Well, well, well....Now I know what all the "talk's" have been about. I
finally met Susy and Steve last night, not to mention Tabatha. Was really nice
to
meet the "names" I've seen so often and to put a face to them. I had a great
time last night - My buddy (Don) was there and we had the opportunity to sing
a duet as well as a few solos. Don did a wonderful job, as usual. The girls
even got a chance to "shake a leg" or two.

Then we got a chance to "toast" to friendship and meeting new people with
some green glowing stuff in a laboratory tube. Yikes. Susy and Toto made me
feel comfortable enough last night, I felt like Jerry Lewis playing Jekyl & Hyde
(and almost as goofy) after the second green glowing thing.

And then there's Toto........well can't say enough (good) stuff about him.
What a guy. I've enjoyed meeting you all! I missed seeing Charla though -
wish you were there.

Mo's - Thursday - June 5th - Karaoke with Cathy the KJ from 8 until midnight
(at least). Would enjoy toasting, I mean meeting some of the other names I
see so often on here.

See you there

Cin

What a night at Chums. Toto got there too early I guess. I ha to settle
with sitting at a table with a bevy of beauties. Can't say it was a bad
experience as the conversations were most stimulating. Everything from do
blondes have
more fun to nuclear physics to names for pets. And no blondes don't have more
fun....... bald ol' men do!

Cin, Don..... Great to see and hear you guys last night. Oh, Cin. After a
little more thought........ the leg iron thing might not work, that'll give ya
one more chance to get me on stage <EG> And thank you for singing w/ me LOL
We did a song Buddy Holy and the Crickets style! Too much fun! I don't
remember the tittle.

What the heck was those drinks? This is the first time toto has had a
hangover in years. And here I thought I was a he-man. Oh well, so much for
ego's.
Charla Charla Charla we did/do miss ya. You and your songs would have rounded
out a perfect night. What about Jim folks...still have to admire the Merle
Haggard singer.

Oh my goodness, Ksbubbles!!! THAT is what my next trivia question was going
to be! I was in my truck last night, driving to Chum's for karaoke, when that
subject crossed my mind. I knew I'd never remember it if I didn't write it
down. So..... only having a fast food napkin to write on, that was scribbled on
it! Great minds think alike, then, right?! (Say RIGHT!) LOL

Okay group! This question's a bit more of a stretch for the brain cells. By
the way, thank you, Ksbubbles, for an EXCELLENT trivia question! : ) : ) :
) Feel free to send more additional questions when you think of them.

Susy
P.S. To define a bit more clearly: The artist's re-release must have made it
to the charts.

How about the remake of I Will Always Love You? Done first by Dolly Parton
in the movie "Best Little WhoreHouse in Texas", then later on remade as a
duet by Dolly P & Vince Gill. Of course, I don't have to mention the Whitney
Houston version that came in between the two mentioned above...

Jello everyone, I am now living in Manhattan, Kansas. And I did
download a bunch of "Richard Cheese". Really funny stuff!!!!A lil'
off the subject but..............Caroline(from Lawrence)and I don't
get along anymore because she is upset that I did not pay enuff
attention to her while I went on my "drug binge"! Apparently, if your
life turns upside down, whether you can control it or not, you have
got to give Caroline or Jennifer credit for being there or helping or
your life ain't SHIT!!!!! So much for the social-work
superheroes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You bitches SUCK!!!!!!!! You may help some
chump-change kids along the way...but I know who you really are and
what your really about!!!!! And if you forgot...then I made it my
mission to let every native know the truth about you bastards...I
know what "Bullshitters" you are! You claim to help people , but you
can't even be honest with the people you talk to!!!!!!!!!! You think
a loaf of bread & a block of cheese will win you some love! Only for
a lil' while, you dumb mutha-fucka's!!!!! Consider me your worst
enemy...because of "Caroline" I will do my all to show you guys for
what you really are...a bunch of rascist, "KKK", wannabe people!!!
People with children who care more about there own feelings than then
the people they roll their eyes at at places like "Bubba's" in
LAWRENCE. IF your not perfect like (Caroline, Jennifer, Or Allen)
then you get the look of disapproval)! I wish I could be as perfect
as you bitches!!!! All 3 of you!!!!! I thought you understood where I
was coming from, Allen, but until your rude ass presentation at
the "Foosball" table then I realized that you were being a punk-ass
bitch! Please take offense to that, because ain't no one scared of
your ass!!!!!!! Cut my head off, mutha-fucka,not only will it not be
the hardest fight you ever had; but I will be glad to send your sorry-
ass to "life-in-prison" you stupid bitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am the man you love to hate ... and I will put all of your wills to
the test!!!!!
And to "Kay-us", I don't know why you won't answer me, but I
will find you to find out out why! I am still giving the benefit of
the doubt! But I must admit...I am starting to wonder now! You have
had plenty of time to answer me as a friend!!! But, if that is not
good enough for you then you can owe me $10.00 bucks the next time I
see you! And I will collect as your enemy, rather than your friend,
if you don't respect me enuff to tell me "Hi"! Then you give me no
choice but to "DEMAND JUSTICE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If all of you want to hate me then at least tell me why!!! Cause I
can make a call to Wyandotte County and...well, just keep
underestimating me, because your probably right...I ain't SHIT...and
I don't know nobody...you ignorant mutha-fuckas!!!!(You hope)!

Hey, as for Richard Cheese, have heard him played on 98.9 a number

Oh, and on the subject of multiple hits, the list is almost
endless. The formula has been for years to go grab an old #1 hit
and rerelease it. You figure, once a good song always a good song
and most younger folk do not seek out the older music so I find they
THINK these songs are NEW!

One more recent addition that I didn't notice mentioned is Uncle
Kracker's cover of Doby Grey's Drift Away.

Suzy,

If I understand correctly, you are asking for example of when an
artist re-releases their OWN song in a different style and it makes it up
the charts. Very interesting question.

There are a lot of examples of "acoustic versions" or "concert / live
versions" of songs that would probably fall into this category. I think
this has been popularized over the last few years with shows like MTV
Unplugged and radio promo studio sessions that many bands do while touring
that then get a lot of local air play. All of them good for the industry
and show that some of these singers and musicians can actually perform
without screaming into a mic or a heavily mixed instrumentals.

I think the two you've mentioned are probably the best known examples of
this. Now I'm gonna have to go and do some searching to find some more
examples.

Greetings and Well Met Fellow Bardic Adventurers-

Yes, I blinkingly exeunt from my caves tot he harsh moonlight once
again. After a much needed respite I sallied forth (yes I still sally)
and visted Fair ALdy Heather at Rumous Pub Sunday Nihgt. I think Sunday
nights at Rumours have become as popular as some Friday Nights at other
establishment. The evening's rotation was about 15 singers until around
10 o'clock, then that number awelled to about 20. 26 if you include the
group of Hooligans that did the Final Finale to the tune of "You Never
Call Me by My Name." That group of hooligans would be.....ummmm I guess
my group.....The LakeHouse Pub Crew.

The singers were awesome. Cassie who has sung at many places has been
making Rumours her home base for Sunday Nights. She sang some awesome
KT Oslin Songs such as "Do Ya' and "Boomerang". Bill wowed us with
several versions of Colin Rae songs which I forget right now. Russ, who
I ahve known for 2 years and never heard sung, did Elvis like he was
the King. I closed my eyes and listened and by Golly! He sounded like
The King.

Other happenings last night? Greg, another of my LakeHouse Crew, was
dancing with all the damsels and they were squealing as he flipped them
(yes I said that right, he flipped htem) ala 50s Happy Days Sock Hop.
It must have been good as there was a vertble line to be flipped by him.

So until next time, keep your blades sharp and your voices keen.

Welcome back, O missed Dragonslayer! Enjoyed hearing your recount of your Sunday
night karaoke venture! Me thinks you should inquire about obtaining some
'moonglasses' for that condition you expounded upon. OR.... another solution
would be MORE ventures out to karaoke establishments of a more timely basis!
With that said, hope to see you around for rabble-rousing and singing soon!

Stevie B should be posting this, but he's been away from the computer lately.
However, he said the hit by Elton John: Candle In The Wind. There was the
original time it came out; then when he re-released it to fit Princess Diana's
death.

Ok I think the song you might be thinking of Rhonda is I Swear done by All

I am doing two remakes right now one is Sweet Music Man from Kenny Rogers
redone by Reba McEntire and Don't Be Cruel done by Elvis redone by the Judds.
Conway Twitty also did a bunch of remakes also. One being Slow Hand from the
Pointer Sisters.

An additional question that pops to mind are times when
the same identical song has become a hit more than once
...like the Twist charting twice two years apart, or Rock
Around the Clock getting boosted by American Graffiti,
or became a hit long after its original release.

I think most of these will have come by the songs being
used in popular movies and being introduced to wider or
sometimes completely different audiences. One of my
favorite songs is Get Together by the Youngbloods. This
song hardly got noticed (hit #67 when released in 1967) until years
later it was featured in ads for Brotherhood Week in 1969 where it
was used as background music for their radio and TV spots without
even telling the Youngbloods. After a week or so of this exposure,
the song took off eventually became a #1 hit for them.

Another favorite of mine, Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce has a
similar story. Apparently, the song was not even "polished" by the
records producers because they thought no one would ever hear it.
It was selected as the theme song for a TV movie aired in 1973
called "She Lives" about a woman dying of cancer. The day after the
movie aired the record company was swamped with orders. It was
subsequently released as a single and hit #1 on the charts.
