for some who might remember, my dear husband would drive me around in his "Zaxi"
in the rain or when I was stumbling around.
   He was a special man.
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. I am numb right now, but I wanted
to get this obituary passed out. I am hoping that you will pass it on to other
lists.
He had friends all over the SCA.

My home home address is
Maria Eskinazi
3210 Leeward Drive
Haverstraw, NY 10927
I am not really taking phone calls right now. :(

MY Laurel Deonna von Achen and very good friend is putting together some music.
I would like Tau Pauperum Refugium sung at his service on Monday morning. On
the outside chance that anyone would be there, and knows it, or could read it
well enough, just post to this list and Deonna will see it. You can also
contact my dear friend Isabeau d'Orleans at Lady_Lark_Azure@.... she is
my apprentice sister.

in tears

Erlan

G. Scott Eskinazi, age 42 Haverstraw, NY
G. Scott Eskinazi passed from this life into the next on July 8th, 2009. Scott
was born in Bronx, NY on Feb 20th 1967 and moved to North Rockland in the
1970's. Scott was recently married to his beloved Maria Daggett on October 6th
2006.
Scott graduated from North Rockland High School in 1985. He was employed by
Con-Edison and then Entergy for 21 years. He attained the position of Senior
Nuclear Technician at Indian Point Energy Center, Buchannan, NY.
Scott was a dear friend to many people. He generously gave his time each holiday
season as Santa for hospitals, civic groups and his favorite – The Haverstraw
Elks of which he was a proud member.
At IPEC Scott has helped run a blood drive every 56 days for the past 10 years.
He felt that was an important job and was proud being involved. He encouraged
everyone he met to help save a life and donate blood.
In his alternate persona as "Lord Zachary Wolfhunter" he was an active member of
the Society for Creative Anachronism, an education and historical organization
for recreating the middle ages. "Zach" was loved and respected by Kings and
Queens, peasants and Knights. His skills with a bow and arrow were legendary. He
loved the life he lived with his Renaissance friends and Household. He was
everything a good man could be. He lived by the laws of chivalry.
Scott and Maria were married for less than three years however in that time they
had the fairy tale life and they shared the gift of true love. He adored and
cherished his wife, family and friends and would do anything for them. Scott
was a dedicated son who did above and beyond for his father Benny and mother
Gwendolyn. He was loved and cherished by anyone who met him. Scott had a
physical and inner strength that was untested and unchallenged and he gave that
strength to any friend who needed it.
Scott is survived by his beloved wife Maria (nee Dagget), his parents Benny and
Gwendolyn, of Thiells, NY, his brother Christopher and fiancé Kristen Gabrionne,
his God Daughter Molly Daggett and many nieces, nephews, cousins and family.

Hoof and horn, hoof and horn
All that dies shall be reborn
Vine and grain, vine and grain
All that falls shall rise again
Ye shall meet again, and ye shall know, and love again

From this life into the next, I will love you always – Your beloved Angel.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution directly to his favorite charities may do
so in Scott's memory.

Did not want to post this to the list just now, with respect for the condolences
for Erlan and her family currently coming in. It just does not feel appropriate
at the moment.

Practicing (learning) the music and had a couple of questions about Ave maris
stella. Not sure I understand "(do - c oder f)". The introductory church mode
with its four staff lines--is that bottom line C, and are the B and E flats, as
in the rest of the piece? (It seems to my ear they are.) And what is the time
signature for the piece? Just so you know, I do learn my part (alto) by
listening to the mp3s and playing them on piano (do not really play, but know
enough to bang them out to learn).

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Ave starts in Gregorian chant and moves to Bflat but retains the Gregorian method of no time signature and appears to have eight counts to the modern measure.  The better idea is to download the sheet music and practice according to the midis and/or the MP3s and you'll have it down in a week.  Arianna has provided pronunciation guides on. line.  All the best.

Firstly, I wish to apologize for referring to you as Arianna of Huffington. I have been justly and fairly chastened. In my own defence, I am out of Eriu (Ireland to you folks) and I never know what the damn Susnach is about.

As to the loss of Erlan's lord, do you feel it would be appropriate to dedicate the concert to his memory? Just a thought.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Lady Erlan's loss. My thoughts are with her, her household and her family.

As has already been mentioned, Erlan was last year's Pennsic Choir director, but more than that, she has been the guiding light behind the Pennsic Choir and the Known World Choirs for well over a decade.

Maria, please let us know if there will be any organized donations in Lady Erlan's husband's name. I would be happy to contribute.

Will you mayhap be in this years Choir at Pennsic?

Erlan was planning on attending Pennsic - but that was before her world changed so very radically and suddenly.

Given her involvement in the Choir - it might be  a nice gesture - or add a piece for that specific reason.

They say that dying is not a tragedy. Dying young is a tragedy. And losing a loved one at so young an age is tragic and leaves a deep hole in ones heart.

Seeing music selections such as Ave Maris Stella are wonderful and I pray you can find solace in singing such wonderful works. I wish my own church sang Tallis, Byrd, Victoria, Bruckner, and all the greats that composed music that sometimes allow us momentarily to transcend this mortal realm. I have found chanting, especially in a small brick chapel can cause one to almost resonate with God. May your sympathetic vibrations still resonate with the spirit of Zach. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and may the perpetual light shine upon him.

Resquiat in pace.

I will not be at Pennsic this year. I just can't. It's too much for me to do
this year.

This is the obituary if you'd like to read it. I wrote it.
A few choir members who live locally will be singing "Tau Pauperum Refugium" by
Josquin. at the Celebration of life on monday morning.

The obit has information on where the Funeral home is, times and what are zach's

Thanks for the suggestion, Murchadha.

Unfortunately, we don't have time to add any new pieces to the concert list and learn them between now and Pennsic, but I appreciate the thought, Mairghreicc..

I have some ideas about ways in which the Pennsic Choir can, as a group, show Lady Erlan our love and support in this sad time, but rather than discuss them on the list, I'd like to talk with the Pennsic Choir at the War so we can decide in person what people would like to do. Anyone who would like to join in the discussions but who isn't singing with the choir this year, please feel free to stop in at our rehearsal on Sunday, August 2nd at 3:00. We can talk about it then.

Hi,

Looking forward to meeting all of you. This is my first big event, so got my
schedule all figured out...there's plenty of room to breathe and eat. Boy,
there's lots to do at Pennsic.

I just pringted off the sheet music for Pennsic Choir and some of the pages
didn't print the staff lines. Did anyone else have that problem? Funny that it's
only for some lines.

I use a MacBook and Cannon Pixma IP 3000 printer. Doubt that could be the
problem, though.

Only 12 more days!!

Can any one tell me how to copy (if it can be done) the sheet music on my thumb-drive. I have attempted to copy the music in a file but to no avail. The good news is, I can bring up the PDF files and make the required hard copies.

Any help that anyone might render will be appreciated.

BTW, nice selection. I sing in liturgicla choirs and this stuff is familiar to me.

See you all soon at Pennsic.

It has been CRAZY getting ready for Pennsic that I know I will not know the
music as well as most of you for this I ask forgiveness. Mp3 went nuts and I
had trouble downloading but finally did get it. I was asked to help with
retaining for our majesties of Trimaris and I am sewing for people to gain a
little bit of money for the trip!! Does this sound familiar to you? But I
will be there and I have a feeling our crowns will be at the performance so
this makes me nervous. OH and you know the old saying if you do use it you
loose it? Well my vocalizations are not where they should be!! So I am off
all dairy!! I still am so looking forward to meeting all of you and I think
there is another Trimarian for you to deal with other than me so there!!

Cameron, are you getting an error message when you try to download the files?

A couple of weeks ago Mistress Gwendolyn posted detailed directions on how to access the files from the Yahoo Group site. You can read the steps here: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/KWChoir/message/1262

Steve, she included info on how to get the MP3 files into iTunes, if that helps you.

If those steps don't work for you, I have some of the files on my personal website, so you can also try accessing them there. It's at http://sites.google.com/site/pennsicchoir/Home. From this site, you can either click to open the files and then select "Save As" or you can do the right-click on each link and select "Save Target As" from the pop-up menu in Windows.

Please let me know that this helps or not!

In short - GOOD LUCK

This will be the first year EVER that I will NOT be present at the Pennsic CHoir.

It is KILLING ME

But .... I have some thing else I need to do here in my mundane world that keeps me from war.

I have been going to Pennsic since 12.

If I wasn't singing in the choir, I was directing or being co-ordinator.

I expect someone to get some video clips, or something so that I can "see it" from home.

I had to go through some folders to find some paperwork yesterday and I came accross a stack of christmas cards from Zach to me. One of them was from 2004. There were reindeer on the cover holding caroling folders. On each folder he had written in red pan
KWC
On the little flag that was next to the choir of reindeer he had written "KWC World Tour"
and on the back of the reindeer director he had written "Erlan"

My husband knew how important this Choir is to me and how I have spent time, money, hours of preparation and everything... to keep it going.

It hurts me not to even be there to listen to the result this year.

Please, enjoy yourselves, ATTEND REHEARSALS!! and give Mistress Arianna your very BEST. The director works very hard in preparation to give you something wonderful and you are very very lucky to have this opportunity.

Safe travels to war and know that I will be here in my home, thinking of you and wishing that I could be there (with my husband).

Thank you for the flowers, the cards and the e mails.

I will get a chance to respond personally to everyone, I just haven't yet.....but I will.

The flowers are here with me, at my parent's house where I am staying. The basket is beautiful by the way!!!!!!

In service

If Known World Choir does not completely fill your desire to sing
period songs at Pennsic, please join us for the annual Drinking and
Singing walk! We gather to run through a few period drinking songs
and rounds, then head off among the camps trading our music for
drinks. Such drinks are usually of the alcoholic variety, but we have
sung for teetotalers as well. If you would like to join in, please
meet us on Monday of War Week at Camp Crook'd Cat in E02 on the Strand
at dusk. If you have questions, please contact me.

Tegwen, I'm sorry you're having trouble printing the sheet music, you must be very frustrated. Are you able to open the PDF files and view them? When you try to print them, are they printing incorrectly or just not printing at all? You might want to update your Adobe Reader at www.adobe.com...

Given the appreciation for Gregorian chant I thought I would risk censure by letting people know that the Church Music Association of America is having a Fall Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC September 25-26. It will be a chance to sing and practice chant. Most of the events will be up Harewood Road from the Shrine at the JPII Institute but there will be a Mass in the Extraordinary Form or as it is better known, the Tridentine Mass, at the end of the second day. Scott Turkington is teaching. He was a student of Dr Ted Maurier who taught at Catholic U and as I remember was involved with choirs including those singing with the Boston Symphony, as well as working with the monastery at Solemnse. He was a wonderful teacher and happy man who dedicated his life to chant. Scott is pretty chipper himself come to that.

You don't have to be a Catholic or even religious to attend. We are trying to keep alive the traditions and continuity with our medieval and renaissance ancestors.

One thing to double check: on a PDF, it must be printed from the print
button on the PDF, not the usual file button. I tend to hate computer
"icons," (not Period icons), because often it is hard to figure out

Steve,

go to the file you want, do not open, but right click on your mouse button and go to save file as, a screen will open, go to address bar click on a clear space with in you will see all of you computer from Docs. hard drives and your flash drive.  Click on your flash drive and in the lower right hand corner where it says save, and there you have it.

Hi all..

Steve Saxe - a choir member- here, and "lurker" in the SCA and things Pennsic.

Hello, all -

I don't have past messages at-hand -- could you remind me when the major
performance is? My husband will have his portable recording equipment with
him at war, and if he is available, he would likely be willing to record the
audio. (www.bardwire.com) Let me know!

We will all be thinking of you at Pennsic, Erlan, and knowing that your
heart is with us as our hearts are with you.

I have arranged for a friend to videotape this year's concert for us. If
someone has access to more professional audio and is willing to record the
concert for listening purposes, that would be wonderful, but at the least we
will have a video camera running.

Hi Ygraine!

The performance is Thursday, August 6th at 6 pm in the Performing Arts Pavilion. If your husband is willing to record it for us, that would be wonderful! I would be happy to pay for tapes, etc.

You should be able to right click on the file and "save target as" and browse to the thumb drive to save it there under whatever file name you like. Perhaps I'm oversimplifying, though...

Unfortunately, the Pennsic Choir has been at 6 pm on Thursday for years, maybe decades, and we can't do much about conflicts. It's Pennsic. :-(

After trying all the tricks and suggestions, I was able to print all the music... Without the music staffs.

I'll just buy the music at Pennsic, and I'm sorry for the trouble. I -am- still listening to the mp3s to familiarize myself.

One thing to double check: on a PDF, it must be printed from the print

- Thursday, August 6, 1:00 - 3:00 pm, dress rehearsal, PA Pavilion
- Thursday, August 6, 6:00 pm - CONCERT, PA Pavilon

FOR THE CONCERT:

- Please wear clean garb in good condition. It doesn't have to be fancy or any particular period, style or color, but it should be something reasonably nice, and not so warm it will make you faint in the heat!
- Please, no large hats or hoop skirts. It's going to be crowded on stage with well over 60 of us!
- Do not eat or drink dairy products for at least one hour before the concert to avoid having "gunk" in your throat
- Please arrive at 5:30 pm so we can get everyone lined up in order and warm up
- Bring your black binder with the music in concert order
- Bring your enthusiasm and a smile!
- Invite your family, your friends, your barons, your liege lords and ladies, your retainers, and your royalty to attend!

RECORDINGS

Mistress Ts'vee'a bas Tseepora Levi of AEthelmearc will be videotaping the concert for us with a camcorder loaned by Sir Magariki Katsuichi no Koredono of AEthelmearc, and I expect we'll post the video online after Pennsic, possibly on YouTube. Master Li Kung Lo of the East has graciously agreed to record audio from our dress rehearsal (where we can avoid audience noise, among other things) so that we can have good quality audio files for a CD after the concert. I'll let people know when those are available and what the cost will be. Thanks to all of these good gentles for their assistance!

SHAMELESS PLUG

If you can't get enough of choral music at Pennsic, I hope you'll consider attending the concert my baronial group, the Debatable Choir, is presenting on Monday, August 3, at 7:30 pm in the PA Pavilion. Our theme this year is music about dancing, including Thomas Tomkins' contribution to Morley's Triumphs of Oriana, "See, See the Shepherds' Queen".

Happy sewing and packing, and safe journeys to everyone!

Arianna
