The 2nd Annual NEAR EAST MUSICAL SALON CONCERT SERIES :
• January 11 at 2 pm: ROBAYAT - Persian traditional and folk music
ROBAYAT, formed in 1989 by vocalist, and Iranian native, Maryam
Yusefzadeh, performs the indigenous music of Persia, Turkey and Central
Asia. Robayat employs music as the introduction to culture, history,
geography and further understanding of the people. Robayat has performed
at numerous venues throughout the Upper Midwest, including Orchestra Hall, =
the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Northrup Auditorium, MacNider Museum
(Iowa), Winona State University, the Minnesota Historical Society, Minnesot=
a
Public Radio's "The Morning Show", the Renaissance Festival, and many
galleries, churches, schools, educational organizations, and private
celebrations as well. Robayat, winner of the1992 Minnesota Music Awards
as the best Middle Eastern Band, released a compact disc called "Music of
the Heart" in 1998. Joining Yusefzadeh are Tim O'Keefe on Percussion and
Ud, violinist David Stenshoel and David Burk on Ud, Chumbush, Saz and
Guitar.
