** RECAP FROM FIRE EATER WIZARD **

On The Metallic Onslaught: Shoebox was finally rested up and recovered
enough from his last visit 7 weeks ago (on May 14th into 15th) to put in
another appearance. Jeffie arrived and seemed glad to se Shoebox. Shoebox,
however, did not reciprocate that feeling...Right away a fight between them
ensued when Jeffie went to hug Shoebox. Then Jeffie said he had a great
magic trick for them all which he had been practicing all week. No one was
very anxious to see it, but, of course, that did not deter Jeffie. He
brought out an orange plush monkey and said he was going to perform some
magic trick on it. He put the monkey into his pants (where most things
around Jeffie end up) and after a bit brought out of his pants according to
Shoebox's description, a bristly multi-colored monkey. It was thought that
that was supposed to have been the trick but judging from Jeffie's reaction
it was apparently not what he had had in mind (or what passes for a mind for
him anyway). He kept asking what had happened to his monkey and what they
had done to it. Who knows what the trick was supposed to have been. Then
Jeffie tried to take Shoebox up the stairs with him, but of course this plan
didn't work out too well for Jeffie as it never does. He, as always, got to
the top of the stairs and then came flying down to the great amusement of
all present except for him. You'd think that it would sink in for even him
eventually that he just can not go up those stairs, but, then again, it is
Jeffie we're talking about here, so maybe it never will after all. Later,
Jeffie had that electronic musical keyboard again and said he was going to
perform a new song.. But when he started playing, it turned out to be just
"Push That Bootie" again (he claimed it was the industrial remix). They
stopped him from performing which he was upset about. Then Lance brought
back Death Metal Karaoke after it's weeks absence. He did a truly marvelous
rendition of Marteka's "Toy Soldiers" :) There were many beat downs and
brawls throughout the whole show. And so that was Shoebox's appearance. Now
we will have to wait another 6 to 8 weeks for him to recover sufficiently
enough from it to pay us another visit.

On The Last Exit: It was rather a quiet show for once after many weeks of a
lot of activity which is nice it's always good to have a change of pace for
variety. And it was, of course, entertaining and funny as always. Just Joe
and Ian were there, and they kept getting into fights with each other.
However, this night Ian managed to remain untraumatized although Just Joe
attempted to traumatize him one last time just before Ian was about to
leave. Just Joe attacked Ian and they had a long noisy brawl. However, when
asked at the end of said brawl if he was traumatized, Ian said no, just in a
lot of pain as Just Joe had hurt his knee. Just Joe kept lobbying to have
Elf played, still as yet unsuccessfully although not for lack of a lot of
effort. And so it was a somewhat quieter night, but there was still quite a
bit of violence, and a lot of silliness and fun as always...

********************************************

Ok, no idea what is going on for sure on either show. Shoebox will not be
at The Metallic Onslaught. Jeffie will as far as I know, and who knows what
he has planned this week. On The Last Exit, it is possible we may celebrate
Take Your Pants for a Walk day this week rather than next, we will see...

As for webpage updates... There is a new review posted, there are all new
character pages, and a brand new Last Exit Poll, which I would really
appreciate everyone going and voting on. It is a poll to tell us what you
like about The Last Exit for the Lost...

Oh, and Jeffie now has a page on MySpace...

JIM TESTA REVIEWS WEFEST 2004 NEWS
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
I forgot to give you guys this link last update
because I'm a worthless miserable wad of rat mucas
on a stick with a light sprinkling of parmesan
cheese and a raisin on top. This is a take on WE
Fest 2004 written by the ultra-supportive ultra-
talented ultra-knowlegable ultra-currently-getting-
his-ass-kissed-by-me-in-this-sentence Jim Testa
of Jersey Beat! So if you couldn't make it to the
WE Festival this year, read this article and you can
close your eyes and just pretend that you're there.

(Well, actually you can't...cuz if you close your
eyes, you won't be able to read the article. And
beyond that, the article isn't really a substitute
for actually attending WE Fest. But it -DOES- have
a very yellow background, and plenty of verbs.)

Wowzers! Razorcake Magazine just gave "Faster Than

can't tell you anything about it because I seem to
have temporarily misplaced my copy! Dammit! And
the aforementioned Jim Testa also said very nice
things about it in the latest issue of the
aforementioned Jersey Beat, including words such as
"I guarantee you'll laugh out loud at a good half
of this, if not more. Shoebox touches on the geek
inside all of us; who hasn't wanted to wipe a booger
on Dan Rather at some point in their lives?"

I like words that are nice to me.

Holy friggin' crap...those of you (I hope there's at

impressed to know that I just managed to get my very
own copy of "Chase the Chuck Wagon" for a DOLLAR.
My gawd, I'm on a high from this...sorry, just had
to get that out.

Anyhoo, it's time to marinate something, and I don't
care what! Hope you guys are all nippletastic...
thanks as always for blindly supporting every stupid

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 7/15/04

SCREWED BY GREED AND THE U.S. LEGAL SYSTEM - BUT WHAT ELSE IS NEW?

I and Alternative Tentacles have thrown up our hands at getting any justice
from the three ex-Dead Kennedys' greed-motivated lawsuits, and the shocking
denial of our appeal. The court refused to hear any evidence of the many
shady things they have done since the trial.

But that does not mean that the verdict and court rulings are the real truth
any more than George Dubya was democratically elected president. They just
got away with a lot of lies. O.J. Simpson would be proud.

What they have done to Dead Kennedys since their hostile takeover speaks for
itself. Their money uber alles mentality has more in common with Dick
Cheney than the vision and principles our band stood for.

I'm as proud of Dead Kennedys as I ever was. It seems obvious I love and
respect what we accomplished far more than they ever will.

If they force me to blow the whistle again, I will. We'll continue to
oppose the dumbing down and pimping of the DK catalogue, phony "reunion"
shows (often with my likeness in the ads), selling my image into video
games, their refusal to show me all the books, blah, blah, etc., etc.

Ending our defense against their main legal attack does not mean I endorse
or recommend any Dead Kennedys releases on Decay Music, Manifesto, Plastic
Head, Cleopatra, MVD, etc.

I can't. I'm too ashamed.

For Immediate Release:

FEAR FACTORY Engulfs America with Trademark Cybernetic Fury on Summer
Headline Tour

Drummer Raymond Herrera-helmed Mischief Invasion Soundtrack In Stores August
8

The pioneering entity known as FEAR FACTORY is on a rampage. Having
completed a spring run on the Jagermeister Tour with Slipknot & Chimaira
(with Hollywood Reporter deeming their set “crushing”) and causing jaws to
drop with their groundbreaking debut release for Liquid 8 Records Archetype,
the band is primed to ignite America on their upcoming headline tour.

Harnessing a style many have emulated but none have duplicated, FEAR FACTORY
’s latest offering, Archetype was received to exceptional sales (moving over
100,000 units and debuting in the Billboard Top 30 Chart), radio success and
critical praise. Computer Games Magazine: Now Playing says, "Fear Factory
is at its productive best." FHM Magazine attests that the return is "Heavier
than ever!" Metal Edge Magazine cites it as "One of the most important
albums of the year." Modern Drummer heralds the album as a “sonically
fearsome return.” And Revolver Magazine calls it "Raw and ripping."

Archetype’s debut video “Cyberwaste” topped the CVC Rock/Alternative Charts
is still in recurrent rotation on Fuse TV’s Uranium and MTV2’s Headbanger’s
Ball programs. FEAR FACTORY recently filmed a video in downtown Los Angeles
for their new single “Archetype” under the direction of Cesario “Block”
Montano and acclaimed film director Michael Alan Kahn, notable for his work
on such films as Die Hard, Die Hard II, Lethal Weapon 2 & 3, and Se7en. The
radio single for the track is currently charting at Active Rock.

Now, the band is ready to take their inimitable technically-proficient
presence to the next level with a full headline tour (with Sworn Enemy and
Mastodon in support), which kicks off July 25th at the Hellfest Festival in
New Jersey. Drummer & videogame guru Raymond Herrera is visibly excited
about the prospect: “The Jagermeister tour was amazing; we had a great time
with the Slipknot and Chimaira guys. Now, on our headlining tour, fans will
get to see the full Fear Factory experience.”

When not shredding stages with his inhuman drumming technique, Herrera also
supplies music & sound effects to films & videogames via his own company
Herrera Productions. His latest project is conceiving the soundtrack to
Mischief Invasion, the fourth entry in the popular Mischief ‘reality’ street
racing film series in conjunction with Techademics Films and Liquid 8
Records. The soundtrack will be released on August 8th. FEAR FACTORY is no
stranger to the world of film soundtracks, as the band’s music has been
featured on such blockbuster hits as Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Freddy
Vs. Jason, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Herrera approached Teckademics to
create a soundtrack for Mischief Invasion, as he was awestruck by the wild
antics contained in the film. Likening the movie to “the Cannonball Run of
2004,” Herrera was immediately inspired and collected an assortment of
cutting edge and innovative artists to compose full-throttle material for
the soundtrack; some of whom whose work had previously appeared on the
Emmy-winning series Sex In The City and the films XXX and National Security.
Herrera and FEAR FACTORY guitarist Christian Olde-Wolbers also composed four
tracks for the release; in addition to including a new remix of the band’s
latest single “Archetype”.

Herrera Productions brings a wealth of experience to capturing the road
raging energy of racing, having provided music and effects for such
videogames as Carmageddon (for PC), Test Drive 5 & 6 (for PC, PlayStation, &
Dreamcast), Demolition Racer (for PlayStation), Test Drive Off Road Wide
Open (for PS2 & Xbox), RalliSport Challenge (for Xbox), and the forthcoming
games Test Drive Crosstown (for PS2) and Gran Turismo 4 (for PS2, PC, Game
Cube & Xbox). On Thursday, July 15th, the Half-Life Radio Show on the
GameShout Radio Network is airing for a two-hour FEAR FACTORY special and
interviewing live with Herrera to discuss the band’s innovation and
evolution.

BIG MONEY STILL BUYING TIME ON RADIO:
This is a very good read indeed and those interested in the music industry
and how some parts of it work, should definitely read through this.
Disappointing, but not surprising. This is just one of the reasons the music
you want to hear isn't on the radio...

From the New Yorker magazine, by James Surowiecki.
Pop music thrives on repetition. You know a song's a hit when you've heard
it so often that you'll be happy never to hear it again. Even by Top 40
standards, though, the playlist adopted a few weeks ago by the Nashville
radio station WQZQ was extreme. On May 23rd, Billboard reported, the station
played Don't Tell Me, the new single by Avril Lavigne, three times an hour,
every hour, between midnight and 6 a.m. This didn't have much to do with the
tastes of WQZQ's d.j.s or listeners. Instead, an independent promoter
working for Lavigne's record label had effectively paid the station to play
the song. "Don't Tell Me" had been hovering just outside Billboard's list of
the country's ten most frequently played songs, which radio programmers use
to decide what singles get airtime. The extra spins the promoter
bought—sometimes called "spot buys," because what's really being bought are
blocks of ad time, as with an infomercial—were meant to bump "Don't Tell Me"
up the list. By early June, Lavigne had a Top 10 hit.
She also had a lot of angry music fans to contend with. Spot buys may be
legal, but to most people they're the "new payola," a modern-day equivalent
of Alan Freed's taking money under the table to play rock-and-roll records.
(Freed called the payments "consulting fees.") It's an obvious comparison,
but a misplaced one. Spot buys aren't the same as old-fashioned payola.
They're worse.
"Payola" became a household word in the fifties, when a host of d.j.s were
found to be playing songs in exchange for favors and money, but the practice
is as old as pop music itself. A century ago, songwriters routinely paid
vaudeville singers to perform their tunes, hoping to goose demand for sheet
music. In the thirties, music publishers paid off radio bandleaders. And
although some forms of payola were outlawed after the mid-century scandals,
various loopholes allowed other incarnations to thrive, under the guise of
independent promotion. With money from the record companies, promoters used
oblique tactics—subsidies, gifts, "research funds"—to encourage radio
stations to add new singles to their playlists. By 2000, tens of millions of
dollars a year were being spent on what you might call legal payola, and
although bad publicity has severely curtailed the promotion business, paying
to play is still integral to the way radio works.
Despite its sleazy reputation, payola has a certain rationale. In a typical
year, upward of seven or eight hundred CDs are issued each week. Not even
the most dedicated program director can hope to sift through all the new
songs. So stations need a way to filter the possible hits from the certain
bombs. Pay-for-play schemes provide one rough-and-ready way to do this,
because they involve what economists call signalling. By putting money
behind a record, a label signals its belief that the record has a chance to
be a hit; no company will spend a lot of money trying to sell something it
doesn't have high hopes for. And hits, of course, are the only thing that
radio cares about.
You can see the same process at work in many other businesses, too.
Supermarkets and drugstores accept billions of dollars a year in "slotting
fees" to position products at the end of an aisle or at eye level. Book
chains sell space on the tables at the front of their stores. And record
stores accept advertising dollars from labels to push certain albums. Here,
too, being willing to shell out for a good space on the shelf is a statement
about how much you think people will want your product.
This is, at best, a flawed way to find hits. Unless a record label has a
good sense of what people want to hear, it could be buying airtime for
flops. And labels that don't have the cash to promote their records are out
of luck. But the surprising truth is that, historically speaking, payola has
often fostered musical diversity, rather than squelching it. In the fifties,
the music industry was dominated by a few giant labels, much as it is today;
because of payola (and payola-takers, like Alan Freed), the smaller labels
that revolutionized the industry—including Atlantic, Chess, and King
Records—were able to get their music on the air. In retail, too, paying for
space hasn't necessarily hindered innovation. Even as slotting fees have
become more common in supermarkets, for instance, the number of new products
that reach the shelves each year has exploded. And the same is true with
books. We tend to assume that payola favors the big players because they are
the ones with the big money. But the big players also have big sales forces,
big brand names, and big connections. They'd win without having to ante up
to get in on the action. Paying to play, then, creates a rough marketplace
democracy: if you can come up with the cash, you get a shot. But that's all.
Labels can buy themselves exposure; they can't buy themselves a hit. If
people don't want to hear a record, radio stations won't keep playing it of
their own accord.
And that's where spot buys come in. Unlike conventional pay-for-play deals,
spot buys like the one that propelled Avril Lavigne into the Top 10 aren't
meant to introduce listeners to songs; they're meant to game the playlist
system. It's a salient feature of modern media that being thought to be
popular can make you more popular. Best-selling books and records are
discounted more than slow-selling ones and are positioned more prominently.
Songs in Billboard's Top 10 automatically end up being spun more. And if you
invest lots of money in creating an illusion of popularity—by, say, buying
hours of airplay on the radio—you may end up making yourself more popular.
In the process, what real listeners want matters less than it ever did. In
"Payola Blues," Neil Young sang to Alan Freed, "The things they're doing
today / Will make a saint out of you." He didn't know the half of it.
— James Surowiecki.

TOP STORIES OF THE WEEK

---------------- Only The Bare Essentials ------------------

OSLO, Norway - If you're trying to impress a woman, getting
stuck stark naked probably isn't the best way to go about it.
Emergency crews had to free a drunken Swede who got himself
trapped under a gate with no clothes on in downtown Oslo. He
told officers he tried to visit a woman at her apartment
house early Monday morning. When she wouldn't let him in, he
turned to leave, but found the gate leading to the street
was locked. Thinking he could squeeze underneath if he took
off his clothes, he stripped down and attempted to maneuver,
only to get stuck for about four hours. Fire crews used a
hydraulic lift to jack up the gate and free the man. The man
said that at least the object of his affections was a real
stunner. Well, then I guess that makes it worth all the
trouble...

------------------ A Voice From Beyond ---------------------

BURLINGAME, Calif. - Application for a U.S. patent has been
filed by a California man for his system that allows the
dead to speak from their tombs, New Scientist reported
Thursday. Robert Barrows of Burlingame has devised a hollow
headstone fitted with a flat LCD touch screen. It also
houses a computer with a hard disc or microchip memory that
allows the deceased to speak from the grave through a video
message. The tombstone would draw its electricity from the
cemetery's lighting system, and as a civil touch, comes with
wireless headphones so as not to disturb others. If his
patent is granted, Barrows says he would encourage people
to leave a parting video with their lawyer when making out a
will. Gary Collison, professor of American studies at
Pennsylvania State University in Pittsburgh, thinks video
tombstones are a natural progression from outsize monumental
stonework. "Cemeteries are places where people try to outdo
each other," he said. "This would certainly be a new way to
do that."

* After 13 wrongful years in prison and five more detained as a
"violent sexual predator," James Rodriguez, 43, finally realized
last year that he would have to start lying and "confess" to
molesting those two boys in the 1980s and seek "rehabilitation."
Otherwise, California's Atascadero State Hospital would never
release him. He told an Associated Press reporter that he sought
advice from the hospital's pedophiles on what to say and how to
act, and he finally convinced doctors that he was, indeed, so very
remorseful for his "attraction to kids." Then, as he was set for a
hearing in April, his two "victims" finally recanted, telling officials
that they had made up the whole thing.

* George Stanichuk, trying to convince a Boston Herald reporter in
March of his innocence in his girlfriend's disappearance, insisted
that the woman's having previously gotten a restraining order
against him was not telltale evidence: In fact, he said, "every girl
I've gone out with has put a restraining order against me." And in
New Port Richey, Fla., in February, Robert Scott Schwartz,
representing himself in a domestic violence hearing, admitted that
he had beat his girlfriend for "a few minutes," slammed her head
into the stove, pulled her hair, and stuck his thumbs into her eye
sockets but nonetheless turned to her in the courtroom and said,
"I'm willing to overlook a lot of things if you can just get along
with me."

FALLEN HOPES: A man in Chongqing, China tried to escape from his apartment
by jumping out of the window holding an umbrella, a system that always
worked for that bourgeois waiguoren (foreigner) Mary Poppins. The
reason he felt he had to jump (the report didn't say from which floor)
was that he had a feeling his microwave oven might explode. The
umbrella trick didn't work--he crashed to the ground and broke both
legs, according to the West China City News. I anticipate his taking a
lawsuit against Ms. Poppins, Walt Disney or Western civilization as a
whole.

FROG IN HIS THROAT: A man named Chen in Hunan province, China had a pain
in his neck. An alternative-medicine guru prescribed eating raw frogs
six times a day. Chen obediently started gulping them down, and had
munched his way through 130 before he collapsed. Doctors found his
body riddled with frog parasites and Chen is now suing his guru. What
I can't understand is why anyone would think that having a pain in the
neck could possibly be worse than having to eat 130 frogs.
