Hi there.
One topic that interests me a lot these days is the making of
arrangements and transcriptions of non-classical music, to be
played by Classically-trainded musicians on accoustic instruments
in a concert setting.
I can share some experiences with fellow coposer-arrangers.

Hi Brian,
Well of course period instruments on their own do not guarantee a great
performance, but the only recordings of Beethoven and Handel I consider these
days are with period instruments. There are many examples of such performances
you can hear at my site if you have a look (and traditional performances too). I
especially like Beethoven played on the fortepiano. Feel free to join up and you
will be able to hear a lot more...

I sort of grew up with Beethoven, so he was my first great musical hero.
As for authentic instruments, that might just be the key phrase to start
everyone here fighting again. ;-)
I rather like 'authentic' performances. They often give one a very new view
on even the most well-known pieces, and one wonders what Handel and
Beethoven might have made of more 'modern' performances. Personally, my
tastes are eclectic; I like modern and 'authentic' performances about
equally well, as long as they are well done.

The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields had plenty before Tuesday's
downbeat in Jones Hall. First, Murray Perahia, the announced conductor
and piano soloist, withdrew from the 11-city tour after his doctors
recommended extended rest to recover from a skin infection. Then his
replacement, Sir Neville Marriner, who founded the Academy in 1959,
stabbed his left hand with his baton during Tuesday's rehearsal
onstage.
