ONE MILLION OR GENDER EQUITY
One Million for Gender Equity is a Women's History Month
collaboration between Girls for Gender Equity and Altar Magazine,
two social justice organizations in Brooklyn, NY committed to
providing women and girls with the opportunity to engage in fields
they have traditionally been denied access to such as media, sports,
film, and technology.
This fundraising campaign is intended to raise awareness of the
still-present inequalities between men and women while asking you to
give just $1 (or more if you like) to help us to continue the work
that we do.
One million concerned citizens donating one single dollar will
provide:
* Sports opportunities (basketball, soccer, and boxing) for girls in
low-income
neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Staten Island, and the Bronx
* Workshops for girls about reproductive justice, health and fitness,
nutrition, and HIV/AIDS
* Workshops on sexism, stereotypes, discrimination, and sexual
harassment for boys and girls in NYC public schools
* Self-defense programming for girls
* A social justice publication where women writers and artists have
a forum to publish their work
* Opportunities for women filmmakers to showcase their films
