Sorry this review is late, not been well this week and very busy with work
commitments last week. Hope you like the review that follows ....
Went to the Audley End gig ... and I spoke to the Lord and the weather was kind
to me. We did have a few spots of rain, but luckily it stopped before Jools and
his fabulous band came on. The support was Joshua Radin (a brand new act for New
York City) he was good, one song was a Sam Cooke Cover, Bring It All Home To Me.
I am unable to give titles, sorry.
Jools and the band took to the stage approx 2010, they didn't disappoint. Dave
Edmunds was absent due to laryngitis. I hope you are better now Dave.
The set list was something like this - if I missed any out, I am very sorry.
Every member of the band did a solo which was great – some bands don't do this
but Jools' band do!
Double o Boogie – solo from Derek Nash
Fat Fred Solos from Chris Storr / Fayyaz Virji
Remember Me
Ray Charles number (think it's called Tell Me How Do You Feel) – was singing
this all the way home on the train.
Deptford Norture with a lovely solo from Derek Nash.
Snowflake Boogie solos from Winston Rollins and Mark Flanagan
Louise Marshall came on as the 1st guest, her 3 songs were Enchanted Castle, I
Went By and the Tennesse Waltz. Nb during I went by, members of the band played
as a "brass ensemble" instead of the string section of the album, which
featured, Roger Goslyn, Fayyaz Virji, Winston Rollins, Jon Scott, Chris Storr,
and Jason Mcdermid.
High Street, features various solos from all parts of the band, Dave Swift,
Gilson Lavis, Chris Holland, etc.
Reconsider Baby and Shaking Round the Clock - Chris Holland on piano, Jools on
boogie guitar. I would like to hear "play it Sam" not heard for a while. The
Boogie Woogie Queen Ruby Turner followed, her songs were Honey Rush – with the
trumpets dancing and playing nr were Mark plays hilarious, and solos from Phil
Veacock / Nick Lunt- I had a brolly and was dancing with this one was funny in
my view, Abel Mabel, I Told The Truth – solo from Lisa Grahame, The Informer,
and Peace In The Valley. Tuxedo was the last number before the encore.
The Thesius (sorry if I cannot spell this correctly) monk piece was in the set
list with Phil on Clarinet, Michael Bammi Rose on Sax, Jon Scott on Trumpet and
Winston Rollins on Trombone. A wonderful song, takes you on a journey, like a
steam engine in motion. I enjoy travel, I like visiting preserved railways in
the UK. I would love to hear this on a future album or even a live dvd. Bumble
Boogie was also played as well.
The encores were Enjoy Yourself and Well Alright – Jools, Louise, Ruby and Rosie
Holland all taking a share of the vocals. Security was very tight with a divide
down the middle and it didn't go until the end of the show – when it did cheers
from the crowd and the entire band! But was OK for me as I still enjoyed the
show. I hope it didn't spoil it for other fans.
Take Care Jools and all of the R&B Orchestra. What a show! Donna Redding.
