For your reference, here is IMSOM’s Spring 2006 Concert schedule, at a glance:
I. MARCH 25 (Saturday) - Tejendra Narayan Majumdar (Sarod) - Currently
India’s finest Sarod player! Recital Hall, College of St. Catherine, St. Paul;
7:30 p.m.
II. APRIL 15 (Saturday) - Subhra Guha (Hindustani Vocal) – Fine classical
vocalist who also renders semi-classical fare with flair! Venue and Time TBD.
III. APRIL 28 (Friday) – U Srinivas – (Carnatic Mandolin) – The Mandolin
wizard of the “Shakti” fame! He returns to the Twin Cities in a solo format
after 13 years. The OEC Auditorium, University of St. Thomas, St. Paul; 8:00
p.m.
IV. MAY 15 (Monday) – Zakir Hussain presents Masters of Percussion – One of
the pioneers of the world music movement, the Tabla magician Ustad Zakir Hussian
brings a star studded ensemble to MN for a percussion extravaganza that includes
the fabulous dancing drummers of the Manipuri Jagoi Marup! Orchestra Hall,
Minneapolis; 7:30 p.m.
V. JUNE 3 (Saturday) – Nayan Ghosh – One of India’s rarest artists, considered
a maestro of both Sitar AND Tabla. Nayan Ghosh will present a Sitar recital as
well as a Tabla solo in this concert! Venue and Time TBD.
VI. JUNE 24 (Saturday) – Mysore Brothers (Carnatic Violin Duet) – one of the
finest duos in Carnatic music – they return to the Twin Cities after 9 years!
