J&D albums were hard to find... this was the only way to hear rare stuff like Bucket T, Three Window Coupe, Schlock Rod, etc. If United Artists had spent a quarter of Capitol's ad budget for ENDLESS SUMMER this collection would have gone platinum. But, as I recall Dean once saying, "If Patty Hearst really wanted to stay hidden she'd have been on United Artists Records... no one would have ever found her..."

Subject: RE: [Jan-and-Dean-Fans] New Jan & Dean album! Well, it's not exactly a unique idea. I mean, it looks like it's basically along the same lines as the "Gotta Take That One Last Ride" CD, which I think is still in print and available on the internet. The "One Last Ride" CD also had the original mono mixes of many of their hits and singles, although it had less songs than this new collection.
I'll definitely being buying this new CD, and I'm glad to see that attention is being paid to Jan & Dean once again. I'm just not sure that it's going to sell very well, since most of these songs are already available on "Gotta Take That One Last Ride" and various other CD compilations.

Subject: [Jan-and-Dean-Fans] New Jan & Dean album! It won't be out until 6/17, but I've preordered. It's a Collector's Choice exclusive of the mono mixes of all their
singles - Both A and B sides. These are Jan's original mixes from the master tapes. A 2-CD set with liner notes, pics and interviews with Dean, among others. Liberty
