Greetings,

[Oops! Please note the previous e-newsletter (10th December 2001)
should have been #37 but was mistakenly numbered #36].

It seems a while since the last newsletter, so our apologies for
that. However, aside from Christmas getting in the way, we have been
waiting for certain news items to be confirmed.
In the mean time we wanted to basically let you know we're still
alive and also say welcome to the new LENL subscribers that have
signed since the last newsletter.

2. LIVE ALBUM
================================
Following delays beyond Landmarq's control, we nevertheless hope the
new live CD will be released within the next month or so. Previous
newsletters have already detailed track listing, etc.; these are
stored at Landmarq's Yahoo!Groups website
(www.yahoogroups.com/group.landmarq) and also on the News
('Borderlines') pages of the Spiral Staircase.

================================
3. GOLDEN WEB AWARD
================================
'The Spiral Staircase' website has been seen fit to be presented with
a 'GOLDEN WEB AWARD' for 2001-2002 by the International Association
of Web Masters & Designers (http://www.goldenwebawards.com).
The website has also passed the 20,000 visits mark ('unique visits')
since November 1st 1999.

================================
4. DID WE FORGET SOMETHING?
================================
At close to 150 pages, the Landmarq website is one of the most
comprehensive and informative band websites on the web, with a huge
photo gallery, the complete biography, discography and lyrics plus a
bunch of other stuff that the others leave out or simply can't be
bothered with.
That said, if there is something else you'd like to see on the
website not already featured, please feel free to drop us a line. But
keep it clean, folks - no requests for those nude pictures of the
band at that all-night jaccuzi party, ok?!
(You might want to try the search facility on the Welcome page first
if you are looking for anything specific).

================================
1. ROTHERHAM ROCKS 2001 PHOTOS
================================
We now have the latest addition to the Landmarq Photo Gallery
collection on-line at 'The Spiral Staircase',
namely 'Rotherham Rocks 2001'. The pictures of Landmarq
in concert were taken by two different photographers, Tim Ellis
and Bob Smith, at the festival back in October this year.

================================
2. WHITCHURCH 2001 PHOTOS
================================
The above-mentioned Bob Smith has also sent us a number of his
pictures from Landmarq's gig earlier this year at the
Whitchurch Music Festival 2001. This collection has also now
been added to the Photo Gallery.

================================
3. LANDMARQ IN CHILE?
================================
Landmarq have had a tentative offer from the Chilean Prog-rock
association, ARPROCH, to play in the early part of next year
(January/February).
Juan C. Araneda wrote:
"...There is a Prog Festival under organisation (not fully
defined yet) in a city in the north of Chile and ARPROCH would
be in charge of the international guests.
So we immediately thought in Landmarq...".
No further details at the moment but we'll keep you informed.

================================
4. DAVE W. CORRECTION
================================
Drummer Dave Wagstaffe wanted to correct one or two facts from
our previous newsletter regarding his work with Ken Hensley. Dave
says:
"...I played on two tracks which were late additions as the album
had already been finished....the record label heard a couple of
Ken's old demos and insisted he re-record them and 'bung' them on
as well! I'm not aware if John Young is playing on any of the album,
though there are lots of different musicians, but he is doing the
video....along with Dave Kilminster, Andy Pyle and me..."

================================
1. STEVE LEIGH INTERVIEW
================================
We recently informed you of Lee Gaskins' on-line interview with Steve
Gee at Lees' own 'Progressive-Rock' website. Well, his latest
addition to the Landmarq section of the site is an interview with the
bands other Steve -- Steve Leigh, that is. Now on-line and very
interesting!
Check it out at http://progrock.homestead.com/Main.html

================================
2. DAVE WAGSTAFFE/KEN HENSLEY
================================
Following his Swedish rock festival gig for Uriah Heeps' Ken Hensley
earlier this year, drummer Dave has been asked to take the drum chair
for Kens new album, "Running Blind", due to be released in January
2002. There is also a proposed video and tour to support the albums
release which may possibly takeplace around March 2002, though no
details are confirmed at the time of writing.
Also appearing with Ken on the album are John Wetton (bass/vocals),
Dave Kilminster (guitar), John Young (keys) and Andy Pyle (bass).

================================
3. LANDMARQ POLL #2 (SO FAR...)
================================
Not surprisingly, the results from our Poll #2 ("If you label bands
or music, where would you place Landmarq?") are so far showing that
(shock, horror!) Landmarq are considered mostly as 'Progressive
Rock'. Hey, but we knew that, right?
The poll will be active for a little longer. You can still vote at
the Landmarq website.
Or view the results at:

1. NEW LANDMARQ FORUM
================================
We now have a forum linked directly to the Landmarq website for
anyone who cares to make comments for discussion relating to either
Landmarq, Prog-rock etc., music in general. Please take a look and
feel free to make an entry. There's no sign up and we'll only
moderate the forum against extremely bad language and inappropriate
material.

================================
2. PROGMETAL WEBSITE
================================
Bob Smith has contacted us to say he has added some photos from
Landmarq's recent show at Rotherham Rocks to his 'ProgMetal' website.
Some nice pics here. The site is at: http://www.progmetal.co.uk

================================
3. ROTHERHAM THANKS
================================
On the subject of Rotherham Rocks, we'd just like to say a big thank
you to all those who made it along to 'the gig'. It was nice to see
old friends and make new ones too. Thanks also to Martin, Jenny and
the rest of the CRS 'back-stage crew'.

================================
4. LEE GASKINS WEB INTERVIEWS
================================
Lee Gaskins is a talented artist and art tutor who has recently
started a Prog Rock site "...just for the love of progressive music.
It is a slowly forming long-term project that has over 30
biographies..." Lee is currently conducting email-interviews with
members of Landmarq; first up is Steve Gee. Others to follow soon.
Read the interview at Lee's site (also features his own artwork and
links to his other sites) at: http://progrock.homestead.com/Main.html

================================
5. THE DEEPEND
================================
Just a quick plug for the personal website of Landmarq bassist, Steve
Gee.
Called 'The Deepend', the site details slightly more of
Steve's 'stuff' than on the Landmarq website although current photos
and audio will be more familiar to visitors to Landmarq's site. It is
hoped to add more exclusive audio and photos in the future as the
site develops. There is also a Guestbook for anybody who'd like to
make a comment, talk bass or just say 'hi'.
'The Deepend' is at: http://www.bassesloaded.co.uk

1. ROTHERHAM ROCKS (Details)
================================
Just a reminder -- as if you didn't know! :) -- that Landmarq will be
appearing at the Classic Rock Society's annual weekend
festival, 'Rotherham Rocks'. Landmarq's set will take place on
Saturday 20th October 2001 at HERRINGTHORPE LEISURE CENTRE.
Included in the set is a re-working of 'Embrace' -- included on the
forthcoming live CD -- plus a preview from the next studio
album, 'Entertaining Angels'.
Also appearing with Landmarq will be Claire Hamill and her band 'Bud'
plus opening band 'Gabriel'. Tickets for this concert are £10.
Full details for the festival can also be found at the CRS website:
(http://www.birwood.demon.co.uk/crs.htm)

================================
2. ROTHERHAM ROCKS (HLC Directions)
================================
Directions to Herringthorpe Leisure Centre:
Leave M1 at junction 33 and take the Rotherham exit from roundabout
(Rotherway). At next roundabout (a few hundred metres) take second
exit (Signposted Bawtry). After about 3/4 mile, head straight through
the major traffic lights and on to the next roundabout (a further
mile). Take first exit from roundabout and follow road until it halts
at T-junction (about 1 mile). At T-junction, turn right and HLC is
immediately on the left. To enter car park, take next left and then
second entrance into the centre.

================================
3. LIVE ALBUM NEWS
================================
The second live album from Landmarq -- the sequel to 'Thunderstruck' -
- is looming ever closer. We now have a (likely) title of 'LIVE TOO'.
Of course, in the best traditions of 'creativity' (and fickle
musicians!!), this could change. :)

Drummer Dave Wagstaffe summed things up by saying:
"...In contrast to 'Thunderstruck', we wanted a simpler layout - not
the large collection of photos as before, but one live shot of each
member plus an overall band shot. I'm also pleased to say we have
another great picture for the cover.
In the same token, we toyed with various other titles that would be
appropriate but Steve Gee and I separately happened to come up with
the same thing - 'LIVE TOO'. Now that's a coincidence! Isn't there a
science to that?..."

================================
4. SCORE EXTRACTOR
================================
We received an email from Roman Yakimenko from Russia telling us of
his new midi/mp3 program in which, among the demos on the site, he
has featured the piano intro of Landmarq's track 'Lighthouse'.
Further details from Roman's website:
http://roman.binom.com/score_extractor

That's all for now.

================================
1. NEW WEBSITE POLL
================================
Question: 'If you label bands/music, where would you place Landmarq?'
This new Landmarq poll has been inspired by a long-standing bone of
contention between those who love to put labels on bands and music
and place them into categories and sub-categories ad infinitum - and
those who don't! This latest can of worms was opened by IQ
keyboardist Martin Orford in his recent article for 'The Vision Pit'
section of the Dutch Progressive Rock Page website
(www.dprp.vuurwerk.nl/index.html). There is now also a reply from
Alan Reed of Pallas.

So what about the Landmarq poll?
Well, we'd simply like you to tell us which category (if any) you
would place Landmarq. There are no right or wrong answers/categories -
  we're merely curious. Also, the earlier poll ('Have you seen
Landmarq...') is still active and is on the same page. Thanks for
voting.
(The polls are at 'The Spiral Staircase' website:
www.landmarq.f9.co.uk/welcome.htm)

================================
2. WHITCHURCH FESTIVAL 2001
================================
Thanks to all those who came along to see Landmarq at the Whitchurch
Festival 2001. Quite a few came over from France, Holland and
elsewhere (not to mention from around the UK!). It was good to see
you all and we appreciate the great comments after the show. No main
photo page for Whitchurch in the gallery at the moment, though one or
two people who were snapping away have said they will try to send us
any pics that they are happy with.
If you were there and have one or two photos of the band (on or off
stage), we'd love to see them and may even add them to the website.

================================
3. ARGUS - THE LOST RECORDINGS
================================
Independent label, Audio Archives, have released 'The Lost
Recordings' by early seventies blues-rock band Argus. These
recordings date from 1973. For those of you who may not read EVERY
single part of the Landmarq website(!), Argus was one of Landmarq
drummer Dave Wagstaffe's earlier groups which he formed with future
Paul Young/Q-Tips/Hackensack bassist, Mick Pearl, and guitarist Del
Watkins (Ben E King/Julian's Treatment). The band spent two years
playing rock clubs and universities around the UK and in particular,
received two very good reviews from TV/radio presenter Bob Harris
on 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' (BBCTV's top rock music programme of
the time). (Contact Dave for more info: mailto:dw@...)

================================
4. TRACYS GUEST APPEARANCES
================================
Singer Tracy Hitchings has been a busy lady over the last few months.
Apart from her sessions in Paris with French artiste, Betina Antony,
Tracy has guested on the latest CD by Bob Catley -- 'Middle Earth' --
which was produced by Gary Hughes of U.S. rock band 'Ten'.
To be released in the new year, and also featuring Tracy, is 'The
Hound Of The Baskervilles' - the latest project from Clive
Nolan/Oliver Wakeman which is narrated by well-known Brit actor,
Robert Powell.

================================
5. NEW ALBUM UPDATE
================================
New material for the next Landmarq studio album is coming together
slowly but surely and following further talks, it is now hoped for a
release early in the new year. In the meantime, there is a projected
release for part two of the live album for around November/December
of this year.

================================
6. WEBSITE FIXES
================================
A number of fixes have been made to Landmarq's website (search
engine, one or two broken links) but we're always glad to hear of any
problems and comments from visitors so that we can maintain
optimum 'browsability'.
The website's opening 'splash' (index.html) page has been changed to
a simple immediate re-direct page to the main 'home' (welcome.htm)
page following feedback received. Due to the large number of links
throughout the site, the 'index' page will be left for the time being.

That's all for now.

Cheers!

to be held in Chile, South America, and Landmarq have received an
invitation to appear. This is planned for later in the year in
November and although the finer details need to be worked out,
Landmarq certainly would be honoured to take part. More news when we
have it....

>>>>PLANET PROG<<<<
We had an email from Mark Krueger, presenter of his 'Planet Prog'
radio show on WMSE Milwaukee, to inform us he has played Landmarq on
the show recently. So here's a plug for Mark in return! 'Planet Prog'
is a weekly radio show playing progressive rock from around the
globe. Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, the show airs on radio
station 91.7FM WMSE, 9:00pm to 10:30pm (central) on Sundays. If 'out
of town', you can listen live over the internet at
http://www.wmse.org/listen.shtml.
The website is at http://planetprog.com.

Greetings,

>>>MORE 'BAJA' PHOTOS<<<
As promised, we now have on-line some very nice photos of Landmarq in
concert at 'Baja Prog 2001', courtesy of Linda Shulman. They have
been added as a separate webpage to the Baja Prog collection (Photo
Gallery). Linda has also kindly sent us a selection of shots
featuring some of the other artists who appeared at the festival.

>>>PROG-SUD 2001 (MARSEILLES, FRANCE)<<<
Following on from Baja Prog 2001, Landmarq have been invited to
headline on one of the days of the annual Prog-Sud Festival down in
Marseilles in the south of France. The festival takes place over
Friday and Saturday, the 8th and 9th of June. Prog-Sud is hosted
by 'Eclat' and (among others) appearing on the bill are Baja
hosts, 'Cast' and from Germany 'Sylvan'.

>>>WHITCHURCH FESTIVAL 2001 (UK)<<<
August 3/4/5 sees the return of the 'Whitchurch Music Festival' and
Landmarq have been invited to return. The band will perform on the
evening of Friday 3rd August. Also on the bill are 'The Cardiacs' and
opening the show will be 'Primitive Instinct'.

>>>LANDMARQ CD POLL<<<
We thought we'd just remind you that as a member of the Landmarq E-
News List (LENL) you are entitled to vote in any on-line polls
currently on the Landmarq/YahooGroups page.
The on-going poll is to vote for your favourite Landmarq CD (don't
worry if you have not heard them all). Sign in and vote at

>>>AUDIO PAGE PROBLEM?<<<
There appears to be a problem with the 'Audio' page at the moment.
This is being looked into and we apologise for any inconvenience. We
hope to resolve the problem and also have some additional audio files
for download a.s.a.p.
(Let us know any specific problems you may have encountered with the

Meanwhile (and by way of a reminder) there is also Hans van der

Greetings,

BAJA PROG 2001....
The photos are back from the lab and so the 'Baja Prog 2001' page is
now on-line in the 'Spiral Staircase' Photo Gallery (click on the
Baja poster). So far the pictures are of the band off-stage and
basically loungin' around. Many of the pics are also of various other
attendees at the festival. More pics, including the 'serious' stuff
of the band in-performance are still to come. Check it out! (Were you
there? Send us a photo or two. Details on the Baja Prog webpage).

LANDMARQ/DPRP....
After approximately three years of being hosted by our good friends,
the Dutch Progressive Rock Page, 'The Spiral Staircase' has struck
out on it's own. This was a purely administrative decision and
Landmarq would like to thank the folks at the DPRP for their past
support, fair-minded reviews and, of course, all the beer! Cheers,
guys! ;-).
'The Spiral Staircase' is at www.landmarq.net (There's a new
Guestbook, too!).

GFT/CYCLOPS....
Last newsletter we reported of Landmarq striking a deal with
GFT/Cyclops for distribution. This was for distribution of available
material only, although GFT were prepared to re-issue the currently
unavailable first two Landmarq CDs. However, the new Landmarq album
(presently being written) could not be financed by GFT. This deal was
almost completed, but not fully, when an alternative offer was made
which would be based on the release of a brand new Landmarq album and
would also include the eventual release of all other Landmarq
material. There is also the possibility of more frequent live shows.
Landmarq felt that, in order to secure some kind of future, this
alternative offer should be seriously considered. That is the current
situation and we hope to know more in the very near future.
Meanwhile, GFT/Cyclops have said they will continue to supply
available Landmarq material as before.

Cheers for now,

Landmarq

Greetings,

++++ MORE PROGDAY 2000 PHOTOS ++++
While in Baja recently, we met up again with photo person, Linda
Schulman, who handed us some pictures from Landmarq's set at ProgDay
2000. Some nice shots here, so check 'em out at the 'ProgDay 2000'
page on the website now at:
http://www.dprp.vuurwerk.nl/bands/landmarq/progday/progday.htm
(Note: We also hope to have a bunch of Lindas' pics included in
the 'BajaProg 2001' page which is currently being compiled and should
be on-line soon).

++++ TRACY'S PET DRAGON ++++
If you've visited Tracy's own website 'Tracy's World', you may have
seen, in her photo gallery, a small red creature alongside her. This
is her pet dragon.
We had a competition to find a name for the poor thing and can now
reveal the result:
It's 'DENNIS'. And the winner who came up with this is DAVID MILLER
(from UK) who said:
"I know it's not very imaginative but he just looks like a Dennis..."

Tracy would also like to mention a couple of other close-run
suggestions.
These were:
'Rasputin' (from Bill in Chicago who says, "... I LOVE your
voice...I'm your #1 fan in Chicago...") and
'Lucky' (from Pete S. who says, "His name's just got to be 'Lucky'.
Who wouldn't feel lucky to be by your side in those photos?")

++++ TRACY'S COMPETITION NOW CLOSED ++++

Tracy's competition to find a name for her pet dragon(?) was closed
on 31st January 2001. The winner and resulting name will be announced
soon. The prize is a rather >special< signed photograph of Tracy.

++++ NOBODY'S LAND ++++

We have added three photos of Tracy (by Franco Vassia) from Italian
music magazine 'Nobodys Land' to the 'Milano Collection' in the

The pictures were taken at last years Landmarq show in Milan (with
Jadis and Cast) and also used a feature on the gig plus an interview
with Tracy. The live CD ('Thunderstruck') also gets a nice review.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your contribution to the eGroup and some good questions.
We shall do our best to answer them right here.
(Your original email is included at the end of this reply).

>"First of all, when can we expect a new Landmarq studio album?"

We are certainly working towards a new studio album with a whole
bunch of new material that's being gradually brought together. We
have even played one brand new track live at our gig in Holland back
in November, called 'Entertaining Angels'.
Not having a major label (with major finance!) we must take things
one step at a time and, following numerous requests, we have been
trying to re-issue our first two CDs, 'Solitary Witness'
and 'Infinity Parade'. This we hope to do very soon.

>"Also, when will we see Part 2 of the live album?"

This is our next priority, though we are also hoping to add bonus
tracks to this which would mean more production time. Again, we hope
this will be as soon as possible.

>"I would also love to see Landmarq release a live video..."

A video certainly would be nice - and (if done properly) expensive!
Landmarq have discussed this in the past and it is something we would
like to do at some point in the future. Over to you Mr. Spielberg! ;-)

Thanks again, Jeff.
If anybody else would like to comment or send questions on this or
other Landmarq-related stuff, please do.

All the best from Landmarq.

Since Landmarq now has this official e-group, I thought that it was about
time to put some questions out there for the band.

First of all, when can we expect a new Landmarq studio album? It's been 2
years since "The Science of Coincidence" (although "Thunderstruck" filled
the gap nicely in 1999, giving us a chance to hear Tracy sing some of the
bands older material.) I'm really, really looking forward to hearing an
album of all new material from Landmarq, especially with the high standard
that was set with the previous studio album. Chances are that 2001 will be a
big year for prog releases, with new albums from Pendragon, Cairo, I.Q.,
Billy Sherwood, Iona, Arena, Shadowland, Nolan & Wakeman, Camel, Asia,
Marillion, etc., etc. A new Landmarq album would make it a perfect year!

Also, when will we see Part 2 of the live album? Has a release date been set
yet?

I would also love to see Landmarq release a live video, in fact I was
discussing this very matter with my friend Michelle recently. Those "prog"
fans here in the US don't really get the chance to see their favorite bands
live too often (understatement!), and about the only way that many of us get
to see these bands is via concert videos. Pendragon, Camel, and I.Q. have
all had very successful concert videos over the last several years, just
wondering if Landmarq will follow suit in the near future?

Hope to hear some news soon,
