Tessa,

I'm so sorry aout that.  I've been waiting to see if I got more requests because I haven't printed the booklets yet and the cost per booklet was based on a pretty large volume. I didn't realize you were unable to print the music from the website and thought you just wanted to get a bound copy so it looked nice, which is why I waited.

I will go ahead and print up a booklet for you and get it out in the next day or two.  My apologies.

Greetings!

I have been anxious to receive my music, which I sent for in the mail quite
a while ago. Now that my printer has taken a vacation, I am becoming
desperate. I will not be able to attend all rehearsals, so it is essential
that I learn my part ahead of time. Please check on this and advise.

Thanks,

Hi, all!

For those planning to sing with the KWC at Pennsic, I am passing along the following message from Baroness Gwendolyn the Graceful, who is coordinating the Performing Arts schedule this year:

The Pennsic Choir uses the PA tent more than any other single group, so if you are available and willing to lend a hand, please do!  I plan to help with set up, but of course more hands will make lighter work.

Thanks!

Arianna

---------------------------------

I'd like to take this opportunity to let everyone
know that setup will now be on Tuesday, August 8. I am
not sure what time - probably afternoon. If anyone
will be onsite that early and is available to help, we
would greatly appreciate it.

Strike is also a bit earlier than originally planned.
The Known World Players' Performance begins at 8, not
9, on Friday, August 18, and we will strike as soon as
the show is over, probably about 10:00 PM. Again,
anyone who can help, please, the more hands we have,
the more quickly we can break everything down and pack
up the trailer for next Pennsic.

Also, if you know anyone who is interested in helping
to serve as a house manager for any afternoon or
evening, please direct them to me! We are always happy
to welcome volunteers.
Gwen

Bruce,

I'm Frida, I posted back in April that I'm coming down to the
Lillies war from Northshield. I've been getting the KWChoir list
for awhile now and never saw a sign up announcement for parts or
anything like that. Also there has never been an annoucement of
when practices will be during the war. The Lillies website is, as a
Calontir friend put it, woefully inaccurate, and I would like to get
the info from the source.

I am a mezzo/soprano II but can also sing alto I if necessary. Is
there still room? Sorry, I'm not bringing any tenors or basses with
me from Korsvag, as we are woefully lacking in the gentlemen
department.

When are rehearsals going to be? I won't be arriving at site until
the evening of the 13th. Is that too late? If so, that's fine too,
I'll come watch your concert.

Thanks,
Frida fra Korsvag

Greetings, Frida!

There seem to be some discrepancies between the RUSH schedule (where rehearsals are listed) and the general schedule (where rehearsals are also listed).  I am fixing this issue with the relevant parties even as we speak.

However, I can say that rehearsals are two hours daily, from Wednsday 6/14 through Saturday 6/17, with performance on Saturday 6/17.

As soon as the scheduling problem is fixed, I'll let everyone know.

Thanks!

As Co-ordinator the Known World Choir, it's my responsibility to make sure that all the directors have what they need, and all the potential singers get what they need. There are a small number of people who volunteer to help... the directors, helpers, section leaders.....take care of everything and I trust them, love them, cherish them and give them all the help and support they ask for.........
SO this is your JUNE THANK YOU....for all you volunteer to do!!
Lillies is in just a few weeks ............you are all going to be part of something really wonderful........the first time that the KWC is making an appearance at Lillies.............this is so very exciting for me!!!

Master Brice--- good luck on your first KWC experience... and you have a wonderful support staff out there in Calontir.

Thank you all for your hard work.
You are all volunteers (me too) and you are greatly appreciated!!

Be well everyone,

Hello All-

Lilies will soon be upon us- the link to the schedule showing
rehearsals is
http://www.calontir.sca.org/lilieswar/lilieswar.php?
primary=schedule&secondary=none

Rehearsal will be from 11:30-1:30 Wednesday-Friday and 10;00-12:00
Saturday. Performance Saturday evening before court.

I am still woefully short of Tenors/Basses. This practice does NOT
interfere with much if any of the fighting, so there is no excuse!
(I fight too) Ladies, strong arm your Lords into coming- they will
be glad they did!

See you at the War!

Brice

Hello,

This is the first year I'll be participating in the Pennsic Choir.
I'm excited already!

I noticed on the schedule that the day of our concert we have a dress
rehearsal a few hours beforehand. My question is what we should wear
for the dress rehearsal and concert.

I can't wait for August!

You can wear whatever you want.

It's only a "dress" rehearsal in the sense of being the final run-through before the concert.  I do not have a preference regarding what kind of clothing you wear for the concert, except that it would be nice if it were reasonably period, clean and neat.  "Court" dress is not a requirement, though I certainly wouldn't want to discourage people who wish to dress up for the concert.

My own choice of clothing will probably depend at least partly on the quantity of heat and precipitation on that day. :-)

This is an evil/ugly email worm that appears to be targeting Yahoo's new
groups email format. I recommend that the moderator(s) turn
*attachments *OFF* so that if another one does get here, it can't be
propagated from here.

In case you see this first **DON"T** open the other one. I'd also
recommend that the moderators delete it from the message archives to
prevent it from happening in the future.

Hi folks, this is the second time I've tried to post this message
today. Here's hoping this one goes through.

As Jerusha explained, DO NOT OPEN the emails coming through the KWC
site labeled "New Graphic Site."

They are some sort of new virus attack and have been wreaking havoc
with email. They are coming through from other sources, not just the
KWC Yahoo Group, and they are not being caught by any of the usual
Virus protection so BE CAREFUL and do not open ANY of these messages.

Regarding Jerusha's suggestion, I am a moderator and do not have
privileges to block attachments or make changes of that sort to the
group, but I have emailed Lady Erlan, who is the list owner, and asked
her to make those changes as soon as possible.

I have also reported the problem to Yahoo.

Arianna,
I'll switch. I don't believe I had joined yet when you made that request. Since I've just started looking at the music, it shouldn't be as difficult for me to switch as it would for those who have been working on the music for awhile already....and besides, I've discovered my range isn't as high as it used to be! Unto the fantastic musicians of the KWC come warm (and exhausted)
greetings from Brice Le Raton, the lucky conductor of the first
annual Lilies Known World Choir.

I want to thank everyone who participated this year in our
performance. Despite some setbacks with performance times and
venues, we were able to accomplish our first performance on Saturday
evening with 20 fantastic singers and put on great show.

Everyone did a great job dealing with the challenges that came up.
The first challenge that came up was a common one. On Wednesday
when I got to the war and we had our first rehearsals, we had 1
bass. Yep, just one. So, in the hopes that we would get a few
more, we went over the treble parts and I had to seriously revaluate
what I wanted to perform. Fortunately, the anchor pieces for the
concert were the Kyrie and Sanctus from the Byrd Mass for 3 voices,
so we were OK with a few more basses there. But the 4 part Arcadelt
and Morley pieces were right out…. Panic time for Brice!

I had thrown my back out about 3 weeks prior to the war. (This ended
up working out for the best, sort of) Since I live close enough to
day trip and sleeping on the ground would probably have left me
wishing I were dead, I was going home every night. So Wednesday
night I went home and selected 2 & 3-part music to replace those
pieces, and Thursday lo and behold, I had FIVE basses (really,
really GREAT ones too) come to rehearsal. (Still no tenors
though).

Thursday, Friday and Saturday we had some outstanding and fun
rehearsals, culminating with a performance at the Barony of
Forgotten Sea party Saturday night following the Fireworks show. I
had great apprehensions about performing outside by torchlight, but
it all worked out OK. After we started singing, people started
coming from all over to listen, and we got wonderful audience
response. Several people asked us if we had a recording… go
figure.

The final program ended up:

Ah, Robyn - Wm. Corynsh
Four Arms, Two Necks, One Wreathing – Thomas Weelkes
Je' Nos et Tre Content – Certon (2 part chanson for women's voice
w/recorders doubling)
Kyrie – Mass for 3 Voices - Byrd
Sanctus – Mass for 3 Voices – Byrd

Not the 6 pieces I had planned on originally, but still a solid
program and a wonderful performance.

We learned some lessons about doing the KWC at Lilies this year.
First lesson is not to depend on the scheduling whims of the Crown.
We were originally scheduled to perform prior to main Court on
Saturday, but the various permutations of weather and Crown whims
demolished that plan. Next year we will have a separate time in the
afternoon that will not be dependent on last minute changes to court
plans.

We will also get music out sooner and have things broken out into
rehearsal parts as well.

I am excited about next year! I think we are off to a great start
and will do even bigger and better things in the future.

BTW, for anyone coming to the Kris Kinder Event in December in the
Barony of Forgotten Sea, Calontir (Kansas City), I will be putting
together our annual yuletide performance again this year. I will be
posting music for that here on the KWC site for anyone interested.

Yours in service to music in the known world.

There might be pictures, but then again, there might not.  (I took no photos.)

It was a dark and stormy night; we were singing by flashlight and incinetron light on a windswept peninsula.  So we sang upwind, to let the wind carry the sound to most listeners.

We got plenty of applause, and public thanks from Baron Trevor.  But the best comment I heard was from one of several instrumentalists performing at Lilies, who was camped more than 100 yards away...

Constantia said, "At first, I heard the music and thought, "Who the heck's got their CD player going?"  Then I listened closer and had to come right over!  This is so cool!!"

(And congratulations to Constantia, soon to become a member of the Order of the Laurel!)

Is it too late to register for this year? If not,
while I usually do tenor, I can switch to alto (or
soprano and occasionally bass.) with no problem. At
times I've read more than one part in a single peice.

Tenor is ok, too.  We can always use more tenors.  :-)

Just go to the Pennsic website under A & S and select the Pennsic Choir, then click on the link for online registration.

Erlan,

Yep, I'm planning on doing it again next year, but better. It was an
amazing good time (for me at least, and I hope for everyone else) and
next year we will even have better performance conditions (i.e., not
outdoors by torchlight in a stiff wind- very period, but not the most
condusive of conditions for choral performance :-)

I look forward to seeing everyone back next year and meeting more of
