It's been forever since I've seen a concert report here...

Last night Loudon played the Lecture Hall at CW Post College, as part
of a performance series aimed at subscribers to Tilles Center events -
Tilles seats about 2000, the Lecture Hall about 250 or 300.

CW Post is my alma mater (and my wife's), so it was a treat to see
Loudon there - he never performed there while we were students back in
the mid-late 70's. There are some other ironies I'll get to later.

Because of the subscribership, the audience was much older than a
typical Loudo crowd, and clearly not familiar with his music, except
for a few dozen (from what I could tell) of the faithful, shouting out
requests and such. He won everybody over by the end of the night - the
back to back sing alongs of Unrequited and The Doctor helped a lot.

Here's the setlist:

My Old Dog
Heaven
Missing You
What Was I Afraid Of (World Premiere, on Uke)
Tonya's Twirls
A Year
A Guilty Conscience And a Broken Heart
Doing The Math
The Picture
A Silly Impractical Word
Unrequited to the Nth Degree
The Doctor
Grey In L.A. (with Lucy Roche)
Here Come the Choppers
Hank and Fred
I'd Rather Be Lonely
Puppy Hate
White Winos

Encore:
At The End of A Long Lonely Day (with Suzzy Roche)
Ukelele

The ironies I spoke of earlier: I just saw the Roches (with Loudon and
Lucy as special guests) at Town Hall in NYC, and remarked to them
after the show that the last time I saw the Roches as a trio was at
the Tilles Center at CW Post, as a double bill with Loudon, probably
15 years ago. Also, the last time I saw Loudon, back in June at Joe's
Pub in NY, Lucy and Suzzy were guests as well.

I'm still waiting for the ultimate extended
Wainwright/Roche/McGarrigle family show (with Dan Bern as an uninvited
guest - he was involved with Martha for a very short time).

This ends a remarkable run of concerts over the past few months: Bruce
(several times), Richard Thompson (twice), Roches, Loudon - all of
them among my favorite performers. Next up is Billy Joel at MSG - I've
never seen him, going primarily because my 16 year old daughter wanted
to. After that the concert slate is empty, and my recording rig will
sit unused until the next time. But it's been a great run while it lasted!

Scott
