Intensive Arabic Music Workshop for Musicians with Simon Shaheen
Saturday, February 24
11 am – 4 pm (lunch break from 1-2 pm)
Wisconsin Studio, OCA


Simon Shaheen's intensive 4-hour workshop on Arabic music will include
instruction and interactive activities focusing on Arabic musical
modes (maqamat) and rhythmic patterns (iqat) with practical ear
training and discussion of key elements of Arabic music performance
such as musical communication, dynamics, style, improvisation and
interpretation. Participants can bring appropriate instruments like
ouds, flutes, violins and percussion or they can just come without
instruments and participate through singing or clapping. Mr. Shaheen
will also do some performance with the participants.
