Will Jessica Simpson Ever Shed Nick Lachey, Find Real Man?

The divorce drama of former Newleyweds Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey
is playing itself out in the gossip-sphere like a bad dream.
Apparently, Nick Lachey feels he has "suffered countless indignities" during
his three-year marriage to Jessica Simpson, reports are saying. To some, it came
as no surprise that he filed legal papers last week seeking spousal support from
his ex, Jessica Simpson.
In People cover story 'Divorce Battle!': "Jessica was surprised that he left
the window open. She was under the impression that he wasn't going to want
spousal support," a source close to the starlet tells People. "Some would argue
that this is Nick's chance to become really rich.
A friend of Lachey is also quoted as saying the filing is just a negotiation
tactic, and that Lachey is really looking to take Simpson to the cleaners.
"He has no intention of ever receiving spousal support," his buddy tells the
magazine, adding: "The last thing he wants to do is to harm his (wife). All he
wants to do is to try and have a settlement that is fair so both of them can go
on with their lives. He doesn't want to drag this out and make it ugly in any
way."
But a reported discrepancy in their date of separation is now at issue. She
lists the date as November 23, the day the split was announced; he says it was
in December. The problem is that during this period, Simpson reportedly
pocketed close to a million dollars for a private performance, half of which
could potentially go to Nick, 32.
An insider comes to the defense of Jessica: "She wanted to hide in a hole
[during those weeks] but no, no, she met her commitments. She worked!"
But a Lachey mole maintains to the magazine that finances have nothing to do
with Nick's ire. His apparent problem is that during those three weeks, he
tried to convince Simpson to go to couples counseling but, "She wouldn't even
return his phone calls," says a source. Another person told US Weekly, "Nick
was trying to work on their issues. But by the 13th, it was clear there wasn't
anything they could do to salvage their marriage."
This all sounds like one big smokescreen to us, and apparently Jamie Foxx
agrees. The Oscar winner was on "Entertainment Tonight" earlier this week, and
told the t.v. tabloid: "I don't really agree with [Lachey's support filing],
because I think that's a cop-out."
"A real man don't do those kind of things. I'm a real man. Jessica, if
you're looking out, holler at a real man."
That sounds like a great idea... but we think the blonde bombshell needs to do
a little more growing up herself first.
