Hi David,
you are right concerning the above mentioned 'gear'. I would never pay a cent
for a kick drum made from a washing machine front panel based CD ROM.. When I
bought my K2000 4 years ago I wanted the ability to simulate all sorts of
instruments with that. Then I found out the real worth of my K. That there were
people who sampled 'real instruments' I would never get a hand on - all the
different grand pianos
like Steinway,Schimmel,Bluethner,Yamaha etc.)where I couldn't afford a single
one of., or Hammonds and synths etc.
And therefore I'm willing to pay the due. And if I had the chance to buy the raw
samples without the programing on a CD to do the programming by myself I would
do so because with most AKAI CD's you have to do it anyway.
And then the costs for CD-ROM sounds should be in a range which is affordable
for hobby-musicians too.
I'm really glad about the opportunities I have today with HD recording, my Kurz
and all the quite 'cheap' plugin stuff, which was available only for
professionals 10 years ago. I'm able to produce my own music on CD with very
good results (for me) but for some small areas (CD-ROM's in this case) it is
still expensive to get a hand on
(Vitous is the most popular example for that).
