If sampling in the studio, I sometimes use the mixer/audio card
combo. I'm doing some try with the K itself, whose inputs have a very
pleasant, warm and full sound.
When sampling around, I get my portable DAT with a pair of cheap
consumer mics, or my heavy, battery-powered CAD E-100.

I don't like the idea my sound can be compressed, whatever good the
compression can be. So, I don't use Minidiscs.
