Well everyone, the East kingdom CHorale had an interesting rehearsal
at War of the Roses..... not many in attendance however what
troupers. It was windy, it was cold...it was Memorial Day
weekend...it was sunny, it was cloudy, it was cold....but yet they
came and sang and gave it their all.
Unfortunately there were not enough voices to actually perform
the concert, however that did not stop the musicians there at War of
the Roses.......for the voices got together with other musicians and
we strategically put together a pre-court concert with Period
music...to include recorders.....voices and violin.
Mistress Deonna van Achen was trememdously amazing in pulling out
music at the drop of a hat, filling in as tenor and alto AT THE SAME
TIME.... (grin) and it came together.

Thank you to everyone who participated, your willingness to
participate and ability to be flexable was much appreciated. I hope
that more impromptu music will happen, more EKCHorale will happen and
in general, more period appropriate music to augment the Courts and
events of our East Kingdom.

Well, the Barren Sands people will mostly be around. Except Gilbert, our most
reliable note-reading baritone. The problem is that some of us (read pretty
much all of us) have other duties since it is our own little war. Maida's the
autocrat. Genevieve is Exchequer so she is coping with Troll. I'm teaching.
William is Seneschal...We're around. It is just a matter of when you can grab
us away to sing.

I've heard of starving musicians, but this is ridiculous. Blue

ps- on a more constructive note, if all members of this list check to see
who've we've been getting spam from individually we might be able to
identify whose address book has gotten highjacked (if indeed it's the source
of this contamination). Erlan, you could also modifiy the "who can post"
settings for the group. Sad that we've getting junk mail on the list. I get
enough of my own, and yes I'm going to check my recent junk, too, since I
had some weird mail (bouncebacks on mail I never sent)

Sorry about all the spam lately......I"ve tried to stop it before
most of you read the lists.......
What might help.......is if when you sign up for your

list know about your musical interests........
Just to let you know.....if a person remains on the list who does
not fill out the profile or let me know that you're ligitimate, I
might have to limit or restrict the posts.....
Perhaps just until this spam-a-thon is over.........

Hello – I just sent this message privately to the people who had contacted me about Pennsic choir.  Sorry if you now get this twice, but communication is usually a good thing.   Anne.

Greetings to the members of the Pennsic Choir!

I have just updated our choir web page, adding our roster of names with part assignments. (Don’t worry – I’m not publishing your email addresses, just SCA names)  Please look at it, and let me know if there are any problems with how I have you assigned.

http://www.ravenstreet.org/kwchoir.htm

I’m excited to see so many of you who are interested in singing with us. Welcome! But:

PLEASE go recruit basses!  We have one.  We need a lot more to make this music program good.

Also on my wish-for list is an accompanist for rehearsals.  Arianna of Wynthrope is very graciously providing us with a keyboard.  Having someone who can play better then me (I can only do one line at a time!) would be a great help. Any volunteers?

I realize it may have been quite a while now since some of you emailed me with your registration information. I really haven’t ignored you – I’ve just had a few too many things going on. (We had an unexpected remodeling job going on at the house, which certainly ate up more time this spring that I would have liked.)  But as I went through my archive of email to pull out the registration info, I realized there were some questions I should have answered.  If the web page hasn’t answered your questions, please contact me again, and I promise to reply quicker.

Finally, if you are not aware, there is a yahoo-group set up for choir information.  I believe you can get added to the list by going to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KWChoir/

See you at the War!

Anne of Carthew

Greetings List members all!

I have sent out a plea to the members of the SCA bards and
AEthelmearc bards lists to try and gather some basses.

And just a brief introduction, although I know I'll meet you all at
War. . .
I am a Celtic bard from the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands in
the kingdom of AEthelmearc. As a bard I sing a lot of ballads. . .
you know, the sad love song types. I used to sing in a variety of
choirs and choruses in highschool and college, and I'm looking
forward to participating in the Known World Choir.

A few years ago......I made these laminated posters,
actually a choir member did them for me.....and I
posted them up all over the place
Erlan needs men
or something like that......
and I got a lot of results.
of course most of them thought I was a fighter putting
together a unit........but I did get a few men out of
it.
Oh and one year, part of our war payment was 2 tenors,
yes I am serious. Norseland hired other fighters for
our unit and WE were getting paid, and part of that
payment were 2 men. One of them was also to carry my
things up from the Bog to the rehearsal tent.
I just thought that was funny and wanted to share
that with you.

Also, Ann ----if you're in a bind, I can come and play
some rehearsals for you. Recorder or keyboard, just
let me know!

Hello, I saw one introduction in the group, and thinking it would be nice
to sort of meet more people before we meet I though I'd introduce myself
next.

Hello, I am a member of Markland, so I'm not technically in the SCA like
I'm sure most or all of you are. However, I think the SCA is great. I am
a student at The College of New Jersey where I am president of our
medieval organization, Order of the Golden Lion. I was last years Royal
Bard of Markland and you may have heard me heralding for us last Pennsic
(I have a very high-pitched voice, and seemed to get Markland some strange
attention). I sing in a church choir and TCNJ's college chorale.
Previously I have been in high school choirs, and TCNJ's other two choral
groups. That's about it. See you at Pennsic!

first year directing and am excited about singing again. [Anyone who
can wear full late period in 90+ degree heat with 90+% huminity in a

I have a question about the music for Pensic. I have been assigned
the A/T line in the Pasttime with Good Company. Music logic would
have this as the middle line of music. But this is a song written by
a man for I would suspect men to sing so could this be the top line
of music.

Sorry for the stupid question.

Continuing to look at the music. I love to sing in Latin. On the Ave
Maria, the alto line seems rather high. (I think I strained something
trying to sing it this morning.) Could the alto and soprano lines be
switched?

I've been lurking in the hopes I might attend this year. Unfortunately,
no. It comes down to a new harp or Pennsic. With any luck, I can

So, in an attempt to vicariously experience at least a part of

Catherine,

The second line in Pasttime is the Alto/Tenor line. Be aware that the
treble clef has that little subscript 8 in it, so the line is actually
an octave down from what is written. I had a brief moment of panic
before I noticed that myself. :)

Catherine,

The alto line in Ave Maria is actually an octave below what is written
in the PDF, although it isn't annotated there. I have another copy of
the piece where this is clear. The alto MIDI file is in the correct
octave, though.

Please don't strain your voice!! :)

Nope - you can't "purchase" a thing. The music is on-line now.

Well, I still intend to play with the Ave to make it less pages, and there
are some flats in this edition of the Batten which I really don't like and
need to take out. But the program is at:

Pennsic...what is the program? Could I purchase a copy of the music
for our local South Downs Chorusters?

Hello, Everyone!

My name's Megan O'Connor (Mairghread inghean ui Chonchobhair, sorry
my name's so long, I realized it was the only one that took up two
lines, but I tried to do a direct translation. ^_^;; ), I live in
Daphne, AL (Osprey) and go to college in New Orleans (Axemoor).
This will be my first Pennsic, and I'm very excited to be
participating in this choir. I haven't sung with the SCA before,
but have sung in choir competitions in Latin and German in grade
school, junior high, and high school. So far I'm having a lot of
fun learning the music. I look forward to meeting and singing with
you all!

Greetings, I currently sing with my local Barony choir and the Northshield Choir. I have been singing in various SCA groups for about the last 25 years. I was twice Queen of the Middle Kingdom but now I sing and cook and shop and keep track of my 2 teenage children. I camp with Duke Talymar and Mistress Melisande next to the Mid-Realm royal encampment. I am excited to be singing with the Known World Choir--music is my true delight.0

Hey there........I wish you could be there also....I KNOW that
you'd be a big help to Mistress Anne, I've mentioned that you
are always a HUGE help to me.....and of course your strong alto
will be missed. By the way, I think I still have the slide
whistle......

You should really start thinking about Gulf Wars....and being
a contact / organizer for 2005. I know that there is some
interest bouncing around.......I would REALLY like to see a
KWC@GulfWars...................

Hi Vitha!

The choir web page is here:

There is a link to "Parts" where you can look up your part assignments
for each piece; you're in there, so take a look!
