Re: Temperature & Bicycles

Hi Rajiv,

As you said, Daytime highs vary from year to year but usually follow the pattern
of the prior week or so. In general, the cooler years have highs in the mid to
upper 80's. The Hot years have highs that can be well into the 100's. But
always clear except for a hight fog in some years (call it clouds) that burn off
by 10:00 am.

The nights are quite pleasant, but cool. I'd say that lows are usually in the
low 50's or mid 40's. When I'm out and about on the site around 4:30 AM I
usually wear a medium weight jacket over a sweater. It's comfortable for
sleeping. In terms of the hours up to midnight when most folks are at the
mainstage, you almost invariably will want to trade your shorts in for long
pants and get some long sleves on over the T-shirt. Some years that's enough.
In other years you'll want to add another layer or two. It's also quite dark at
night. I know that may sound foolish, but if you're used to city or suburbs you
may not be used to how dark it can get out in the country away from the light
pollution of developed areas.

Some folks bring bikes but not many. The crew and staff use bikes to some
degree, but not that many attendees do. Not really needed unless you decide to
camp at the farthest part of the camping area (that's where quiet camp is).
From that location it's about a 15 to 20 minute level walk to the event area at
a moderate walking pace. Roadways are dirt/gravel so a mountain bike would not
have a problem but it might be a bit rough for a touring bike with skinny tires.

Hope that helps

Dan

there's no telling with Northern California weather but the photos all seem to
indicate 75-80+ in the day time. Night time is less clear.
