-Regarding the schedule for saturday at SRWC
I have yet to get the actual rehearsal time, but I suspect
that it will be around 3:30 or so, before Court. Not in the
morming.

Friday is a concert by volunteer.........not a choir
performance. But anyone who IS there on Friday night would be
welcome to perform and should contact Sabine if they are
intersted in doing a few numbers or something.

Ok - figured it out. For whatever reason, I can't download the files in
Safari, but it works fine in Explorer.

Problem fixed. CD burning. Practicing will commence.

Greetings voices
For Southern Region War Camp's activities
Some choices have been made
We are going to block in the rehearsal APPROX 90 minutes before
Court. SO, that means if it ain't learned by then, it aint gonna get
done!
The processional is a Palestrina Tune, "Illumina oculos meos"
It's 7 measures long and it repeats. I am TRYING to get it into
Notworthy, I should have it in by the end of the week. Siobhan (Q's
bard) will actually direct this one. I"l sing. oh joy.
The presentation piece is a quaint little ditty IN French by that
wonderful woman composer "Anon"
Ho La Hey and the tune is strikingly similar to Psalite Unigenito..
but not exactly.
The french is old, but it's not difficult. THAT one too will be in
noteworthy by the end of the week. This tune is actually for Genvier
and has her name in it!! SO that should be great.
I'd like to have someone, preferable not me, give the lyrics in
french and then translated in English (that could be me)..if there
are any volunteers, ....

Pre-Court Concert will include pieces already distributed and
rehearsed and in the files section of the EKCHorale page....AND
REcorder/vocal music. PLEASE bring instruments, I fear that there
will NOT be enough vocal distribution to cover 15-20 minutes of
music, so there are lots of cute things that we can do with multiple
verses and recorders/intstruments. It's outside, so even recorders
are a stretch.

Thanks all!!

See you at SRWC.

ps, i've got confirmation of 5 voices, all soprano and a bass. It's
probably not going to sound great.
LMK if you're planning on jammin'

There are some updates on our pennsic choir pages:  http://www.ravenstreet.org/kwchoir.htm

The changes are:

1) an updated roster, including the corrections and additions that you’ve sent me in the past month

2) corrections to "o sing joyfully"  (a few notes on the last page should be FLAT, not natural)

3) the addition of our "alleluia" "finale"

4) the "plan" for what we'll be working on at each practice.

Also, regretfully, Lady Siobhan will NOT be able to join us as assistant director/understudy. Other obligations from her Royal Bard job are going to get in the way.  *sniff*

The piece she was going to work us on was the Ave Maria.  I dearly love that piece (almost as much as the Byrd-Ave Verum Corpus) but I have nonetheless decided to drop it off the program.  When you look at the practice plan, you'll see why: so much music, so little time!

Of course, you might surprise me and we'll sing all this stuff perfectly the first time, and we'll never have to sit around pounding out parts.  Right...?

See you at Pennsic!

Anne.

WOW
   You guys were GREAT
I can NOT believe that we pulled that off!!

THANK YOU TO EACH and EVERY ONE of you!!

The Ho La Hey was really great. It DID pull together......and I got
some really great feedback.

The processional was awesome.....people were VERY impressed!!

I have NO idea if the Royalty even realized that we were there,
however!! the people DID hear us.

I hope that those who are at Pennsic on Sunday the 15th will have
some time to stop by the barn 1 PM for a rehearsal.

There are lots of plans for the EKChorale.

There is a badge in the works.........well, I'm thinking of one
anyway...... or at least I thought that one would be nice.

I am starting to put together the letter to her highness (Svava is a
friend of mine) saying that I'd like to have more music. And we're
available.

I hope that others come and sing......you know some music......go
teach your buddies........you can do it.

I'll see some ofyou at War.

Congrats to Deaborghill (or however you spell it) for your award and
to Gionatta for her award, I WAS SO PROUD!!!
*sniff...rubs eyes*..... it was so emotional.

If you know that someone sang with us, but might not be on this
list.....please let me know and I'll get them on this list..

I really don't know everyone's names
Thank you

To all musically reclined people:
Please note that the Pennsic A&S schedule is UP and RUNNING.
The EAST KINGDOM CHORALE will meet in the BARN, (which is the
KWC's old stomping ground) on Aug 15,Sunday 1 PM for 2 hours. Music
is provided.
KWC@Pennsic Rehearsals are in the PA tent.
Please make sure that you check out all the tents and spaces.

FYI - there is NO LOUD TENT this year up on that battlefield, behind
the Fencing Lists (PRAISE THE GODS)

There will be limited LOUD BAND rehearsals in the Barn.

Some of these times are NOT listed in the Pennsic Bulletin so you
need to check at the A&S point.

ALSO - please note that the A&S point has moved!!

this has been a friendly announcement from your Director Emeritas.

Safe travels to war!!

Having just managed to get onto the list, I suppose an intro is in
order: Hi, I'm Evan, and I'll be your bass section leader this War.

The official Section Motto for the basses is: "We Got It." (Old
Atlantian Choir quote.) With work and enthusiasm I believe we can
make it real. After the first 2-3 rehearsals I'll decide if we can
try to generate enough sound to move the director's podium. ;-)

I'll be getting to Pennsic some time on Land Grab weekend; you can
find me, or at least leave a message, at Clan Cambion (E-15 along
Howard's Fenway), or at Troll most mornings, or at Mystic Mail (tech
support), or at Heralds Point. (Doing names during open hours, doing
armory when the table is closed...)

Following suit from Master Evan - greetings from Arianna of Wynthrope!

I will be the KWC soprano sectional leader. The soprano sectional
rehearsal on Saturday, August 14 will be held in the Debatable Lands
camp Grimm's tent a few blocks down Chandler from the Performing Arts
tent on the Serengetti. As Mistress Anne has indicated, we'll all
gather at the PA tent and then move to our respective rehearsal
locations.

For those who don't know me, I've directed choirs in the SCA for over
16 years, first in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael and later in the
Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands. For the past few years I've sung
in the alto section of the KWC, but this year Mistress Anne is taking
advantage of the my switch-hitting abilities. :-)

Looking forward to meeting new members and renewing acquaintance with
old friends under Mistress Anne's wonderful leadership, I am at your
service,

Hello my friends.
It's almost pennsic time. I hope you're practicing! (*hint*)

If you need anything else from me before we actually see each other at choir
practice, please be sure to contact me before Thursday. Starting Thursday,
my traveling begins. See you at troll!

Also, someone suggested that it might be helpful to point to CDs where some
of our program has been recorded. Good idea. This should not be construed
as a commercial endorsement, but if you like renaissance music, here's some
ideas.

Both "O Sing Joyfully" and "Exultate Deo" is on the recording by Voices of
Ascension, "Beyond Chant - Mysteries of the Renaissance." And this also
happens to be one of my most favorite CDs ever.

"Now is the month of maying" is on a recording of the Cambridge Singers/John
Rutter, "Flora gave me fairest flowers"

Amazon seems to show a handful of recordings that include "Angelus ad
pastores" (Hassler) from which I grabbed the Alleluia, but I don't know any
of them to recommend. I'm sure I've got tons of christmas recordings that
must include the "Psallite Unigenito," but not are currently making
themselves obvious. Likewise for "Pastime"

And I doubt that there are any recording so "Fertur" - our performance may
be relatively unique.

So, 3 recommendations out of 7 pieces. It may help some. See you at the
war.
Anne.

Yea, verily!  You will recognize this one at a distance by the hideous pink cover.  Don't let that put you off.  A better "best hits of the renaissance" recording cannot be easily found.  If any of our fellow Christmas-concert-at-Pennsic veterans are on the list, you'll find my pet Sweelinck "Hodie" on that CD as well.

Hey, me too!!

One of my most amazing Pennsic experiences ever was the concert we
did in which the barn was converted into Chartres Cathedral by the
architecture guild...we did that 24-part canon, remember? I'll never
forget it, because I was on the first part (and loved every minute of
it). (I still have the sheet music...what an amazing work!)

There was a lovely blonde lady from Settmour Swamp whose husband
taped the whole thing, and said she'd make a copy for me, and damned
if I didn't lose touch with her. Anyone think they can help with
that?

The Known World Choir at Pennsic was WONDERFUL. Vivat to MIstress
Anne and all of the singers!! You did a wonderful job and the
concert was wonderful. I am very proud of each and every one of you.
I found Jocelyn's brother at war and will soon be in touch with
her. And I SURE do remember the Chartreuse Cathedral Concert.
I am putting together a little history about the Known World
Choir, since, to my knowledge it originated as a Pennsic thing and
now it has grown to other major interKingdom Events.
I Hope that next year is ever bigger and better at
Pennsic.......and John will have to order a bigger tent!!!

Plans are being made for Pennsic 34, Lillies 2005, Gulf Wars 2005
and Estrella 2005. If there are any interested people out there for
taking on the position of Director, please let me know!! I have had
some bites.........but I would really like to get things in place as
soon as possible, while the energy is HOT!!

Pictures would be nice also.......if anyone has shots of concerts
past of the Known World Choir........PLEASE put them up!!

I Hope that all your travels home went well!!

Well, it's ALMOST official.
There will be a Known World Choir at the War of the Lillies in
Calontir in June of 2005.
I am in negotiations now with the Autocrat........
SO, in my start of negotiations........I will need a choir and a
Director! AHAH.
Now is the time perhaps for people in the Mid, Calontir, Meridies,
Outlands to forward the news to local lists..... and help start the
ball rolling.
Again, this year's KWC at Pennsic was wonderful. I assure you
that next year's program and director will be part of a year NOT to
be missed!
Thank you again Mistress Anne for your time and dedication in
keeping the Known World Choir going..........it keeps my dream alive.

A good evening to you all.

I want to thank all of you who participated in the Pennsic choir this year.  What a wonderful sound you created!   I realize you who sing are not in a position to really get the full effect of the power of 65 voices, but the audience and I had quite a treat.

You all did great.   I know for some of you, this was old familiar stuff, or “easy.”  Others of you were stretching your knowledge significantly.  But all your capabilities melded.  What an accomplishment.   I am very proud of our joint success, and perhaps even a little stunned by the wonderful comments some of you have made to me.  Thank you.

Alas, our videographer, Baron Marcellus of Ponte Alto, had a battery running low during the concert.  He did NOT have enough battery to get much of us.  So he saved the battery to the end and capture the end of the Alleluia.  As it turns out, he had a hair more battery left, and he was able to get all the "thank yous" at the end of the concert too.  The thank yous (especially Princess Rachel's) were cool - but the music is BETTER!

The battery issue was probably “just as well” because of the size of the resulting files.  HUGE.  I'm posting the music one on the web page:  http://www.ravenstreet.org/kwchoir.htm   BUT BE WARNED !!! This file is 54 meg.  Before you download it, make sure you have room for it, and I suggest that if you DON’T have high speed internet access, just don’t bother.  I tried zipping it, but the change was negligible, so I chose not to complicate this further.  If you have any other problems with the files, I really am NOT the person to ask, so you’re on your own.

If anyone else got the performance recorded, PLEASE let me know.  I could have sworn I saw someone else back there with a video camera.

I’m also planning to review the tapes I made during practices, to see if anything is worth also posting as a wav on the web page.  So, more may yet follow.

Again, thanks for your hard work, attention, and GREAT performance.

With affection,

Anne.

2nd round: A piece that varies in style or mood from the first round

Greetings to the list. I am Na'arah bat Avraham from the Barony of
Darkwood in the Kingdom of the West. Since I saw other
introductions posted earlier, I thought I should post mine. While
I've been in the SCA for a long time, I'm heading to my first
Estrella. And singing with the KWC is on the top of my list of
things to do. Currently I'm the Choir Minion for our new Baronial
Choir, and I've sung on and off in choirs, synagogues, and bardic
whatevers for most of my life. Looking forward to meeting some of
you next month.

In Service,

Lady Na'arah bat Avraham
