“1.  Regarding Chuck Southcott's comments on Chick Watkins and Adult Standards.  In my opinion Chuck Southcott should be programming an Adult Standard Station in Los Angeles. His track record at both KGIL and KMPC speak for themselves. Image Adult Standards on fm. Come on you stations that are on the fm band with a 1.0 and lower, give Chuck a call and let him help you. It wasn't that long ago that both KJOI AND KBIG were in the top 10 and playing Adult Standards.

2.  Brian Roberts in his comments said it right...it's the music. There is a missing link on the fm band. That's the music of the 50's, where is it? Elvis, Little Richard, and the list goes on. When he mentioned the list of jocks that played this music, they are missing too! Johnny Hayes, Mucho Morales and Humble Harve, all belong back in Los Angeles playing the music we grew up with! They all did it with KRLA in the 80's and the ratings were good too!  I'm sure Brian Roberts would enjoy being a part of it too!” –   Johnny St. Thomas

Hello KD Radio Listeners and Friends,
Before 2008 is over, let me commemorate the
50th Anniversary of KDNF, the predecessor
of the KD Radio group of stations.
    From http://www.oldiesmusicradio.com/history.htm we have this:

"In 1958, KDNF AM 840 was constructed by a
12 year old boy living in North Hollywood.
That boy, Steve Ricketts, had a love for electronics,
mechanics and "broadcast radio." Steve had dreams
of someday owning and operating his own
commercial radio station. At the age of 12,
the options available to him were very limited.
The only licensed options available to him
were "ham" or "CB" radio. Although these were
interesting hobbies, they were never intended
as a means of presenting commercial radio
programming to the general public. Thus,
the "pirate" 5 Watt AM home-built station would be his outlet."

  General Announcement
  Friday, February 6, 2009 9:41 AM
  From: "Steve @ KD Radio"
To: KD Radio @ Yahoo Groups

Hi, everyone

Some of you have seen our ghost town
video and others have not. I am happy
to announce that our video GHOST TOWN
TRAVELS that we produced back in 1996
is finally available for FREE on line.

All anyone has to do is go to our home page at either...

  http://www.WesternGhostTowns.com or..

  http://www.OldiesMusicRadio.com
and click on WATCH OUR VIDEO ON LINE.

You will find that link in
the CONTENTS section located in
the upper left hand corner of the page.

There are two ways to view the video.
The link will take you to the VIDEO page.
A player will automatically load.
All you have to do is push play
(the first button on the
  lower left of the player).

You can also click on the VIEW GHOST
TOWN TRAVELS link. That will take you
to Google Videos. The player on Google
  is slightly larger.

I have had to downgrade the quality
of the video so that it would stream
properly, even on slow Internet connections.
This maximizes the number of people
who will be able to view it. Those of you
who have DVDs or VHS copies still have
  better copies.

  Enjoy...and tell your friends.
We still need to produce video #2...
but where's the time??

  Steve

As KMIN 980AM approaches its 54th anniversary in July, I should mention again that KMIN 96.7FM covering Grants and Milan, New Mexico, joined the family this past November as a "translator" of KMIN 980AM, with great country music and other entertainment. KDSK 92.7FM, also in Grants, New Mexico, continues with sound souvenir oldies. KDSK and KMIN offer audio streaming. Last but not least is KD Radio Internet from southern California.
Thank you for listening.
Don.

Old Time Radio is on KMIN Sunday nights from 8pm to midnight. Have fun listening to John and Larry Gassman with "Same Time Same Station" from 8PM to 10PM, followed by Jerry Haendiges from 10 to midnight with "Old Time Radio Classics". It's network radio comedy and drama from the 1930's through the 1950's. Lots of fun to listen to.

New editions (of the reference books we use) add Bubbling Under, Classic Non-Hot 100, and #1 On Other Charts info to the 'Top Singles' book, and they include lots of information in other new books.
'Across The Charts The 1960s' shows the peak of every song that made the Hot 100, R&B (including Cashbox's R&B charts from 1964 - a year Billboard did not have R&B charts), C&W, Easy Listening, and Bubbling Under charts in the 1960s.
'Cream of the Pop 1950s' and 'Cream of the Pop 1960s' have info about every Billboard Top 10 song in those decades, PLUS copies of 200 to 300 full color Billboard advertisements for the records that were printed when the records came out.
The 'Top Singles' 1955-2008 book is now a massive 1340 pages!  Tons of info.  But don't throw away your previous editions - some song trivia in some previous editions didn't make the new edition.
Those are the new books I got.  But, there are other new books including Album Charts and Country Charts, many discounted during Record Research's 40th Anniversary Year.  While these books cover U.S. charts, there are similar publications for other countries, including UK's 'British Hit Singles' and Australia's 'The Book, Top 40 Research'.  And, SwissCharts.com is on the Internet.

There are several places to stay in Grants. The Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn
Express, Motel 6, Travelodge, Super 8 and the Best Western. These are all
located on the East end of town at exit 85 (off I 40). My favorite is the Best
Western by Subway. Book early. Prices usually go up before the bike rally.

The Fire & Ice Bike Rally is the weekend of July 16th and 17th. As usual, KDSK
will be broadcasting live by the Dancing Eagle tent.
