It's been awhile since I've tried to look for Kurzweil help resources. I
could've sworn there were some troubleshooting lists somewhere, but I can't
remember where. I really did look through all my manuals and couldn't find
anything.
Can someone tell me what kinds of things would cause a sound to be
distorted?
I created a new piano program on my K2VX and saved it in a .KRZ file along
with its dependent keymap and RAM samples. If there's nothing else in RAM,
this program works fine. The samples are not over-recorded.
But if I load my standard "performance bank" (which also works fine), and
then load this new sound using Fill (which is what I eventually want to do
so I can integrate it into the performance bank and save that whole thing),
it comes out horribly distorted.
There just seems to be some sort of conflict or corruption in RAM. Could the
Kurzweil be confused because of duplicate sample names? I ask this only
because one time I loaded a sample called A4 when there was already one with
the same name in RAM, and got distortion, and when I deleted both and then
reloaded just one, the problem went away.
Actually this brings up a larger question that's been bothering me for a
long time: how does the Kurz associate objects to their dependents?
I've never understood how one can use the "fill" mode when loading objects.
It seems to me that program banks I've created have to be carefully planned,
like drums in positions 200-210, basses in 211-220, pianos in 221-230, etc.
(to leave room for adding new ones later on without disturbing the positions
of the old ones). And it seems that when I load them from external storage,
I would ALWAYS want them to go back into the same position number (using
Append), rather than just the first empty slot (Fill).
Why? Because my Songs and Setups use those programs (as dependent objects),
and if they get loaded someplace different, I would think the Songs and
Setups wouldn't be able to find them! Then I'd have to go back through every
Song and Setup and adjust them so they can find the programs in their
locations. Prohibitively tedious.
So I can't imagine ever using "fill", except as decribed above.
(For that matter, I would expect that Programs would have the same issue
locating their dependent keymaps, Keymaps locating their dependent samples,
and so forth.)
I guess that's two questions. Am I missing something obvious? Any wisdom
anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ted
