Monday, that's tomorrow, Promising Young Talent will be playing a free show at
Zebulon in Williamsburg.  It's on Wythe between N. 3rd and Metropolitan.  PYT is
on at 11 but the music starts at 9 so get there early!  there are many tasty
drinks and refreshing snacks and things written in french all over the place, so
dont forget your pocket Larousse.

team in washington, is taking a break from politics to play a show at
pete's candy store in brooklyn on wednesday the 12th of november.
secret service agents have confirmed that 930 is the time.

man, the oscar parties were out of control last night, that little girl from atonement was crazy!  and javier bardem's mom was dancing on the tables.  john travolta's spray-on hair/wig/bathing cap was freaking everybody out. but daniel day lewis is a classy, classy dude.

well, LEVY is finishing up the UK leg of their tour next week with a couple of London dates and heading for what the world used to call "The Continent" for a bunch of European shows, check the show schedule on myspace and dont miss them in your town.  im talking to YOU, belgium!

in the meantime, theyre going to be on John Kennedy's Xfm radio show monday night the 28th of January.  The show starts at 10 pm London time (5 pm NYC time, other locations, im sure you can figure it out--i cant do ALL the work for you) and if youre in the broadcasting area you can listen at 104.9 fm.  If you arent so fortunate you can happily listen online.  just direct your browser to www.xfm.co.uk and theres a little button up at the top left of the page that says "LISTEN TO XFM"  simply click there and voila'!  LEVY on Xfm.

on december 4th, 1959 a monkey returned to earth safely after being launched into orbit 55 miles high by the united states space program.  to put that into a little bit of perspective, we live in the troposphere, within about 7 miles of the earth's surface. after that comes the stratosphere, which goes about 29 miles above the earth's surface.  that damn monkey was literally out of this world.  

48 years later, celebrate a monkey's return to earth with a show by YVEL.  The show's at 930 at the living room right here in new york city.

the old cock of Barcelos

Once upon a time in Barcelos, a small town in the north of Portugal, a man was to be hanged for a crime he did not commit.

He swore his innocence but found no alibi to prove the truth of his affirmations.

Under a sudden impulse of faith, he appealed to his patron Saint, St. James, for divine protection, and he pleaded to be released from the injustice of his sentence.

He then asked to be allowed to enter into the presence of the Judge. As this was to be his last wish, the Judge received him in his dining room where he was having a meal.

Once again, the man under sentence of death swore his innocence, and in sudden defiance to Providence he declared that the roasted cock which lay on a tray on the Judge's table would stand up and crow if his statements were really true.

The rooster immediately jumped up from the tray and crowed vigorously.

The Judge, with much public acclaim and ceremony, made him a free man.

As this legend has passed from generation to generation through the centuries, the Cock of Barcelos has become a symbol of faith, justice and good luck.

the pages in my recipe book must have been stuck together like that
time on "friends" when rachel combined the recipes for trifle and
shepherd's pie.

luckily, this mistake isnt quite so gross.
