Thanks for sharing this video. I wanted to hear that beautiful kamancheh and you did an excellent job! I like the shape of the bowl (kaseh) on that kamancheh and have it in mind so if I make a kamancheh, I'll use that shape! It's very unique.

Peyman

That's great! I missed his concerts in the US and wanted to see his kamancheh playing.
That looks like the "karamkhani" kamancheh that Ostad Bahari played. Mr. Shirazi, instrument maker, tried to make a similar kamancheh. I might have posted the link before but here it is again:

I suggest you try to get to a computer that has explorer, safari, or firefox browser.
Did you get the document I sent you directly ?

Hello , I have heard many different observations about the Dastgah from different people. Here is one idea : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-s4SIRU7W4

Dear all,
I have a question referring the dastgah-e shur which might perhaps seem amateurish to you. But I would appreciate your help. Once I heard that this dastgah is associated with a noble mind and a mature personality but at the same time also with new beginning and spring time. I would like to ask how the
idea of the first two terms matches the idea of new beginning. In the CD booklet of Ostad Majid Kianis "Haft-Dastgah-e Musighi-e Iran" I read that the dastgah-e shur is related to the dusk, the start of creation, new birth, continuation of life as well as to the struggle, the search and the yearning for spiritual enlightenment. Is this enlightenment seen as a new creation or in which way is it associated with the genesis?

Do you know if there are any references cited on the cd? I am just curious to know if this is something that Mr. Kiani came up with or if there is an academic basis to these claims (such as psychology, musicology, history etc). I have seen and heard him talk about these ideas about Dastgah music on TV. I also read an article about one of his lectures. He is a great master of Santoor but his ideas about the Dastgah seem too "creative."

Peyman

Abolhassan Khan Eghbal, one of the most influential singers of Persian classical music, has some records with the famous Armenian legendary of Kamanche monsieur Haik. I can’t specify the exactly date of the record, but I guess it should be around 1930 or this is an realier record.
In such records you hear Eghbal singing differently using
Aserbaijanian words and ornaments. The record which I published in the following page is in the mode Bayat-e Qajar in Azerbaijanian music or in mode Bayat-e Tork in Persian music.
the organizer Dr. Saeed Rezai Afshar informed me of the upcoming Germany tour by the Kamkars Ensemble ( www.kamkars.net ). Zelli is definitive one of the most brilliant technical singers of the history of Persian classical music in Pahlavi era.
There are really a few records of him. I guess maybe altogether 10 records. I publishes in the past the Abu’ata mode record and sooner or later the others.
Today I digitized the Chahargah mode and I hope you will enjoy it.

from Nov. 17th - 25th Iman Vaziri (tar), Mohammad Motamedi (vocal), Ehsan Zabihifar (kamancha), Ali Rahimi (tombak) will be touring in France and the Netherlands.
