Anne - just wondering if your site was ready with information for
those interested in the Known World Choir at Pennsic? Music,
registration info, that sort of thing, rehearsal schedule?????
Also..for those who sang in "Music from the Court of Vlad the
Impaler" in last year's (2003) choir, AND you are planning on
attending the Coronation of the K & Q of the EAST in April in New
Jersey, there is a request to sing the "Te Deum" that we performed at
EK Court AND at the Concert. Please let me know if you're interested!
The director for that day is Isabeau d'Orleans, director of
the "Tropes" a vocal group from the Shire of the Rusted Woodlands.
Erlan Nordenskald
Director Emeritus
Mistress Anne,
I have been having problems with emails to you bouncing.. can you send me a test
email? Some got lost in the ether I think too.

Hello all
List has been quite, but I know that soon it will be bubbling with
information on rehearsals, music and the like.
I will be out of town from Feb 19 - 28th, just in case anyone
needed me for anything. I'll try to check in from time to time.
Happy Winter.
Erlan
Now that you mention it, I could use a little help. Do you know of a recording
of the Te Deum that we could use as a rehearsal tape for new singers for the EK
Coronation?
Thanks.

Svea,
When's your next practice? I know it pretty well. I don't think the
last concert got taped.
Siobhan
Svea
I"M not around for a few days yet, but Siobhan KNOWS
it very well, i'm sure she canhelp. I have to chec
and see if I have a recording, dont think so, I will
make a noteworthy version of it when I get back to
cold NY.
Also, Lady Isabeau does it a tad bit
differetly...she uses a later Latin, not a big
adjustment, and she has her own inturpretation of the
neumes, also, not a big deal, easily adjusted. She
will do the same section that we did for the concert
and EK court last year.
i'll be back in a few days.

Hey there
I"m back from Florida, it was a great trip. My parents are always
glad to see me.
OK, regarding the Te Deum
1) I DO have a recording of the Westminster Abbey Choir, it's a
decent recording. I will attempt to put this in the files section.
2) I have larynghittis. or however you spell it, VERY bad. I
started to get sick during the week, sneezing and coughing and after
I got off the plane on Saturday.........forget it, I have NO voice.
So I won't be much help to ANYONE singing or even talking for a few
days, which of course means that for Bardic, I will not be competing
this year. So, you all are safe.........no need to worry <grin>
THe Tropes will be rehearsing on Monday night in Oakland NJ on March
8th and 22nd and Perhaps on the 29th as well. I will check with
Isabeau on the schedule for Coronation, I believe that she will
gather people together before the first Court to rehearse the piece.
Performance time is only about 4 minutes if you only do it
once.....tee hee
Erlan
We just shifted our domain service to a new provider over
the weekend, so if you’ve been having any trouble getting hold of me, it
should probably be better now. We knew it was really getting bad when
Tirloch didn’t get any BOD traffic for two weeks.
One word of warning: I had a really nice “registration”
form done and tested a couple weeks ago. Alas, I don’t have the
frontpage extensions right yet with this new provider. So don’t try
doing that “Registration” thing yet. If you want, you can
always just email me the same info.
AND if you find any typos of problems, please don’t hesitate
to let me know. This is a lot of music to get uploaded, and I’m
sure I’ve got some mistakes in there someplace. And it’s
still not pretty yet, but THAT is a lower priority.
Oh…how ungrateful of me: Thanks go to all of you
who gave me suggestions and make music “requests” for the program. J
I checked out the program.......nice pieces, good choice of music. I
was so surprised to see the Josqin on there........<grin> Ave Maria,
Siobhan's choice.....how about that. (erlan is being silly)
I miss singing in a group........I am so tempted to just throw that
armour out the window and go ahead and sing instead of all the other
stuff that I volunteerd to do at war since I wans't directing the
choir.......(rumor has it that erlan actually aggreed to be on STAFF
for Pennsic this year.....but that is still just a nasty rumor)
I will be teaching 2 classes on the music of Saloman Rossi however.
OK, enough commenting........REMEMBER TO JOIN THE CHOIR AND LEARN THE
MUSIC AND SING WITH ANNE
Lady Erlan Nordenskald, Director Emeritas
Oooh ooh, will attendees be allowed to sightread some Rossi music in your
classes, Erlan? Even in my synagogue choir I've never gotten to sing any
Rossi! I feel like it's a huge hole in both my choral and Jewish experience!

WIll you get to sing some, but of course.......that's
the fun of it.
The class will be a very brief history of the
composer, some religious implications of being an
Italian and Jewish in the Renaissance and then some
nifty pieces of music will be read through. I have a
few madrigals picked and a few psalms, sort of in
Latin and also with Hebrew lines of text, it's kinda
neat.
Just let ol' Erlan fill out that hole, call me a
hole filler!!...

for anyone joinging the Tropes in singing the Te Deum at the
Coronation of Kelson and Geneviere in April, here is a recording that
you might be able to use to practice. Lady Isabeau takes a few
liberties with text and rhythm, but it's pretty much there.
erlan
Erlan, did you attach a midi file? I didn't get it.

entertainment!! VIVAT to both, but special VIVAT's to Siobhan, who
deserves every honor bestowed on her!! - Erlan
This is the announcement that is going out to the PIke staff for the
May and June editions. Please free to pass it on to your local East

Announcing the Formation of the East Kingdom Chorale
The primary goal of this group will be to research and prepare music
for Court and other Royal events that are historically accurate and
to include members from all over the East Kingdom of the SCA. Each
local shire/barony/canton/group is encouraged to participate and
educate the musically inclined members so that we can gather the day
of an event and rehearse and perform.
Autocrats that are interested in including period performance to
their day that is tailored to the theme of the event are encouraged
to contact Erlan! Local directors and musicians are encouraged to
contact Erlan!

SINGERS--------
For any one singing the Te Deum with the Tropes at Coronatio
(EAST K-April 3)
Lady Issabeau has planned an 11AM rehearsal. We are most likely
singing it at the Noon Court. There will be a sign at Troll with more
specifics.
Hope that helps your plans.
Rehearse well
Erlan
Hi, Erlan.
Down here in Barren Sands we are having a breweing A&S meeting on Sunday the
28th and we are planning to rehearse a bit there. After the brewing. Hmm. I
don't know if that is a good idea, but we'll give it a try. B.S. may have as
many as 5 singers for you(A,A,T,B,B). If we survive the brewing, of course.

Um..after the brewing? Sound? Us? Let's just say you better rehearse us
REALLY HARD on Saturday. Oh, and does the Te Deum have a page two?
That's what we need: a fake book. We fake things a LOT.

HAHAH, yeah, i'm SURE that you had a WONDERFUL time doing that
brewing thing........ OK here's the thing, Lady Issabeau is using
the EXACT same music that I used for KWC this summer, so it's only
the first page. She is rehearsing., not I, so, .....you wll have
the most wonderous experience of another director, I will be singing
amongst you all for the day...... (ok, i'm slumming it) AND GOING TO
THOUROUGHLY ENJOY IT>
she has a unique arrangement that includes some voices singing a few
lines with organum.......that is using a drone voice singing a
perfect 4th or perfect 5th below (depeinding on the male/female
element)
You'll get it,
It's not too stressful
i'll be there
don't worry
erlan will make it all OK........well, that might require a nice Oak
aged Ciser......yes in fact I"m sure of it..........OK, DONE.
we drink mead if things don't sound good. And we will fake singing
the Te Deum.....yes, it is written

I mean, Te Deum
I first would like to thank EVERYONE who pitched in for that
roaring 17 seconds of music at Coronation. I was satisfied, were
you? well, you can't control Show Biz.
I had a good time and it was very nice seeing people again - hope
we can do it again soon........
remember, this list is for comments as well as information, and
it's also for requests.........
by the way........hows the Pennsic KWC going?????
How's Pennsic KWC going? I'm glad you asked that! The web site has been up
for quite a while now: http://www.ravenstreet.org/kwchoir.htm
And this web site is linked from the Pennsic site also.
I've had 11 people send me "registrations" - all sopranos and altos. (Though
some of the Altos say they can hit a tenor line.)
Please feel free - in fact, PLEASE - send this link around to other likely
lists. Distribute it within your kingdoms! I think we've got a great
program planned and it should be a lot of fun! As always, WE NEED MEN!
By the way, who is going to be at Aethlemarc war practice? As it turns out,
I'll be going. (Pennsic planning meetings coincide, and my other half,
Master Tirloch, will be attending.) Anyone want to sing some? (i.e.,
practice some of this program?)
So...what was the "rest of the story" from your 17 seconds? What happened?
Anne.

Hello Anne
and
every one else!!
I encourage ALL of you to pass around the KWC Pennsic
link.... and I ALWAYS encourage people to join..!!
OH, well, you know how Court goes, it starts late, too
much going on, and music always gets pushed to the
last thing of importance.
We practiced one piece for a while during the early
part of the day, I can't really call it "rehearsing"
because we really just "went through it" with little
direction...
We got together to sing at the foot of the stage,
Our new King and Queen and entourage processed in,
they seemed to really dig the Chant, we got about 4
phrases in.... (approx 17 seconds) AND, our director
of the day, pulled the hand together and we all
stopped. ....... I am NOT sure why she stopped us,
even though they had reached the stage, I guessed that
we'd, uh, at least finish to the point we practiced it
was only about a minute + of music............
SO we stopped....and I gasped......and, uh, we left
the stage......VERY ODD,
well, that's Erlan's take any way..........
I do things differently, but, it was fun, it was an
experience, it was......well, what it was...........
and above all, i think it was funny, we sort of just,
stopped......LOL........
well, anyway..........
JOIN PENNSIC CHOIR!!!!!!!!!!!!
i say that a lot, don't I??
peace,
