About the event:
A rare opportunity in the Twin Cities to listen to the majestic, poetic drumming
of Ustad Shabbir Nisar, one of the greatest practitioners of the art of Tabla
Solo, also the son and disciple of the legendary Tabla Nawaaz, the late Ustad
Shaik Dawood Khan of Hyderabad.
Ustad Shabbir Nisar will be presenting a full-length traditional Tabla Solo
recital drawing from his vast repertoire of Tabla compositions, ranging from the
sublimely lyrical, to the mathematically complex, to the thunderously powerful.
Sri. Arun Bagal, a long-time disciple of Maestro Pandit Vijay Raghava Rao, will
provide Harmonium accompaniment to Ustad Shabbir Nisar's Tabla solo.
In the second half of the evening, Sri Arun Bagal will present a Hindustani
Violin recital.
This concert will be presented in the intimate setting of a traditional Indian
“Baithak”, where the warmth and aura of the music will be up close and
immediate.
FREE Indian snacks and wine/soft drinks will be served during the intermission.
There will be limited number of chairs at the back of the studio for our senior
patrons or anyone else needing them. Please arrive on time. Seating is limited
for this event as the studio accomodates only 80 people. Advance ticket purchase
is advised.
