Softball Austin, Central Texas’ new GLBT league, is recruiting new players for the upcoming Spring season. All skill levels are needed, regardless of whether you’ve played softball all your life or you’ve never picked up a glove. All you need is the desire to play ball!
Softball Austin is hosting a recruitment drive on Field #5, Sunday, March 13, at 3 p.m. at the Krieg Softball Complex, located at 517 S. Pleasant Valley Road.
You can either join a team or form your own. The player registration fee is $20. Team registration is $350 and most teams have sponsors that cover the fee. The season will last 8-10 weeks.
Softball Austin plays on Sunday afternoons between 1-4 p.m. The season begins April 3.

Softball Austin’s mission is to offer the Central Texas gay/lesbian/bi-sexual/transgendered (GLTA) community, along with its straight alliances, the opportunity to experience and enjoy recreational softball in a competitive, inclusive and affirming environment. Softball Austin will organize, promote and support athletic, social, cultural or charitable activities to serve the following purposes:
- To be a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering amateur softball sports competition for all persons regardless of age, race, creed, religion, sex, national origin or sexual orientation, with special emphasis on participation of members of the GLTA community.
- To encourage the education and training in proper skills of athletics and good sportsmanship by promoting, organizing and conducting softball related-clinics, seminars and training courses.
- To promote, encourage and, when appropriate, financially support, sanctioned and conducted tournaments including an annual gay amateur softball championship known as the Gay World Series.
