(apologies for crossposting)
We find ourselves in dark and troubled times. The spectres of war, tyranny,
and environmental devastation hang over our heads like rotten eggs. It's too
cold outside. Levis has discontinued black 517's. And a million other
things, some too awful to mention. In spite of all this, or, quite possibly,
because of all this, we at Dewberry Fields Intergalactic and House of
Miracles joyfully present installment number three of Cumulus: Sonic
Adventures in Straddling the Stratosphere on Thursday, November 7. While
the pampered lapdogs of the ruling elite cool their Gucci-clad heels (not
even hip enough for Prada are they!) to the saccharine strains of halfassed
house music at Lurcat, Martini Blu, and the six dozen or so other "upscale"
nightspots that seems to have sprouted up like expensive weeds around town
lately, we'll be picking our heels up for the short march to the decidedly
downscale Dinkytowner, a room whose, plush seating options,
reasonably-priced potables, and comfortable bunker-like ambience suit us
just fine. Below, you'll find the musical bill of fare for this installment
(curated by none other than the woman who put the c-u-m in Cumulus, the
inimitable Dewberry herself). It promises to be a bit warmer (dare we say
incendiary, even) than past offerings. We confess. We did it on purpose.
Enemy of the People
Whether you call it digital hardcore or hardcore rendered digitally, Enemy
of the People's sonic Molotovs have been turning heads (in some cases, 360
degrees) for quite some time now. We are honored.
Cepia
In a few short months, Huntly Miller (aka Cepia), our Dinkytowner host and a
Cumulus regular, has established himself as the city's foremost
laptop-intensive sound artist. Welcome back.
Lost in Translation
Lost in Translation's output ranges from elegantly explosive breakcore to
richly textured soundscapes. Whatever he does will be OK by us.
Pegpaw
Aka Saint Cloud's own Mat Sanbourne, a highly regarded generalist dj with
welcomely aggressive tendencies, makes his first Minneapolis appearance
tonight. We're delighted to have him.
Tapedeck
Those who have experienced Nick Phillips, aka Tapedeck, before know that
they'll find themselves in some real deep sonic shit in no time. That's why
they keep coming back.
Andy Boes
Given his encyclopedic knowledge of all kinds of electronica (not to mention
his exquisite tastes), Mr. Boes's dj appearances are all too rare. Catch him
while you can.
Jar
According to his bio, what Jacob Roske, aka Jar, does is "induce and dispurt
frequencies layered with analog tape =indeterminate music." The time we saw
him, he did some really cool stuff with radios and disposable cameras.
Jerome Reading
Mr. Reading will open the night gently with a cuddly procession of abstract
grooves. Arrive early.
