1. LIVE RADIO INTERVIEW
--------------------------------
Landmarq are to appear on UK-based internet/FM radio show 'HawkeFM' on
THURSDAY 10TH JUNE 2004.
The show is part of the music schedule of Harborough FM (95.1), based
in Northamptonshire, England.
HawkeFM is hosted by presenter Terry Hawke and further information can
be found on the relevant websites (see below).
The station, which broadcasts 24/7 over the internet, will also be
broadcasting on 95.1FM (UK frequency) during the month of June.
Terry's shows go out every Thursday night from 10pm til midnight.
Landmarq will be in to talk about their next album, forthcoming gigs
and to give away some goodies in a competition organized by the
station.
Show: 'Hawke Chill-Out Sessions'

2. NEW LIVE UK DATES FOR 2004
--------------------------------
We are pleased to confirm new dates for 2004 including another date
with FOCUS back at Underworld in London. Plus, almost a year to the
day, a return gig at Club Riga in Westcliff. Additional dates will be
announced when confirmed.
SATURDAY 9th OCTOBER - UNDERWORLD, Camden, London (with FOCUS)
SUNDAY 10th OCTOBER - CLUB RIGA, Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex
FRIDAY 12TH NOVEMBER - UPLANDS TAVERN, Swansea
Further details at the Landmarq website:
http://www.landmarq.net/live.htm
--------------------------------
3. TRACY/CLIVE NOLAN TO TOUR WITH JOHN WETTON
--------------------------------
At the time of writing, we have news that Tracy Hitchings will be
teaming up with Clive Nolan (who?!...) to support John Wetton on his
tour later this year. More on this when we have it.
--------------------------------
4. LANDMARQ IN 'ROCK SOCIETY' SCOOP!
--------------------------------
The current issue of the Classic Rock Society magazine (#142, May/June
2004) features various mentions of Landmarq including a review and
some rather nice pics by Robert Allen from the bands recent show in
March with Nik Turner at London's Underworld venue. Sadly, the role of
Landmarq bass player is credited to Pete Gee (of Pendragon) as opposed
to Steve Gee (not of Pendragon). An easy mistake - often made...! ;)

--------------------------------
5. THE SYN - NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED
--------------------------------
The new official website for The Syn is now up and running and
includes a few photos from the recent sessions that included Landmarq
bassist Steve Gee plus other info. Further items will be added in
time. (Note: the above-mentioned CRS magazine also includes an
interview with Pete Banks talking about the new Syn recordings).
http://www.synmusic.net/
--------------------------------
6. GONZALO, THE TULL CONNECTION, AND OTHER STUFF
--------------------------------
Landmarq keyboardist Gonzalo Carrera now figures in the extensive
Jethro Tull family tree, as documented in the book by David Rees,
'Minstrels In The Gallery' (Star Cluster, ISBN 3-925005-60-9), which
chronicles the complete history of Jethro Tull.
Gonzalo's connection is that he played in the band 'Oak', (see his bio
page on the Landmarq website), which was formed by Tull's own drum and
bass, Clive Bunker and Glen Cornick.
Gonzalo can also be seen with his 'other' outfit -- the Anthony
Clayton/Siemy Di Group -- when they make a return appearance at the
Underworld, London, on Sunday 6th June 2004. The band will be
supporting guitarist Jan Akkerman.
Also, Gonzalo would like to announce a series of live dates for his
Supertramp tribute band, 'The Logical Tramps', for later in the year.
For more details go to the bands website:

Greetings,
DOH! We (ok, I) must apologise for an error made in the last mailing.
The date is correct for the Underworld gig but the day should be
THURSDAY and not Tuesday.
Also, apologies for any inconvenience to any webzines, magazines, that
may have announced the incorrect information.
The revised e-news now reads:
-----------------------------------
GREENSLADE / LANDMARQ DATE CHANGE
-----------------------------------
We've had word that The Underworld gig with Greenslade, scheduled for
Sunday 14th March 2004, has been moved to earlier in the preceeding
week.
The revised date is now THURSDAY 11TH MARCH 2004. This has nothing to
do with either Landmarq or Greenslade but has been decided by The
Underworld venue.
We have also been informed that the January 2004 edition of 'Classic
Rock' magazine is running an ad (for The Underworld venue) showing the
Greenslade/Landmarq gig as being held on Sunday 20th March! However,
The Underworld website shows this date will feature Jefferson
Starship.
After checking with the venue, we can confirm that Greenslade and
Landmarq will indeed rock the Underworld on Thursday 11th March.

1. SEASONS GREETINGS
--------------------------------
This may well be the last e-news this year, so we would like to send
all subscribers to the Landmarq E-News List our best wishes for the
season and hope it's a happy and peaceful 2004 for all. And to prove
it....

We can confirm the first gig date for 2004 will be with Greenslade at
The Underworld, Camden, London. This will be on Sunday 14th March.
Further details about this and other dates will be announced as we get

3. LANDMARQ IN HOLLAND
--------------------------------
Landmarq's return to Holland last month was a resounding success both
for the band and for those that made it to the concerts. Thank you for
all the great comments and good wishes that have been emailed to us
and also left in the Guestbook (link below). These have been
consistent throughout Landmarq's gigs in 2003.
http://pub45.bravenet.com/guestbook/show.php?usernum=3833921105
--------------------------------
4. PLATO & ROBIN 2, GIG REVIEWS
--------------------------------
i) Two very nice reviews, one from the UK and one from Holland.
Marcel from German-based website Progpower has informed us of his
review of the Plato gig (Helmond, Netherlands, 31st October 2003). An
extract has been added to the Landmarq website 'Reviews' page and here
are a couple of brief comments:
"...Tracy Hitchings...amazing voice,...really impressed me to hear her
sing live...guitarist Uwe D'Rose...solos gave me goose bumps..."
Read full review at Progpower.de
http://www.progpower.de/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=257
ii) Steve Gould was there to see Landmarq at the Robin 2 venue in
Bilston, England (6th June 2003), and his review can also be seen at
the Landmarq website 'Reviews' page. Steve also sent us his photos
from the gig, some of which have been included in the new Gallery
collection (see below)
http://www.landmarq.net/reviews.htm
--------------------------------
5. 'LIVE 2003' PHOTOS
--------------------------------
The new photo collection, 'Landmarq Live in 2003', is now online.
Pictures have been taken from as many as possible of the various shows
Landmarq played in the UK and Holland, though some gigs are more
represented than others. A number of pics taken at various other
locations on the road and back-stage have been included. We thank
Martin Kessel and Steve Gould for their fine snaps at The Limelight
and The Robin 2, respectively; also Rosie Watson and Henri Strik for
many of the photos in the Dutch section. Thanks also to Boogi,
Annette, Miguel, Mike and others who contributed and apologies if we
forgot anyone.

--------------------------------
6. NEXT ALBUM UPDATE
--------------------------------
With the live dates out of the way for the time being, Landmarq are
now continuing the serious work of writing new material for their next
album, which is scheduled for release in 2004. Anyone who caught the
recent live gigs will have seen the band perform a few new tunes in
their set and judging by the overall reaction and positive comments,
things are looking good.
Among these is 'Thunderstruck', a "10-minute-plus multi-styled opus"
(...er, yeh!) which, as has been previously mentioned, sees the band
returning to their habit of including the title track of a previous
album on it's follow-up.

1. ROCK CAFE 2000 GIG POSTPONED
--------------------------------
Sorry for the short notice to any potential attendees, but we have
just been informed that Landmarq's appearance at the ROCK CAFE 2000,
Stourbridge, on THURSDAY 10TH JULY has been postponed. This is very
much beyond the bands control and we have been informed by the venue
that they hope to re-schedule the date at a later time. We apologise
to anyone who had intended coming along.
Landmarq's gig at 'The Marrs Bar', Worcester, on the following evening
(Friday 11th July) is, of course, still on and we look forward to
seeing old and new friends there. Somewhat closer to home, this
weekend also sees the band debuting at 'The Peel' in
Kingston-on-Thames on Sunday 13th July.

--------------------------------
First of all, a BIG thank you to all who attended the first of
Landmarq's UK 2003 gigs at Club Riga and The Underworld. Reaction at
both gigs was excellent and we look forward to returning later in the
year. In fact, Club Riga have already been in touch and we now have a
second date, Thursday 9th October 2003.
Special thanks must also go to our very special guests Laurent
Hunziker (sax) and Hugh McDowell (cello) whose individual talents and
abilities really shone through and added so much to our music. And
after just one-and-a-half rehearsals, too! Cheers guys.
Three new songs are also being featured in the set, including the
10-minute 'Thunderstruck', a mix of Prog and Jazz. This also sees a
return to the band placing the title track of the previous album on
the following album(!).
[Ok, we know 'Aftershock' was the very last album, but we preferred
the title 'Thunderstruck' in this case. :) ]
The new songs were very well received and should be included on the
next Landmarq studio album.

2. GONZALO TALKS TO JOHN HELLIWELL
------------------------------------
'Breakfast In Spain' is the Spanish fan club website for Supertramp
and they have just published online an interview with the bands sax
player, John Helliwell. So what does this have to do with Landmarq?
Well, not a lot - except that it was our very own Gonzalo Carrera that
had a large hand in posing (and translating) the questions along with
fellow interviewer Miguel Angel Candela.
John did also mention that he may make it along to Landmarq's gig at
The Underworld, Camden, on Sunday 25th May, depending on whether he is
in the country at the time - especially as Landmarq's guest sax
player, Laurent Hunziker, will be playing John's old tenor saxophone,
which Laurent has now acquired. John also hinted that if he does make
it to London on the 25th, he may just bring a sax with him and join
Landmarq on stage for the final number. You'll be most welcome,
John...
The interview with John Helliwell is at:

Another UK date has been confirmed since the previous newsletter

Date: Thursday 10th July 2003
Venue: ROCK CAFE 2000
Address: Block L, Unit 1, 1 Mill Race Lane, Stourbridge, West

2. AUDIO PAGE UPDATED
--------------------------------
For the 2 or 3 people(!) still to be convinced about whether to buy
the latest Landmarq album, 'Aftershock', we now have Mp3's (excerpts)
from each of the six tracks on this live album. In addition, we have
also added Mp3's (excerpts) from the CDs 'Thunderstruck' and 'Science
of Coincidence'. You'll find them all on the website 'Audio' page:
http://www.landmarq.net/audio.htm
--------------------------------
3. LAURENT HUNZIKER CORRECTION
--------------------------------
Saxophonist Laurent Hunziker asked us to let people know his
Supertramp credit is as a guest musician and not as an actual member
of the band. Laurent will be joining Landmarq on selected songs for
their gigs at Club Riga and The Underworld.
Of course, a certain Mr John Helliwell is the actual saxophonist for
this very popular rock combo! (But you already knew that, didn't
you....!?!)
Just to clarify, "...Laurent, who lives in Paris, has worked with many
artists and bands in France (and beyond!) and has also had the
pleasure of working with Supertramp, having joined them for their gig
in Paris in 2002..." (LANDMARQ E-News #50; 29th March 2003).

1. WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS
================================
Firstly, we'd like to welcome the various new subscribers who signed
up since our last newsletter. If you know of anyone else who may be
interested in receiving this newsletter, please pass it on.
Alternatively, you can use the 'Recommend Landmarq' facility on the
website 'Home/Welcome' page.

2. LANDMARQ LIVE
================================
Landmarq's next live date has now been confirmed:
Date: Friday 23rd May 2003
Venue: The Riga Bar (Club Riga)
Address: 228, London Road, Westcliff, SS0 7JG
Phone: (07960) 442331
Web: http://www.rigamusicbar.co.uk
*Look out for further dates in the UK and Europe to be announced soon*
================================
3. REVIEWS
================================
Since it's release last September, we've seen a number of reviews in
print and on-line for Landmarq's latest (live) album, 'Aftershock',
as well as the re-issued earlier albums -- all now on the Cyclops
label, in case you didn't know! ;)
These have been very positive, including Nick Shilton's review in the
latest issue of the UK magazine 'Classic Rock' (Issue #50, Feb 2003).
Nick does pick up on one point, which we fully agree with, right at
the beginning by stating that: "...It's not for want of decent
material that Landmarq have never really escaped prog's minor
leagues; a more likely reason is a shortage of live dates..."
He then goes on to mention the "...strength of the bands four-studio-
album catalogue..." and award a respectable 3/5 stars.
We'd like to say we are very aware of this and would like nothing
more than to be 'out there' touring the world and playing to as many
people as possible. We intend to improve on this situation over the
coming months and beyond.
If you'd like to give us your own comments on this and any reviews
you may have seen, whether you agree or disagree with them, we'd love
to hear from you.
Also -- if you've seen any reviews, etc., on Landmarq you think we
may not have seen, perhaps in a local paper or magazine, please do
drop us a line and let us know. (We won't mind if we happen to have
already seen them).
================================
4. JEANETTE MURPHY
================================
Here's a shameless plug for a good friend of Landmarq. Those of you
who caught the bands show at The Hermit Club (Brentwood, England)
back in March 1999 will remember Jeanette Murphy, who opened for the
band with an all-too-brief acoustic set of her own material.
Jeanette has now released her self-produced second album, 'Sugar and
Spice', which has already begun to attract positive attention,
gleaning a 'Top Demo' placing in the February 2003 edition of 'Sound
on Sound' magazine.
Among the musicians on the album is Landmarq bassist, Steve Gee, who
also backed Jeanette at the albums launch last year at The 12-Bar
Club in London's west end.
For more info on JM: http://www.jeanettemurphy.com/
================================
5. "I'D LIKE TO HEAR..."
================================
Although we are certainly busy writing much new material for the next
album and future live sets, in the last newsletter (#47) we asked
which song you'd like to see/hear Landmarq play from their past
catalogue. One response we had was a very nice letter and a rather
novel 'CD Christmas card' from Didier Gregoire and family from near
Lyon, France. Didier's choice was for "More Flames For The Dancer".
Well, Didier, you never know, "More Flames..." could well end up in
the set. If you have your own ideas, just email us; we'd be
interested to know. And who knows....
================================
6. WEBSITE UPDATES
================================
Gonzalo's pages have been updated. Landmarq's new keyboard player has
managed to drag himself away from his piano and has given us
his 'discography' and also his 'favourites'. There are some
interesting entries so check out the appropriate pages when you can.
We'll have some photos too and, in keeping with the 'Early Pics'
page, Gonzalo has promised to find some pictures from his own early
days.
To add to individual members information (i.e., Discography,
Favourites, Photos), we shall be including a brief biography for each
member. So far, you can read 'individual histories' for Dave, Gonzalo
and Steve. Tracy and Uwe should follow soon.

New keyboard player, Gonzalo Carrera, is settling in very quickly and

there is a wealth of new material the band are working on for their
next album of which Gonzalo will make his own contributions. We are
looking forward to introducing both Gonzalo and more new material in
the new year.

4. MORE PHOTOS FROM HOLLAND
================================
Thanks go to Henri Strik of Dutch magazine 'Background' for sending
us a collection of photos of a Landmarq concert taken back in 1998
at 'Progheaven 98' (Uden, Holland).
Henri also conducted the interview with the band for the same
magazine. A selection of these pics have now been added to the
website Photo Gallery in a new collection.

==================================================
1. KEYBOARD PLAYER GONZALO CARRERA JOINS LANDMARQ
==================================================
Landmarq are pleased to announce the arrival of Gonzalo Carrera
as the band's new keyboard player. For the last three years, Gonzalo
has been the keyboard player for 'Yes' tribute band, 'Fragile'.
(See below for a brief biography on Gonzalo).
Tracy Hitchings: "...As much as we will miss Steve, we knew it was
important to find a replacement as soon as possible but didn't think
we would be fortunate in finding a suitable player so quickly.
We have a great deal to do in bringing Gonzalo 'up to speed' with
both old and new material, but he is raring to go and we're looking
forward to continuing our plans for world domination (haha!)..."
Welcome, Gonzalo!
==================================================
2. SO WHO DOES GONZALO CARRERA THINK HE IS? (apologies to 'Q'
magazine)
==================================================
(Señor) Gonzalo Carrera is from the north-western area of Spain
and has studied jazz and modern harmony. An admirer of classic
progressive band's such as Jethro Tull, Genesis and Yes, he formed
his first band, the award winning 'Madeleine Green'.
In 1992, Gonzalo moved to Madrid and joined established prog band
'Galadriel', with whom he recorded two albums (Musea).
He made the move to the UK in 1996 and played various styles of
music including a stint with soul singer Angie Brown.
Following an approach from Clive Bunker and Glenn Cornick, Gonzalo
joined the ex-Jethro Tull members in their new project called 'Oak'.
The band undertook a tour during 1998, culminating in an appearance
at a Jethro Tull convention in Northern Italy.
On his return to the UK in 1999, Gonzalo met up with ex-Quasar
bassist Keith Turner. Keith had teamed up with ex-Enid band member,
Nick May, and they invited Gonzalo to join them.
However, at the same time he also learned that a 'Yes' tribute band
(Fragile') were looking for a new keyboard player and as a life-long
'Yes fan', Gonzalo joined 'Fragile' for some extensive touring both
in the UK and Europe.
In December 1999, Gonzalo also recorded a CD with drummer Les
Binks (Roger Glover, Judas Priest, Ray Gomez and Steve Lukather). In
fact, Les saw Gonzalo's first gig with 'Fragile' at the Bull's head
in Barnes, west London, and was suitably impressed!
Then in April 2000, Gonzalo was working with Tony Ciniglio (ex-bass
player for 'Cafe Racers', Mark Knopfler). Through Tony, Gonzalo met
Huw Lloyd-Langton, guitarist for Hawkwind, Leo Sayer, Ginger Baker.
Huw invited Gonzalo to join him for his regular Sunday night
residency slot in West Kensington, London.
Further details and a full Gonzalo discography will be added to the
Landmarq website in the very near future.
==================================================
3. WEBSITE UPDATE
==================================================
The website has undergone some minor tweaking and there will also be
the addition of pages for Gonzalo (discography, etc.) over the next
week or so. While we're on the subject, we're always pleased to hear
from anyone with comments, suggestions (polite ones, please!) or
requests relating to the website or Landmarq in general.
==================================================
4. POLL UPDATE
==================================================
Thanks to all those who have so far taken part in the Landmarq Poll
('Do you play an instrument?'...) currently running on the home page.
Results have been rather interesting (though not too unexpected) in
that many of you out there are players in one way or another.
Naturally, guitarists seem to be 'hogging the limelight'!
Now there's a surprise! ;)
Cheers for now,

==================================
LANDMARQ - A CHANGE OF LINE-UP
==================================
Following increasing personal and family commitments,
and therefore unable to support the band in its desire to
increase it's live/touring workload, Steve Leigh has decided
to retire from Landmarq. This reason, coupled with the fact that
he "felt that the band had started to move into a direction that
he could not feel totally at ease with", has brought about his
decision.
It was therefore with sadness, but mutually agreed, that a replacement
should be found.
Although Landmarq have had no less than three changes of vocalist,
this is the first change of a band 'instrumentalist' since the
bands formation in 1990.
Of course, we wish Steve the very best and hope to all keep in
touch - if only to down a few occasional glasses of wine together!
It is hoped a further announcement regarding Steve's replacement
will be made as soon as possible.
Cheers for now,

2. NEW POLL
================================
The latest Landmarq Poll has been posted to the website.
"Do you play a musical instrument?" (This can be at any level -
non-professional, semi-professional, or professional).
Most fans of the band know what the members of Landmarq play,
so now we'd just like to see how many of you also are players.
It's ok, we're just curious and appreciate you don't need to play
an instrument to enjoy music - as many music critics will testify! :)

1. DAVE WAGSTAFFE/OLIVER WAKEMAN
====================================
Landmarq's Dave Wagstaffe has once again been called upon to play
drums
for Oliver Wakeman's new album which should be released later in the
year.
With a more Celtic/Gaelic flavour, the album is entitled "Anamcara".
Featured vocalist is Rachel from the band Common Ground.
(Dave has also recently updated his personal 'Discography' and his
'Favourites' at The Spiral Staircase).
====================================
2. GUESTMAP - NEW WEBSITE FEATURE
====================================
A brand new feature has been added to The Spiral Staircase.
This is a 'GuestMap'. It's similar in principle to the familiar
Guestbooks utilized by many websites, except that it takes the form
of a graphic map of the world.
Visitors can click on the part of the world where they
are from/located and post a message which is then indicated by a
small icon/push-pin. Zoom in on your area to get a more accurate
place for your message. Hover your mouse over an icon to read
the message or click it to open it for more detail.
The GuestMap link is on the 'Home' page (opens in a separate window).
Let us know what you think.

3. NEW POLL - FAVE WEBSITE PAGES
====================================
We have a new poll at The Spiral Staircase:
"Which pages in The Spiral Staircase do you usually visit?"
Home, News, Biography, Discography, Photo Galleries, etc.
The poll is on the website Home page.

====================================
4. PREVIOUS POLL
====================================
No surprise to see in our previous poll ('Which forms of music do
you like to listen to?') that 'Rock' gained the highest percentage
but it was interesting to see the amount of other categories that
were selected -- even if one or two people did vote more than once! :)
'Classical' did pretty well (also maybe not too surprising), but nice
to see 'Jazz', 'Blues' and 'Folk' in the running too.
(You can still view the results in the poll archive in the current
poll results page).

5. WEBSITE ACTIVITY CENTRE
