Jools' Radio 2 show this week was a one hour "Boogie Woogie Special" with
Charlie Watts, German Pianist Axel Zwingenburger and Lila Ammons, singer and
grand-daughter of the great Albert Ammons.

It can be listened to until Monday 14th December {if you're in the UK} on the
BBC iplayer. Here is a link :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00738f4

----------------------------------------------------------------

Pete - you mentioned top UK pianist Ben Waters a few weeks ago.

Coincidentally, Ben was due to appear on this radio program as he is an integral
part of the "ABC of Boogie Woogie", i.e. *A*xel Zwingenburger, *B*en Waters &
*C*harlie Watts, but was unable to appear due to illness.

There is a bigger connection here as Jools has made several appearances with the
ABC of Boogie. As well as the Later TV Show and Radio 2 Program, Jools has
played at two Concerts, one at the Bulls Head in London {not billed} and one at
Hamburg in Germany in October where he shared top billing with Axel, Ben,
Charlie and Lila {a concert I was very pleased I made a special trip over to -
seeing Jools play the Amos Milburn classic 'Down the Road Apiece' was one
highlight of many!}

----------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, Pete - enjoy Ben Waters ... not sure if your Gig is either Ben playing
solo piano or with his Band ... but you're right he's brilliant!

Here are a couple of my Movie Clips {one solo, one with Band} :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AT4IzEo6hhY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5P0HxGJc-g

BTW ... and yes that is Derek Nash playing saxophone in the Band one.

Another great gig from Jools this year, although very little of the older songs
were played (and only one encore!).

Here's most of what I remember of the setlist, which is similar to the Albert
Hall gig:
Double O Boogie
Fat Fred
Rocking Horse
Instrumental
La Vie En Rose (with Roger on accordion)
Got My Mojo Working
2 Jelly Roll Morton songs
3 songs by Louise Marshall, inc As I Went By and Tennessee Waltz
Got You Under My Skin (Rico)
High Street
Shaking Round The Clock
5 songs with Dave Edmunds - I Hear You Knocking, I'm A Roadrunner,
Come Back Baby, I Knew The Bride & Sabre Dance
5 songs with Ruby Turner: Honey Hush, The Informer, Trouble In Mind,
'Train song' (starts slowly and gets faster & faster, with Ruby giving it all
she's got!), and Knocking On Your Door
Tuxedo Junction

Encore:
Bumble Boogie
Enjoy Yourself

My wife can longer make this date, due to a stay in hospital. I would prefer the
face value of £31.50 (which is slightly less than it cost me, as it originally
included a booking fee), but may be willing to accept a slightly lower offer.

The seating plan here has been changed this year, but I'm pretty certain that
the seat is in the centre block of seats in the 2nd row (B22).

Drat! I can't believe I've missed that! But I don't have cable and don't
have this channel, so I don't really look at TV programs. Seems like
I've missed Jools :(
http://www.avo.ch/en/index.php (look at the "on air" page)

That's the concert I saw last year, I would have loved to see it again
or even tape it. Does anyone per chance have this?

Friday 13th Unlucky for some, great for music.

This is the forth time I've seen him at Harrogate and each time has been a
fantastic treat! Can't wait for next year!

The set was fresh but still with some old favourites, everyone on tip top form.

Thanks Jools and crew...

Hi Pete, the programme u were asking about HAS been broadcast was in the latest
series, programme two. The group was called THE ABC OF BOOGIE WOOGIE, about
halfway through Jools joined Axel, Ben and Charlie Watts on Drums.

I had it on DVD for a while but sadly now deleted. I am hoping the BBC repeat
the latest series over the xmas and new year period,I missed one myself,
normally repeated in the night approx 2am, check your tv listings over xmas and
new year period for BBC2.

I first saw them at a free concert in Canary Wharf in about 1991 when there was
only a newsagent, boots and a sandwich shop there!

I remember saying to a colleague, "Who's Jools Holland?" !! Been every year
since then!

I concurr! The last album has been a regular on my stereo I really adore
it! But I loooove boogie. This is great news!

While I am here: I was back to the venue where I saw Jools last year (in
Basel, Switzerland). This Sunday I went there to see Tom Jones! To see
the two of them there playing their songs would be the ultimate dream
come true for me! I would probably die from sheer happiness! I am still
on a little cloud, I got to be very, very close to the stage (literally
leaning on it!) this is what I missed last year seeing Jools. I don't
know why most people stayed seated, this festival even encourages people
to stand up and go towards the stage to dance. I felt really sorry that
it lacked the party ambiance we had this week end!

Subject: [Jools] New album?

We all know there's usually a new album released about
this time of year... the suspense is too much for me to take.
"Me and Orson Welles" soundtrack isn't enough, sorry.

Funnily enough, I've not checked the (nicely revamped) official
JH website for news lately.

Any rumours or overheard gossip would be greatly appreciated.

PS Anyone have an NTSC or PAL DVD copy of the 2009 Hooters?
