Hello Land'o'Lakes District,
As we prepare to support our succesful and talented singers in Anaheim next
week, we can also be looking toward future success.  Our district-wide emphasis
on Youth-In-Harmony is awesome, and we are creating new opportunities for young
singers regularly.
Part of that initiative is the Wisconsin Harmonic.  The Harmonic is a youth
chorus for singers in Wisconsin, and it is taking off.  Since I began talking to
all of you via e-mail and at the Spring Convention, excitement seems to be
growing daily.  Thank you so much!
We are now ready to accept singers into the new program.  We have selected
music, and a timeline is emerging that will see us compete at the 2010 Midwinter
Youth Festival in Tampa, FL.  We may even be able to reward your support with a
debut performance at district convention.
To get singers into the group, I ask that you forward one of the attached forms
to interested young people.  The group form is for quartets and choruses.  The
individual form is for lone singers looking for an opportunity.  Have singers
fill out the appropriate form and send it to ashleywyork@....
In addition, we are looking for potential sponsors.  We have selected three
pieces of music.  Two of the arrangements are publicly available.  One, however,
will require around $2.00 per singer.  Can you spare a few dollars to help our
young people get together?  You can contact ashleywyork@... if you are
interested in sponsoring one singer or one hundred.
The music we will be performing in Tamp includes "Down to the River to Pray",
"Midnight Rose", and "When Uncle Joe Plays a Rag On His Old Banjo." The
arrangement of "Uncle Joe" is available on the Barbershop Harmony Society's
website under "Get Music."  The other two arrangements will be sent to
performers when they sign up.
If you have any questions about the program, please feel free to ask me.
District support for this initiative has been overwhelming.  I have no doubt we
will continue gathering momentum.  Who else is excited at the prospect of 100
kids representing the Land'o'Lakes district in Tampa?
Thanks,
Ashley
