Join vocalist David Jordan Harris (Artistic Director of Voices of
Sepharad) and Egyptian violinist Salah Abdel Fattah as they team up to
present"Beyond the Wall: Shared Musical Traditions in the Middle
East," a rich feast of music from Iraq, Morocco, Turkey, Palestine,
and modern day Israel for 'ud, voice, and violin.

The performances will take place on
Saturday, August 25, 8:15 PM and 9:15 PM
in the Form + Content Gallery
(210 North 2nd Street, Suite 104, Minneapolis).

The performances are hosted by the gallery in honor of Dialogue on the
Wall, an installation exploring the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
"Beyond the Wall" draws on traditions and musical vocabularies shared
by Muslims, Christians, and Jews whose lives have been musically
entwined for hundreds of years in the neighborhoods of North Africa
and the Middle East. You won't want to miss this evening, as David and
Salah celebrate the power of music to create a bridge of respect and
celebration in a world tainted by despair.

Dialogue on the Wall was conceived and created by Jay Isenberg and
Lynda Monick-Isenberg. The work is an architectural
installation incorporating multi-media and performance elements
while exploring the issues and competing narratives of the
Israeli/Palestinian conflict. The centerpiece of the installation is a
10 foot high concrete-like wall built inside the gallery.
Representing a portion of the controversial "Separation Wall" between
Israel and the West Bank/Palestine/Occupied territories, this wall
dramatically separates the gallery into two spaces, which are used for
display, presentation, and performance. The installation is intended
to question ideologies, challenge preconceptions, provoke thought and
conversation and to demonstrate in a personal manner the nature of
this intractable conflict. By hearing the voice and giving credence
to the narrative and reality of the "other," there is hope for small
steps toward reconciliation.

The installation is on view August 16 through September 15. Gallery
hours are Thursday through Saturday, Noon- 6 PM and by appointment.
Visit www.formandcontent.org for more information on special
programming during the run of the exhibit.
