You gals have a great sense of humor about being the "newest" Diane and the "oldest" Diane. Many years ago, we had a situation in our family with names. My husband's sister's name is Judy, and a niece was born into the family and also named Judy. For a long time, they were referred to as Big Judy and Little Judy. When Little Judy was a teenager, she grew to be several inches taller than Big Judy. We tried Young Judy and Old Judy, but that just didn't work.
My oldest daughter, Patty, married a guy named Mike. Their first son was Michael, who was later called Mike. Patty got divorced, and her second husband's name is also Mike. After the divorce, she went back to using her maiden name, Patty Dixon. In the meantime, my son got married (and later divorced) and his wife's married name was Pattie Dixon. Pattie has a daughter named Stephanie, and my grandson Matthew has a fiancee named Stephanie. My husband is named Donald, our son is named Donald, we have a nephew named Donald, and I had a cousin named Donald. It does get confusing at times. Lois
"Will I see you in September, or lose you to a summer love?". Some schools have already opened their doors for a new school year, while most of them will begin classes after Labor Day. I wonder how many of those sweet teenage romances picked up where they left off last spring, and how many were lost to a summer love? Remember those two contradictory old sayings: "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" and "Out of sight, out of mind". Bittersweet memories for many.

It doesn't look like a publicity photo. It may have been taken in Johnny's home, or perhaps the home of one of the members of The Crests. Like many teens who wanted to get into the music business back then, Johnny may have learned to play the piano a little bit "by ear". However, in the photo album: Johnny Maestro Scrapbook, page 13 mentions Johnny playing the tenor sax. I think Johnny probably did play several instruments, though not on stage. He did play the bass guitar on stage with The Brooklyn Bridge in the mid-1970s.
"Wish She Was Mine" was the flip side of "No One To Love".
The second single on the JOYCE label for The Crests. Johnny was barely 18 years old when this was recorded, and his voice shows the promise of great things to come. "No One To Love" was the "A" side of the single, but it failed to chart.
I wish I could say it was a great birthday, but I'm afraid it'll go down in history as one of the five worst of my life. Don't worry; I've recovered.
Today is a big day here in Las Vegas. It's the eighth annual End of Summer Bash, a concert at a locals casino. They cater to us old folks and bring us acts that you'd never in your life expect to see, including one-hit wonders. FREE. You wouldn't believe who has been here over 16 concerts (they also have a Summer Kick-Off at the end of May.)
Last year we had all four original Standells (Dirty Water)!
It starts at 4pm and goes till 11pm or so. Today we're seeing The Vogues (with two originals, the lead and the falsetto), The Royal Guardsmen (Snoopy VS. The Red Baron), Eddie Holman (Hey There Lonely Girl), and Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs (Sugar Shack, Bottle of Wine).
It's 107 degrees out there today, so send me some cool thoughts.

If you're the spring chicken, I guess that makes Walter the egg. He'll be 28 on September 10. Thank goodness there are young people who love Johnny Maestro's music. Lois

Sorry Jack...Not a chance that I'd miss one of these concerts. I'll be standing in line three hours before it starts to be sure we get our usual front row seats, and I don't have a wireless thingy that gets the Internet. But my heart is with you, back in Boston, where I come from. :-)

I've got a few years on you, June. My oldest grandson turned 28 one week ago (I became a grandma at the age of 39). Frank Sinatra sang it best in the song "Young At Heart". As long as we love rock and roll and Johnny's music, we'll always remain young at heart. Lois
Welcome to our newest member, Mike. We hope you enjoy all the photos of Johnny Maestro and his bandmates, and please leave a message if you wish. We are united in our admiration of Johnny's musical accomplishments, and are determined to keep his music alive. Lois (Topaz Angel)
Paul McCartney said he had the idea of "Let It Be" after a dream he had about his mother during the tense period surrounding the sessions for The Beatles (the "White Album"). McCartney explained that his mother—who died of cancer when McCartney was fourteen—was the inspiration for the "Mother Mary" lyric. McCartney later said, "It was great to visit with her again. I felt very blessed to have that dream. So that got me writing 'Let It Be'." He also said in a later interview about the dream that his mother had told him, "It will be all right, just let it be."
